And THIS is what I always presumed the new status effects are meant to work, they stack up and cause the direct damage to be buffed. So build wise you should go for the most direct damage possible, particularly high critical. It will probably be an alternative to Corrosive Heat builds. And don't forget the Epitaph can proc cold directly, plus the best Sentry Gun is a Cold weapon(iirc).
This video single handedly made me wanted to get the Incarnon Boltor and give it a Corrosive build. So much so that I prioritized it over the Lex Incarnon.
I mean frankly, the problem with Warframe is that what's considered the "endgame" "benchmark" is reaching Lv. 9999 in endurance modes. That's not endgame, that's just something you do for fun to push the mob mechanics to their limit. What endgame *actually* is is some form of raid or high-end instance, either solo or in groups, that provide a proper challenge for everything you've learned and earned up to what the game considers the peak of power at the time. The game _did_ have a good prototype of this in Trials, but DE keeps upping the power scale while refusing to implement something that asks the player to push themselves, so the game remains a sandbox and going to level cap is really all the game has going for some form of endgame. This is all a long, roundabout way of saying your method of playing is just fine. In an ideal world, ~Lv. 500-1000 range would be comparable to whatever Warframe actually does to show you've reached peak performance, so to speak. Once you have everything you want, the sandbox format eventually feels like an aimless hamster wheel and only madlad completionists really get something out of continued play.
interesting. im such a lazy sack of sht that i didn't bother to change any of my mod setups or experiment with anything, but it's good to know that these status effects aren't objectively weak now. i also heard that there's a frost rework incoming...? maybe frost's new kit will have something to do with crit, or he might just proc so many cold procs that using heavy crit weapons on him is optimal.
ya the changes to puncture and cold are more so additive to what we already have and gives reason to use them other then just a what ever status to stack condition overload but a consideration of the different status would be more benificial to the individual weapon. got a weapon that ends up 50-90% crit chance, get puncture procs(even off weapon) to make it more consistance since adding another crit chance at that low of crit rate isnt that effective. the cold one though, this one doesnt feel like it makes break points but just 10%-20% dmg increase, its not unwelcome, but also not must go for
I already had a few weapons built for Cold-crits (fun name i gave them, hah) if I felt like it - Tenet Diplos, I've actually used a Corrosive-Cold build this whole time. Even before the Incarnon changes, I used Cold too, because the damage bonus against Grineer AND Corpus was very effective in my eyes. This update has just made me even stronger.
as a fellow solo player who plays for fun rather than results, my personal methodology is heat+viral for grineer, magnetic+toxin for corpus, electric+gas for infested, and radiation+cold for orokin and sentients. as far as elements i add thru modding goes. if weapons can have innate exta elememnts, then the more the merrier. for weapons where i can choose what that innate element is, such as kuva or tenet weapons, i tend to prefer radiation, because every bullet the enemy wastes fighting each other is a bullet not fired at me. if it already has radiation anyways like the nukor, then my fallback is either magnetic or impact, depending on whether or not it already has impact or slash. as for my sentinel, i prettymuch always and only go with corrosive and blast, as those two do not fit with the 4 pairings i put with my main weapons. some weapons have innate viral or corrosive and allow be to stack them both on the same weapon, and it is super chunky when i can, but most weapons dont allow such a combo without an additional weapon, so the corrosive goes to the floaty bois while the main gun gets the viral or whatever im using at the moment. also kinda off topic but i always leave the default config A completely unmodded so that when i switch weapons it starts with the stock stats and then when i switch to B or C+ to equip my mods i can see the stat change markers to show how the mods affect the stats.
im with you on the meta status stuff, while i do build for viral/slash i much prefer just doing damage as it doesnt feel fun just staring at a heavy gunner hoping my slash procs are good enough to kill them through their armour when instead i can just use frost avalanche and now my entire aresenal is viable
i just hope they adress armor soon. because it's all fun and good to get better status, but not having the things that caused the meta to remain stagnant for years is healtier for the game.
I actually was messing with corrosive and cold builds on secondaries and it has been quite fun, especially with some of the arcanes. I haven't messed with it quite yet but I have heard the battacor is quite great with a corrosive cold build too
Why the hell were people saying not to build the Tigris Prime for slash and viral when it came out? Its status chance at launch was high enough that you could hit 100% status chance before multishot with four dual-stats. In the old shotgun status system, this meant that every pellet would proc status. This, combined with its massive and heavily slash-weighted base damage, and mediocre crit stats, meant that the most logical way to build it was to try and force a slash proc on every pellet. IIRC my Tigris Prime is still built this way, with Primed Point Blank, Hell’s Chamber, Fanged Fusilade, a flex slot, and 4 dual-stats for my target faction (radiation+viral for Grineer, magnetic+gas for Corpus, and corrosive+blast for infested and corrupted).
Im still one of those sticklers that puts gas / electric on half of my builds. its not as good as it used to be, but so long as you strip armor it does pretty well
The Cold and Puncture Buffs really breathed new life in some older underperforming Weapons for me. I'm not sure if I'll be frequently Modding for Cold and if ever for Puncture, but the Buffs are good regardless. My only issue is that when running Corrosive Cold Puncture, I have *no* DoTs and I miss being able to look away from the Enemy who's got less than 10% eHP left, knowing that they will DoT to death.
Im loving the new corrosive cold things, though for the boltor i think shred is going to perform better than a base fire rate, as it it will help with hordes of enemies so much (also firing through obstacles is fun as hell) Additionally, because youre no longer relying on status procs for the majority of your damage, just armour strip and crit boost, why not swap out the cold 7 mod for the primed pure cold damage mod?
I've been thinking about doing this lol, I basically don't stop shooting at an enemy until they are dead anyways. Viral and Slash always felt like wet noodles to me :\
The new Puncture procs are cool, cuz you get a free 25% absolute crit chance at max stacks, which is pretty good, but the new cold procs are still pretty meh. Its only a +0.5 absolute crit damage, which is pretty much worthless.
Incarnon series 1 got hit the hardest with the new status update. Not something to worry about but like a 5-10 % decrease to damage can trigger anybody. Feels like felarx can’t one shot unless properly set up now. (Specific bosses) It doesn’t feel like a casual gun to run around with one shoting things. Laetum is still fine while phenmor ate the most shit.
I think the main thing youre ignoring here is status primers. Now not only are they useful for CO, but the actual status effects make it even more of a damage increase, even if you dont have a CO mod on
Im LR3, have over 5k hours in this game now, done all content so far... and i have never bothered to go to level cap. I COULD make builds for it, and i have, even tho i rarely use them, but to me its more fun to optimize gameplay for normal high levels or lower SP as well. Cause most people will see that level range by far the most, because endgame missions are set there. In all my time, the most fun i had with... trying to make trash builds viable in at least SP. And a lot more things work then people think, if you build them right (and waste enough forma just to try stuff out). And by build them right i dont mean viral and slash on everything, but fittet for the situation, or the situations you encounter the most. And now cold and puncture actually open those "mid-builds" up even more, i already loved punching things with fist weapons and corrosive, and now i will see if i can put cold on them too. c: (Also Sibear went from mr-fodder to actually very strong AND fun, one of my favorite melees now. With incarnon first and now cold changes, especially on Kullervo but as a combo-build, cause its so strong that a pure heavy attack build isnt even needed lol.)
And that right there is the whole paradox of warframe, everyone wants optimal builds but most of the items you can use are good enough for almost all content. Often you don't need an optimal build at all.
Tenora prime should be good high base crit chance and puncture build for corrosive cold and your good to go it has insane firerate so status applikation should be good to.
now let's bully DE until they make magnetic procs into a vacuum that pulls enemies towards an enemy affected by it, so that it can ACTUALLY be magnetic
Viral/slash eh, I can't shot something once and move on to the next, I doubt most of my builds are all that afective with viral/slash and the way I play, I've always preferred up front damage.
Thank you 0:50 Thank you for putting it in a way of words i could never explain to my friends that play warframe. Like its ok if you wanna fact check me, i person who played for 8 years, on the warframe wiki. Be my guest, im probably slightly wrong, but damn to look at these other builds from channels and people where they are having things talked about for stuff YOUR NOT EVEN DOING....like my brother in christ you do not need a SP MOT build when we are farming Gara parts or something easy and dumb
I liked corrosive/cold before this update, been using it for years. I think we get too lost in meta ideas to really understand how many different ways to play are viable. Cold and corrosive together cover most elemental weakness of the significant enemies so it was already a good "raw damage" combo (no need to mod for the infested you're gonna one shot them anyway). Sure you don't get the dps or armor strip of heat but if everything dies in under a second what does it matter? This change is perfect imo, as where I've seen cold most is on crit based weapons that don't quite benefit from hunter's munitions and now puncture isn't just a wasted proc
the problem is, at the end of the day in the highest lvl content, it literally does not matter in the very slightest what you are running, EXCEPT you can't use cold in zariman, because it will literally brick your runs. Since you're armor stripping anyway, not matter the target level, it will fall over with any modded weapon. And then in aaaaall the other game modes, it does matter even less, since we are powercrept so hard already, you can blindly delete everything with blast modded on all your weapons and you wouldn't even notice. So, the only takeaway here is: Cold is still unusable, because the Thrax ghost animation is tied to the debuff, essentially bricking your zariman gameplay. It severely handicaps you in the circulus as well because of that.
I haven't got a chance to play with the new changes, but does the crit buff work on melee? If so, it might work well with the kompressa as a status primer, since you can mod for viral, corrosive, and cold on that gun.
Cold as a primer definitely has been a boon. Epitaph just went up in value because of the fact that Cold helps Crit Multi now. Puncture based weapons basically got buffed too that they can more consistently proc HMun. Can't utilize cold in that situation though because you want Viral-slash on that, unless you have external source of Cold like Frost for example. Lastly though, yes I do agree on testing for yourself instead of believing blindly their advice because for one, I've realized that Warframe players in general are two types, those that follows what works and has an open-mind about other stuff, and those who hyper-optimize what they do in this game to be 1000% efficient to the point it irks them to see other people tinkering that isn't Viral-slash, or Viral-Heat, or Corro-Heat. I for one go with Viral Slash myself because yes, by the time i've built statuses on enemies, they either die by the raw dmg of a decently built weapon and then the DoT basically helping you chunk them hard. Naturally on missions, you don't wait for them to die, so you have a decent raw upfront dmg on your weapons while your slash procs chunks them down in one tick, so I don't think its as bad. Ultimately, if it can kill stuff, it works and that's what matters.
Wile i did like the Buffs, i feel DE could have done better. I still think Slash deserves some nerfing tho. Glad to see someone using something that isnt Vulpaphyla or Kavat, i personally prefer the Djinn with the Helstrum because its better to spread status in large groups of enemies and the Djinn has 60m attack range. Since it stays over my head i dont get in the way of its bursts and it doesnt get in the way of my attacks. The way i built my Helstrum i can apply up 5 different stats on enemies with each burst which is great for Condition Overload/Galvanized mods. ♥
I had to comment on this, I don`t play like other ppl do since I don`t like high lvl mission (besides the circuit) I'd rather fight weak smart enemies than dumb tanky ones. I tell ppl Ash needs a revisit and ppl insult me, even though I can prove his issues with facts easy and my profile show I've play longer than most ppl (on psn) I tell ppl to mic up with me or read the post I made about it on the forums, they refuse and want to cuss me out all bloody day. So yea I don`t give a frig about what ppl think, I play how I want and facts and stats prove Ash has issues, needs a revisit and ppl don`t like Ash as they say they do.
You're one of the very few people here I've watched a video on where you don't blindly follow the meta based off of what other randos think and how they want you to follow it. Way too many times have I seen mindless comments like *"I would never play the way you're playing." "Who tf uses (insert weapon, character, build, etc) when this is IfInItElY bEtTeR!?" "You're doing it wrong." "Crap damage! I can do 9,999,999,999 dmg to this boss and one shot him!"* and so on. It's reached the point now where these elitist meta plebians are good circus performers every time they go full no life mode in videos or tge mostly the comments and they expect you to follow what they say. Yes, they may be right, but at the same time they're all over the place with their info and many different meta randos have various different ways to approach high level content. There is never a single core way to follow the "meta". Always play your way whether you follow the meta, play casually or both.
Love your Realistic Approach to PAtch reviews, i'll follows this rule to when i look into modding. Whenever i told information to me or i need better modding myself.
What I don't understand is why Viral is allowed to boost damage by 325%, but cold and puncture only boost crits by 25% and 50%. How is that balanced? You might say that viral is a combined element, so it should do more. I'll accept that, but even if you compare HALF of what viral does, +162.5%, it's still way more than cold and puncture. Then you might say, well cold and puncture also do other stuff, in addition to boosting crits. Ok, fine then we can half Viral again and it's still 81.25%, still putting it above the other 2 combined. You might also say that Viral is more specific because it "only" improves damage to health, but that can be cancelled out by the fact that every enemy has health, even if they're not all health-based, and that cold/puncture are also specific in only effecting crits, which every weapon may have, but not every weapon is crit-based.
Thing is, if you use one of the 6 Helminthable armour strips (or Unairu, or one of the other frames that also can do it) your crit weapon will just blow away the enemies without the viral or slash even.... or honestly even the new cold/puncture. With Radiation/Cold or Corrosive/Cold being some of the best universal DAMAGE (not status) types for that approach. Hunter Munitions is a weird loop around to turn a crit weapon into a status weapon to handle bloated armour values on some enemies, but we've got so many other tools to do that now its almost just folks struggling to hold onto old tech (or just not wanting to be bothered using the other ones)
A weapon i really felt the difference is Ocucor. New aug increases status chance so much that puncture works a lot, even pumping to orange crits. About cold idk, tried some combos but it lacks dmg. The CC buff is good tho
Never listen to RUclipsrs...lol no offense MC. These try hards will suck the fun out of the room along with the variety. The Buzlok is my favorite weapon rn. Its also strong af but ppl will tell you its trash even tho they never built the gun. A yter told them so.
What most player forget that the Meta mainly affect the Status Effect a.k.a Primer. Viral is a great primer not a good damage. So does the new Cold and Puncture. You need Slash or in this new case Corrosive Damage to bypass the armor
Now this is a great example of the placebo effect - there is no functional difference between putting cold damage on your weapon and having an empty mod slot (in terms of damage). Those 1-2 cold procs you got with the Corinth Prime? Roughly 1% damage increase to your slash procs. Just for comparison, Viral would be >100%, in case you weren't clear about that.
This is why I like your weapon reviews, you take usability into account and don't base your conclusions on 12-hour Steel Path Survival farms.

5:12 LETS GOOOOO BAABEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! i like the way the enemys melt down like that pretty good demonstration ! 👍
That Boltor Prime Incarnon sounds like fun. Might need to try that myself. I always prefer damage up-front to DoTs.
interesting.
im such a lazy sack of sht that i didn't bother to change any of my mod setups or experiment with anything, but it's good to know that these status effects aren't objectively weak now.
i also heard that there's a frost rework incoming...? maybe frost's new kit will have something to do with crit, or he might just proc so many cold procs that using heavy crit weapons on him is optimal.
Nothing yet for frost right now id say he’s fine but there is hydroid and inaros rework coming
Amazing Video MC! ♥
The slow component works tremendously well for demolists in disruption as well. More damage and lots of slow that they cant dispel.
ya the changes to puncture and cold are more so additive to what we already have and gives reason to use them other then just a what ever status to stack condition overload but a consideration of the different status would be more benificial to the individual weapon. got a weapon that ends up 50-90% crit chance, get puncture procs(even off weapon) to make it more consistance since adding another crit chance at that low of crit rate isnt that effective. the cold one though, this one doesnt feel like it makes break points but just 10%-20% dmg increase, its not unwelcome, but also not must go for
I already had a few weapons built for Cold-crits (fun name i gave them, hah) if I felt like it - Tenet Diplos, I've actually used a Corrosive-Cold build this whole time.
"the weapon to pick" Phage, Bubonico.
I actually was messing with corrosive and cold builds on secondaries and it has been quite fun, especially with some of the arcanes. I haven't messed with it quite yet but I have heard the battacor is quite great with a corrosive cold build too
0:50 literally me - buying [euphona prime]
diff cap should be raised with available armaments and getting to lvl 9k shouldnt take half a day.
also dmg display is still way too visible, we only really use it to make sure we hit the target, especiallay when hitting through walls
My Dera Vandal went from "eh" to "I am pretty good now!"
Im still one of those sticklers that puts gas / electric on half of my builds. its not as good as it used to be, but so long as you strip armor it does pretty well
i really need to get a new console or pc so i can catch up on all the stuff from the past 2-3 years.
as an encumber enjoyer, any status proc buffs are ALWAYS enjoyable
I'm feeling like building my telos boltor now.
Im loving the new corrosive cold things, though for the boltor i think shred is going to perform better than a base fire rate, as it it will help with hordes of enemies so much (also firing through obstacles is fun as hell)
Additionally, because youre no longer relying on status procs for the majority of your damage, just armour strip and crit boost, why not swap out the cold 7 mod for the primed pure cold damage mod?
I've been thinking about doing this lol, I basically don't stop shooting at an enemy until they are dead anyways. Viral and Slash always felt like wet noodles to me :\
The new Puncture procs are cool, cuz you get a free 25% absolute crit chance at max stacks, which is pretty good, but the new cold procs are still pretty meh. Its only a +0.5 absolute crit damage, which is pretty much worthless.
This would explain why my epitaph feels better now it was mainly used for priming but feels like i can one-two shot certain enemies in SP now
Yeah, the maximum reasonable level for testing any setup is 1.000 to 1.500, after that is not worth to keep playing in most cases.
Great vid. May I suggest frost with piercing roar?
Fantastic video. Love it!
I think the main thing youre ignoring here is status primers. Now not only are they useful for CO, but the actual status effects make it even more of a damage increase, even if you dont have a CO mod on
Lets also not forget. Nourish.
I've been eyeing Primary Frostbite, thinking about whether it's worth to farm or not
Im LR3, have over 5k hours in this game now, done all content so far... and i have never bothered to go to level cap.
And now cold and puncture actually open those "mid-builds" up even more, i already loved punching things with fist weapons and corrosive, and now i will see if i can put cold on them too. c:
(Also Sibear went from mr-fodder to actually very strong AND fun, one of my favorite melees now.
Might I recommend Primary Frostbite for your Boltor?
Man i totaly agree im never going to fight 9999 mobs.
Thank you 0:50
Thank you for putting it in a way of words i could never explain to my friends that play warframe.
Can I interest you in a Telos Boltor (same build) except with primary frostbite? It's insane.
Gotta try it with the frostbite arcane really ups the multi shot n crit damage thank me later
I dont really understand what ”increased critical chance threshold” means, what it do?
at max puncture procs your weapon against that enemy with the stacks gains 25% flat crit chance after mods
Dude. Take another look at the Quellor. Consider the Primary fire as a sort of 'Prime' for the Alt. Enjoy ;)
I haven't got a chance to play with the new changes, but does the crit buff work on melee? If so, it might work well with the kompressa as a status primer, since you can mod for viral, corrosive, and cold on that gun.
Yeah
You should really only be priming with kompressa in disruption because it’s not true AoE and it doesn’t link to anything
@@ExcaliburGT no the aoe is just small
@@noahedenborg4221 I said it’s not true AoE
@@ExcaliburGT no it is its just small
Love your weapon realism! Who tf cares about 9999 survival lmao
I seriously (for the life of me) can't get anyone who has a spare continuity mod, so am I just better off getting its prime version?
Is this the secret Frost buff we've been waiting for??
I had to comment on this, I don`t play like other ppl do since I don`t like high lvl mission (besides the circuit) I'd rather fight weak smart enemies than dumb tanky ones.
I tell ppl Ash needs a revisit and ppl insult me, even though I can prove his issues with facts easy and my profile show I've play longer than most ppl (on psn) I tell ppl to mic up with me or read the post I made about it on the forums, they refuse and want to cuss me out all bloody day.
So yea I don`t give a frig about what ppl think, I play how I want and facts and stats prove Ash has issues, needs a revisit and ppl don`t like Ash as they say they do.
corrosive and cold + grendel = problem solved :D
Always play your way whether you follow the meta, play casually or both.
or just helminth nourish
I still don't understand why punture reduce damage.
Perfect.
You might also say that Viral is more specific because it "only" improves damage to health, but that can be cancelled out by the fact that every enemy has health, even if they're not all health-based, and that cold/puncture are also specific in only effecting crits, which every weapon may have, but not every weapon is crit-based.
but can be made crit based
from flat icnreases like shadow haze arcane avenger harrow and the puncture procs
Never follow the meta, the meta kills fun in games and you should be enjoying your games and having fun.
Still the only WF youtuber who cares about fun over soul-crushing efficiency.
slap nourish onto your frame and get viral for free and BAM!
"Comparison is the thief of joy", if you like a weapon or Warframe, just play it, meta in a mostly single player PvE game is meaningless.
Literally no one says a weapon is good only if it can do level cap.
every weapon can do lvl cap some jsut have it easier
IMO, many frames nowadays can armor strip, upfront dmg is usable for high end content also.
Being inaros approved is not really a sign of quality
Never listen to RUclipsrs...lol no offense MC. These try hards will suck the fun out of the room along with the variety. The Buzlok is my favorite weapon rn. Its also strong af but ppl will tell you its trash even tho they never built the gun. A yter told them so.
Stop using vigilant armaments. The galvanized multishot mods already gives enough multishot. You would be better using another mod type.
no
What most player forget that the Meta mainly affect the Status Effect a.k.a Primer. Viral is a great primer not a good damage. So does the new Cold and Puncture. You need Slash or in this new case Corrosive Damage to bypass the armor
1. Viral is good damage against straight flesh 2. Corrosive damage won’t bypass armor
Biggest problem with cold is still the thrax ghost animations tied to it. sadly makes it unusable in warframes hardest and most fun/rewarding modes.
