I've watched The Untold History of the United States just the other day to watch what America had promised Stalin and looking at the Map now 😮 and understanding what is happening in Ukraine because NATO has gone why over the bumpers promised. I was taking a Pol. Sci. mid-term my 1st term at PSU, on 11/22/63. After the class the college President comes on the PA and says school's closed until further notice. I walked to my car, sat in it and cried, decided to drive to mom's 45 miles south on I-5. Got on the freeway and took 2 hrs. to go 40 miles - not a car or truck went faster than 30 mph - a funeral procession.

As a teen, when Oswald said I'm a patsy on live tv, I knew he wasn't lying and was the subject of vitriol for decades when I said as much. He was too convenient a find, too soon, for me to buy it, and I was a kid ! It smelled from the get.
Regarding Kennedy's apprehension about invading Cuba. The Soviet Union left Soviet manned artillery units under Soviet control in Cuba to thwart any American attempt to invade. Unknown at the time, the regular inventory of those units included tactical nuclear artillery rounds. Don't sneer. When the USMC deployed to Vietnam from Okinawa, their 8" artillery too included tactical nuclear rounds. A very heart pounding episode occurred when Communist Vietnamese Commandoes raided one such base and captured one such round. A long pursuit through sparsely populated areas deep into North Vietnam followed before Americans recaptured that round and quietly removed.
The peace speech.. The more I learn about JFK, the more he looks like an intelligent and decent human being. Very much antithetical to a politician. No wonder they took him out.

Two things: I've always wondered what our world would be like if he hadn't lost three great men, MLK, JFK, RFK. Oliver hit the nail on head when he said one thing, People want Security. Security is the one world that can be use world wide to describe the one thing that everyone desires. Security, security to lead your best life, security to raise children, security of a roof over you head and food in your stomach, security that if you are ill you can get the medical help you need without it bankrupting you. Without security you have nothing, It's impossible to really love and care for someone without security. Life is hell when you are always waiting for the next rock to roll of the cliff. Security, one simple but not so simple concept.
Many others too. Do you know how many civil rights, workers rights, communists, socialists, anarchists, etc. Leaders and fighters have been silenced or murdered by the state?
