Ithaca Greece - Vathy 1980s

Ithaca Greece's main port of Vathy in the 1980s - we come in on a Ferry from Patra and then travel out of Vathy on the daily Kioni-Vathy commuter boat that used to be run by Captain Tsiblas - 'Ag. Gerasimos'. He used to leave Kioni about 8am - and depart Vathy late afternoon after catching the Patra ferry in and out, and giving his Kioni passengers a whole day to do their shopping and take care of business in Vathy or join the Patra ferry. This is exactly what the villages of Kioni, Frikes and Northern areas need now - a commuter boat service to and from Vathy, that eliminates the death-defying road trip. I am sure that an enterprising local could make a thriving business from this idea.

I went a couple of times to ithaka in the late 70's and 80's (and later on as well), it reminds me such good moments, thanks a lot

A really nice find on a particularly bad day in the office. A lot of fond memories of summers in the late 70s and early 80s -- the plateia before its "renovation"!

cool video indeed, but of course you realize that the "death defying trip" stuff is a load of crap. I am sure it's been since you made this video that you are not coming back to Ithaca, because you would have noticed that since then the road is very well paved and has a guard rail in its entireity. Nice memories for the older, but don't speak bad about my homeland.
