Sad song, i was otr awhile ago, I felt the same pains. I tell you It's worth it to drive local for the woman in your life. Fedex and other ltl's are hiring many private contractor tractor owners for haul extra loads because they can't hire enough company drivers, in many cases all over the country. Iv seen enough of the all alone. Take care driver.
I'm 19 and my mom used to listen to George Strait all the time and if it wasn't for her I would never have listened to any of his music. Thank you mom!!!
You're gonna be in so many relationships, fall in and out of love many times but its something about doing what you love in life that's pure and real true love. I'll choose that over any relationship other than my son.
It's a sad breakup song, but what makes this unique is how mature it is about it. They recognize their relationship can't go on this way, and they part ways peacefully and respectfully. It's still sad, but I feel that's really important. Not that I don't like the "done me wrong" stuff, but it's refreshing to hear something sad but not vindictive and hollow.
George Strait's songs touch your soul...Cheyenne, Run, and Give It Away....if you've suffered heartbreak, George just reaches out and touches your soul with his music.
True. I broke up with my current ex a few months back, all I listened to was the 90s country radio and a bunch of George Strait. I even stopped listening to Linkin Park after that.
This is one bad ass song!! I'm a brown muffucka from southern San Diego and lived in Tucson AZ for the last 12 yrs. 3:19am and listening to this before a hard day of labor. 25 years same occupation and it's breaking me. Mr George let's me know my emotions aren't dead, love this man
Everytime I watch his movies or hear his music of his faith in God, it brings me back to the solitude of being under my grandmas care. She always watched over me, and i loved her loving nature.
Man I'm so glad I grew up on good music. Hank Williams (sr), Keith Whitley, Mel McDaniel, Hank Jr, all of them man. I sang this when I was little. I had a cowboy hat and I'd sing my lungs out when daddy played guitar
I don't know if anyone else experiences this, but the twin fiddles at the end really get to me, it's like a red-hot dagger straight (Strait?} to the heart... a feeling that has no words. I love this song. The lovely tragedy it conveys can easily bring me to tears.

As a child I remember this song playing on the truck radio with my dad while running a farm. I had forgotten about the song. I heard it today for the first time since the 80's. I just figured out the meaning of the song I had not heard since I was a little girl myself. Brought tears to my eyes. Great job Tanya and also the person that wrote the song. In 2023 there are good men out here doing the right thing by their children. I'm sure they would love a prayer sent their way. Tough times are upon us. Good hearted people will get us headed back in the right direction. Keep your 👀 on The I AM.
I’ve been traveling for my job for 8 years now and I feel this song deep down. Long haul truckers probably feel it too. I love what I do and it’s a little like the characters love for the rodeo. You do a lot of leaving and that can erode you down if you don’t watch but you still love it. Sometimes your holed up a night in a motel in some small town in Wyoming traveling and when you turn off the light it’s the light from the parking lot, sound of traffic on the highway, wind blowing and your thoughts. You wonder if you’re doing the right thing by doing what you enjoy, it’s a paradox. Can’t help but question the whole thing, what if I was just doing a 9-5 with a wife and kid? Would I be better off? The questions can eat you up. There’s trade-offs to everything, but there’s also value in everything too. I guess you just jump on life and ride it out.
My grandpa listened to country all the time, so I know a lot of these songs. He was a big fan of George Strait too. Since he died, I don't really listen to country music anymore. My aunt listens to it, and I was in her truck, and this song came on. I could remember every single word still. That goes for a lot of other country songs from the 90s to mid 2000s xD
I’ve driven through Cheyenne several times but last month two of my teenage kids and I drove over 1700 miles each way to attend Frontier Days. We saw Eric Church concert, saw a rodeo, experienced so many exhibitions, watched a parade, ate free pancakes with thousands at 7:00AM, and met some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met. Just it’s very name makes “CHEYENNE” such a beautiful and sexy place. Anybody who has never been to Cheyenne needs to put it on the bucket list. I don’t know if the scenario of this song is anything unique to Cheyenne but I love the line “I Can Still Make Cheyenne”.
A very Happy 69th Birthday George Harvey Strait May 18, 1952 Poteet, Texas.. And many, many more. Your a Country and Western Icon. And we thank you for that..
Miss Cheyenne. The rockies. My ol blue western skies and the damn wind! I'd give anything to be back in that good ol Wyoming air and open plains and prairies
My girlfriends name is Cheyenne and this is our favorite song and we always play it in the car or whenever we can! Our 1 year anniversary was a week ago and life couldn’t be any better ;)
I sure do miss Cheyenne. A rodeo can mean mean many things. It's the rodeo that's not in the public eye is what truly matters. Respects for every one of God's creations is what matters.
Absolutely marvelous instrumentation accompanying the song. You don't find this kind of professionalism in any other kind of music today, . . . including what is currently passed off as country.
People say that the song represents a peaceful way of parting ways. UNFORTUNATELY, they fail to realise that how much he is devastated by the end of the song when he repeats her lines in his mind. He's away too but he didn't find a new one for him. He's alone too but he didn't go to someone else's arm for comfort. Things were hard for him too but he finds a home in her. BUT, she didn't feel that way and it hurts him. Leaving the phone hanging without reacting much and then moving on repeating her final lines signifies much deeper pain than "peacefully parting ways".
Wish i had heard this when i was coming back from Afghanistan in 2011 and my wife at the time was cheating on me and left me on base when i got home because she "was tired" i waited for 6 hours to get picked up. She sold my cars, took 140k out of my bank and left me for another man. It took years to learn what this song could have taught me in 5 min. Stay strong my friends, because a woman can only feel bad for herself, even when u give up everything for her.

Reading the comments on this song, chuckling to myself that people don't know what or where Cheyenne is. Well, its where I live. In July and August we have the Cheyenne frontier days, aka, The Daddy of em all! Its a two week rodeo/carnival that also happens to be the only damned thing that happens in Cheyenne.
The song is about the life of a rodeo cowboy. The song begins with a phone call from a cowboy on the road to his love. He assures her that he is coming home. However, her tone alerts him that something is wrong. The chorus reveals that the woman has decided to leave him for another she feels is more reliable. The man replies that as much as this pains him, he will go on to Cheyenne, the most prestigious rodeo around. He was going to give up Cheyenne to be with her, one of the biggest sacrifices a cowboy could make, yet the moment he learned she had replaced him for another, he was quick to try to make Cheyenne. The cowboy does get to Cheyenne but it is revealed that when he does, it is his love that is still foremost on his mind. The song is about Lane Frost.
Could it also be that she was tired and hurt by not having him around? I´m a man who has just been dumped for very small reasons, for things that strong love fights for and fix. Don´t really know exactly why still... I relate to this song but it feels like she was dumped little by little, just like me...

I've aimed my truck towards that Wyoming line several running on hope, luck and that need to drive that pushes you on the matter what. I've always made it. Feel ever part of the song to my soul.
George Strait is a great country singer with.all his exes living in Texas. He also was a young troubadour that wrote in on a song, and, will be an old troubador.when he is gone. He did a great job covering Amarillo by morning, but, Terry Stafford is original writer and recorder of it. He also lived in Amarillo.
my father hates todays country music saying that it isn't even country music anymore. in a way he is using the song "Murder on Music Road" to that viewpoint. ha! He loves him some George Strait, Hank Williams, Alan Jackson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and he sees their music as TRUE CONTRY. Like father, like Son. Because i feel the same way. I only see those guys as true country music. i was raised listening to George, Hank, Alan, Haggard, and some Cash. thats awesome how you were at his first ever sold out show. RESPECT to you for being there for him the beginning. LONG LIVE THE KING OF COUNTRY MUSIC, GEORGE STRAIT!

I'm mainly Mexican but my grandma is white and my mom grew up in the country in Nebraska and I'm so happy that she was able to tell me about how great country is otherwise I'd only be listening to rap or pop all the time and wouldn't know about George straight or Conway twitty
There is so much about you that I'm gonna miss .......
This song just sticks with me... Could not imagine a loss like this ...
I love your music
Nothing better than Cheyenne days the last of July. Nothing better than the GRANDADDY OF THEM ALL RODEO. THE shopping in a wonderful!!
I've aimed my truck towards that Wyoming line several running on hope, luck and that need to drive that pushes you on the matter what. I've always made it. Feel ever part of the song to my soul.
Anytime I hear "Cheyenne" all I think is Lane Frost! 🙇
Evelyn 70s So have you heard July in Cheyenne by Aaron Watson?
It takes one good woman to love a true cowboy.... Those days I fear are past us.
JWaller thank you bro, im here with the boys now.
We love you out here on the high plains George.
Love the song. It's beautiful.
Bringing back memories! from San Anton Tx God Bless and wish you well . .
Thanks JWaller !

Ahmed Alanazi I listen to it everyday like 10 times
Never thought I’d find a fellow Arab here
My life story in a song.. God bless from Texas.
id like to think I am George s number 1 fan. was at his first sold out in Amarillo in 89 with my school friend sherry cox. know every one of his songs
my father hates todays country music saying that it isn't even country music anymore. in a way he is using the song "Murder on Music Road" to that viewpoint.
You were at his first concert?!?! Why didn't you take me along?!?! Oh yea... I wasn't alive
