- This rare iconic bike recently came into The Motorcycle Workshop at Bolney to be recommissioned. It had been standing for a few years and had all of the expected issues. The battery had died, the carbs were seized solid, the front brake was seized on, and of course the oil & filter & coolant needed changing. It was a real privilege to be given the task of getting it back up and running. A joy to work on such a wonderful machine. The RC30 is a bike on which many championships were won by the likes of Carl Fogarty, Joey Dunlop, Dave Jeffries, Fred Merkel, Freddie Spencer, Steve Hislop, Phil McCallen and many more. It was quite sad to see it leave the workshop, but the owner is so pleased to have it back ready to ride.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane, great work.
Fabulous video, V4 is a beautiful engine, and I love how carefully you did all the work. Thank you for taking the time to film it. 13th December 2022.
I had the pleasure of having one one of these in the mid 90's. Still my favourite bike to ride and look at and I have had modern high capacity bikes.
Always yearned to own an RC30, couldn't afford it back in the '80's & definatley can't afford one now! Beautiful hand built bike.
I’ve owned 4 RC30. Subframe always broke. Freddy Merkel rode a CD-R not a Rc I bought it. I must admit I’ve still got a soft spot for them. Same performance as a 1000cc from the same year . That looks a lovely bike.I px ‘d one of my RC’s on a Yamaha owo1. I regretted it before I even got home.
Awesome job on prepping a classic bike that's been sitting for awhile! Thanks for your effort on putting this video together.
Nice work , insight and explanations, clearly a long time skilled person
Great bike, I wish I still had mine it improved my my riding it's no wonder it dominated WSB.
Takes me back. Beautiful machine and a great video. Thanks
Great video thanks. Lovely set up there… keep up the good work
Very cool and interesting, and really nice camera work. Thank you!
"..get it to a track day.. They're so valuable so it's never going to happen"
What a pity! I can understand it, but I think if I owned it, I would use it.
I own his cheaper street sister (RC36), and I only can imagine something similar much lighter and with this race position.. it has to be very special. By the way, I always fill the oil filter before mounting it too.
Very good job and thanks for the video!
I really enjoyed the way you explained the way you were working on this fantastic machine, thank you.
pretty bikes but its only when you strip them back that you see where the money goes ,never understand those welded brackets ,thought it was weird when the first r1 had a permanent subframe ,this bike was a replica of the endurance rvf 750 ,great video thanks
Great video, thank you very much
Wish i never sold mine now, best bike i have ever owned.
Great video! I had a a 1986 RC24 VFR and loved it. Unfortunately the RC30 was out of reach for me financially. Beautiful machine though.
My favourite ever bike😍😍😍
Awesome bike. Don't see these around very often. Not in the states anyway
old school mechanic like myself , massive v4 honda fan myself 2 vfr 750 models and a vfr1200f RC30 still a cracking bike myself still like carbs once set good as injection my view is you beat honda for build quality .
I did a bit of racing myself and saw one of these in Hockenheim at a race weekend for amateurs. It was raining the whole weekend and nobody did many laps.
The guy with a perfect RC30 decided to lose his temper and put rain tires on , only to crash the beauty. Will never forget that. What an idiot and what a beautiful tiny bike.
Spondon Discs .....Lovely machine.
Good Video, thanks, luckily Honda have seen fit to Re-Manufacture Spares for these so they'll be around for a long time yet.
I’ve just completely rebuilt my RC30 for the track.
Briliant bike, hello from Romania, good job man!
Lucky chap, you got to work on an rc30,30 years as a Honda Tec I never got the chance
Question. The brake torque arm isn't to keep the caliper in the same position but to transfer the force from braking to the frame not the caliper mount right?
Easy on the front wheel.....🏁
hi, great work! can you advise of where you obtained the repair kit for the petcock?
Hi yes, it was nrp-carbs.co.uk
Pre loading the filter is a bad idea , you risk getting contamination into the already filtered side , whence crap getting straight to the crankshaft. Dont do it, its never recommended by any manufacturer for that reason.
Not much chance straight from a fresh oli container but i understand your point
Rc 30s ridden on the street would often scuff the camshafts because of low oil pressure to top end at low rpm s it's a race bike meant to rev
BULLSHIT!!!
Hello, How do I remove the 4 carburettor block?
thanks
Hi, You mean the whole bank of carbs? Tilt the back out, then the front. You may need to gently warm the rubbers with a hairdryer or heat gun to soften them first.
@@mcwbolney6417 Thank you very much for your help, It works, I have to admit I'm not happy to have done it myself...it's a change from a bike with only 1 carburettor ;) now I have to find the gaskets to change everything but in France it's rare...or else I'll send to PE UK...
I have promised myself that if I ever win the Lotto this bike will be my first purchase.
retail was 15K USD originally. Now. .?
My wish list:
Honda RC30
HONDA CBX 1100
83 KAWA GPZ 750 TURBO,
YAMA RZ500 KENNY ROBERTS.
I had the 400cc version of this (NC30) and I loved it. Right up until a gang of scumbags nicked it. They probably thought it was an RC30 so I guess I got the last laugh.
as nice as it gets.
i wouldnt give the bike back either~~
Need to show more care with someones 30Grand bike ... letting brake caliper go & clanging it into disc & rim ... that's just rough & less than 2 mins into this video ... shame on you.
30Grand? more like 50-60Grand.
its not open heart surgery.
I saw it as no more than a clink, like a bit of gravel.
