Just replace Erdogan with Modi and you get a correct analysis of the politics in India. I’m honestly terrified how similar these new wave of nationalist leaders are across the world. It is as if they rose to power in response to decades of neoliberal globalisation.
Edit: For those who think that erdogan is not a nationalist, I went ahead and 16 speeches of his that I could find online. He definitely uses nationalist rhetoric. Giving in to western organisations does not mean one cannot be nationalist. I’m open to changing my mind tho.

From what I understand Erdogan and the AKP only have still close to 50 % of the vote because of the turks living in Germany. Those are allowed to vote in national elections but I guess not in regional ones (or they simply don't). The turks in Germany are famously super reactionary: their mosques are run by ditib, a very pro AKP institution. These turkish people don't directly feel the catastrophic economy - or even enjoy the inflation since it makes it easier for them to buy houses and appartments for their retirement or their holiday with their Euros.
There is a meme for many years now: "Ask a turkish nationalist anything" "okay, how is life in Berlin?"

@@baranbeytemur5451my guy my dude, there are 1.5 million turkish voters living in Germany. Erdogan literally did some of his biggest election speeches here. Erdogan had 2.3 mio more votes in the popular vote in the 2023 presidential election. It does not account alone for the outcome, but they are clearly a major strategic voter bloc, with more voters than Izmir, Turkeys third biggest city.
Also it is specific for the German turkish diaspora that they vote for Erdogan. In the other big diasporas, like in the UK and the US (both together are smaller than the German diaspora on its own, tho), Erdogan only gets like 20% of the vote.

The simplest way to understand the picture in Turkey is to accept that Erdog is the imperial lapdog, installed through buying and cheating votes of the pious brigade. He has received a constant 52-56% since he spontaneously created the AKP party in 2001 and won a landslide in 2002. Since then he's torn up the anti-imperial constitution and solidified his imperial lapdog grip.
Hasan is saying when he goes, he will go back to Turkey and visit places like Istanbul, Izmir Adana etc...
It is important to separate what Erdog says to what he DOES.
You can read translated articles " MiT Tirlari" Buyuk Ortadogu Proje Es Baskani" " Ustun Yahudi Madalya Odulu"
Continuing our critical thinking we must state that Hasan's objective criticism stops short when it comes to Ukraine where he choses NOT to see the truth. He knows all about the Zelensky regime and the Bandera connection but he acts like Vladimir is worse than Volodymyr. Hasan usually speaks critical truth but throws in some bulsht in there.
His Turkey and Middle East critisicms are on point but I question how he can see the truth there but is on the take when it comes to Russia Ukraine

Turkish secular nationalists doesn't like that. Remember, they are secular and non-religious, and they hate Erdoğan and Islamization of Turkey. to be fair the true "western anti-imperialists" are kemalists you probably don't like either. In the March 31 memorandum (for Americans who don't know, Turkey did not allow America to enter Iraq through Turkey), they purged the army members who did not allow Turkey to be used for America's imperial ambitions, one by one, with FETO (Gulenists). This is why the Ergenekon and Balyoz cases took place. CHP is no longer a party in line with the army as it used to be, but I still do not equate it with AKP regarding western imperialism.

13:00 Erdogan doesn’t get to bomb Syria on an American go ahead. The US vaguely supported Kurdistan independence in Iraq & Syria & this concerned Turkey since they have a Kurdish majority south east. Turkey started incursions into Syria to create a boundary between them & this Kurdish state, the US didn’t totally support this but also understood Turkey is a more valuable ally than a hypothetical Kurdistan so they don’t say much of anything about it. The only time Erdogan is against western imperialism is when it interferes with Turkish imperialism. So as long as the west is willing to make concessions to align their imperial ambitions with Turkey’s, or at the very least willing to concede some of their ambitions near Turkey’s borders Turkey will remain pro western imperialism.

I mean why did America supported a coup d'etat attempt in Turkey if it was a lapdog? Why did Turkey rejected American demands of stopping the opium production during 1970s when drug usage in American military in Vietnam was very high or why did Turkey reject Memorandum of 1 March 2003 and didnt allow US to use airports in Turkey during Iraqi War? I mean idk i feel like if it was an American vassal it'd be more loyal lol.

I agree that the YPG got too greedy but I still don’t see how that goes against my thesis, but if you’re main point is that I simplified the reason why Turkey cares about the YPG then I agree, obviously it’s not just because Turkey has Kurds in its south east
