      Great work. First suggestion - Following NPC number counter, so would know number of following NPC you press USE key on. Second, i know parcour is cool and all but to scientist made that jump ? Impossible, best bet is to disassemble ladder or DIY makeshift bridge that scientist made by themself to reach that ladder on other side. Next chapter would require command HIDE for all NPC including Barneys, and Barneys need to learn to use heavier weapons

      For fist - WE GOT HOSTILES - areas of the chapter NPC need to learn how to avoid laser beams (both mines and scripted Turret lasers) BETTER than you and run AWAY from HECU back to the start of the level so you have enough time time to kill them, Barney should grab HECU weapons and be very cautious then fighting with HECU hiding behind cover running away from them at max speed, occasionally taking potshots from cover. Yes, i know you could leave your entire group near SILO entrance, but who will rescue injured scientist and Barneys ? Maybe add some modded weapons as M-243 SAW to HECU and Barneys ? Give all scientist GLOCK as a emergency weapon switching to MP-5, shotgun and other weapons ? Lots of work i know but it should be worth it then you have and entire NPC army at the end, also suggestion to add more NPC types with taken voice lines from BLACK MESA female scientists

      Half Life Source actually was at one point a pretty stable game, and pretty much played like Half Life but with some goofy ragdoll physics and realistic (albeit out of place) looking water. It was the subsequent Steampipe updates over the years that broke it, and Valve never did anything to fix it since.

      Then, that chapter should be re-designed entirely.
      There's no way you can rescue all those Black Mesa personnel in a level like that.

      What's cool is that just recently a bunch of Half Life 1 Beta files were leaked that showed that they actually had the intention of putting a lot more scenes where the Scientists escape and navigate the environment successfully!

    15:55 I am so glad to see the addition of rescue points. I want to feel like I'm actually getting my crew to safety, not simply pulling them deeper into this mess.
    Plus some stuff like Apprehension or On A Rail will be really difficult to do with the crew around (the former for lore reasons, like why don't they help me and the latter because it is bad enough to navigate all that alone, nevermind cramming people onto the train).

      It makes me wonder a few things through, if you could pull everybody towards the end of the game, would gman do something with your buddies? Would he have a few additional lines like "those companions you've brought here... our employers are evaluating their capabilities at the moment. And on that note i must say, your ability to lead and rescue those in your path is quite remarkable."? And also, imagine if you got an alternative ending if you tried to follow them? Realistically, the whole point of the journey is that gordon freeman is still trying to escape, so if you're able to escape, wouldnt it make sense to get smthn like "Status: out of reach, the evaluation has terminated."

      He could do what they did in Hazardous Course. Gordon could find a switch that changes the power of the rails to "economy mode" so scientists can walk across them without getting zapped.

    Gets better and better!
    I have few suggestions:
    1) Devide squad system into guards and scientists. Guards are in the crowd, but it would make more sense to see them along with freeman fighting enemies while scientists wait in the back. Also make it bindable to other keys.
    2) Make guards able to pick up other weapons (like SMGs from dead soldiers) and make them useful in combat.
    3) We've got hostiles: Remove mortar but make soldiers spawn until every scientist escaped (like when you extract in Helldivers 2 and have to hold on the enemy). That would feel more epic than killing every soldier and calmly letting everyone escape and would make sense to bring guards to help with soldiers.
    4) During sections when you don't have enemies you can make NPCs go on their own, without being called. They'll wait you at the destination.
    5) During the fallen pipe section where NPCs climb through vents on their own make a guard always go first and if there is no guard scientists won't come. When a guard jumps out of the vent he can have a phrase like "I told ya he's here!"
    6) Maybe you can rescue some HECUs as well? They won't be hostile. We've seen in Opposing Force that soldiers don't shoot everyone on every occasion.
    7) Make it so you can turn off the stats on saved civillians. Or as suggested make it npot as intrusive, in the corner of the screen could be nice. Cool to have it, not cool to have it mandatory.
    8) Add special NPCs. We already have CPR guy, but he could be more. Imagine him being able to revive Freeman in battle but once every minute to not get abused. He should get different appearence. Maybe like in Blue Shift some scientists don't wear their coats. He could also give some HEV charge, health and be able to stay in cover during battle.
    Also a special security guard that would be extremely useful in combat. He would have smth closer to soldier AI than a guard. He can use SMGs, shotguns, grenades and maybe rocket launchers. Just a tough guy with a lot of firepower and regenerative health. He would probably have a different hat or a vest. He deals 30% more damage. He can give or toss some ammo if Freeman is running low. But to get him in your squad you would have to save him in the future chapters.
    These two could be your right hand men. Maybe they could also have some sort of character development? Just some special voicelines like you have shown you can do.
    Other (not my) suggestions:
    1) Have a button to view NPCs hp
    2) CPR scientist can revive, but other scientists are able to heal hp for NPCs
    3) Mechanic NPC. Like scientist but he gives armour instead of hp.
    4) NPCs have a chance of falling on parkour sections. (My take: Guards have a 30% chance to just refuse to jump on extremely dangerous sections and scientists have 70% chance to refuse. Noone dies 😊)
    5) Add a truck at the extraction point shown in the video. NPCs run around it and despawn or they do a climb animation inside and drive off.

      rescueable HECU wouldn't make sense since they're enemies up until lambda complex which is when the game is almost over by that point

    This is so awesome. For the parts where your squad call function simply doesn't work though, I recommend having a hud hint show up that says "Neutralize all potential threats in this area before summoning your squad here" and also have ALL scientists and barneys give a 'I won't follow you anymore' voiceline upon a squad call function being denied. This will teach the player not only what they need to do to regain control of squad summoning, but it's also extremely funny to hear a maddening cacophony of *I rEfUsE tO gO aNoThEr StEp!!!* all at once whenever a squad summon function is denied.

    Here is two suggestions.
    -You need that medic Scientist from the start to heal wounded Barney in next chapter Power Up.
    -Scientist and Barneys will stay behind in hallway, that connects last Blastpit map and first Power Up map, so player don't have to struggle with Gargantua and HECU further in the chapter.

      This isn’t a useful suggestion but smither’s should have a name tag so you know it’s him. Also the NPCs should have conversations, I’d imagine it’d be similar to Wilson and bad cop chatting at specific points and if their conversation is cut off by something it will be continued afterwards.

    You can add to your addon:
    1. Scientists and security guards can select weapons or exchange them for better ones.
    2. With the help of AI (I hope you know how to use it) make more replicas for scientists.
    3. If a scientist or a security guard receives damage to a certain part of the body, then there will be a certain animation (for example: you shoot in the scientist’s leg or the security guard will limp)
    4. NPCs can fight with other NPCs (for example, zombies, headcrabs, military and friendly NPCs for weapons)
    5. NPCs can get angry. When they are angry, they can throw down their weapons and fight with their fists (especially manifested among scientists when their weapons are taken away from them or when they have from 15 to 7 health, when they already have 6 or less health, they will run away from the enemy in fear)
    6. Add scientists with a crowbar or a pistol, and when we find them, they have a 5% chance of shooting at you out of fear.
    7. Add a system that allows scientists or security guards to get drinks from the vending machine and when the scientists drink the drink, their health will increase
    8. Add an armor exchange system (works only with guards) guards can give scientists part of their armor in difficult times.

    It would be cool if you added a line to the hiding spot Scientist when you recruit him, something like "Well, if you insist." Maybe you have to try and recruit him a few times before it works

    It can be canon perfectly that you can save a recently human attacked by a Headcrab, he would have injuries on his head, but can be saved by killing the headcrab quickly
    also: I love this mod mand, you are amazing... i really hope you don't burn out of this, is an amazing job!

    Every since i first played Half-Life i always wished it was possible to save various guards and scientists. but not only that. But by saving them you could get access to different rooms and paths through out the facility. Not to mention guards being able to help you in encounters.
    This would be a neat way to take Half-Life to the next level.

    I couldn't wipe a large grin off my face throughout this video. My only regret is that in Half-Life: Source, the NPC dialogue system is broken, so the scientists and guards don't exchange questions and answers like in vanilla; maybe add more custom lines? They were sure a joy to hear.

    10:42 - I think you should add a voice line to the scientist being saved here. Something like this:
    _"Did that soldier just try to shoot me? But.... why... why would he do that? Did the government betray us? Damn them bastards! I am afraid that now we might have to rescue ourselves... glad to have you with us, Freeman!"_
    That would be a neat detail, because surely the scientist would be shocked at the military betrayal.
    Also, I would generally recommend sprinkling a few extra custom voice lines, they make the game tenfold more immersive. Regardless, the project in general is simply fascinating! Your work is magnificent. I hope you can continue this, you're doing great! Besides, those animations are beautiful.

      @@bizmasterTheSlav I wonder if there's a way to have it play the line only if you intercept while the scientist is getting shot by the HECU, and if you do it before the soldier even fires, the scientist has a different response, still under the impression that the military was there to help.

    Extremely minor detail that I have never seen anyone else pick up on:
    The Einstein preforming CPR on a Barney right outside of the destroyed Anti-Mass Spectrometer chamber at the start of Unforeseen Consequences is implied to be the same Einstein previously seen in the Anti-Mass Spectrometer chamber's airlock in Anomalous materials.
    Note in Unforeseen Consequences' version of the Anti-Mass Spectrometer chamber's airlock there's no Einstein corpse laying on the floor, only the Slick scientist's one.
    What I'm getting at is that if that the CPR Einstein NPC wears a medic band, the one in the airlock Einstein NPC should also be wearing one for consistency's sake.

    For a better solution to the WGH mortar, you could have a soldier with a tactical map somewhere in the area. Killing him would stop the mortars.
    It'd be cool to have the scientists and guards cheer and stuff when you burn the tentacle too. It'd help instil that sense of camaraderie.

      Static magnetism to the railcar slightly above car surface or turn off collisions of every kind until chapter end, at one point whole crew need to be transported om other car entirely, which made me think.. Maybe made absolutely separate railcar just to them ? You have your car and NPC's have own car at High-Voltage Depot. You control your car, they have scripted to move after you only then it is safe. Their car can be not RailCar at all but a NPC looking and moving like one transporting nothing at all.

    Make it so the scientists can pick up two weapons, The glock and the MP5, since there is already AI for those two weapons and I'd love to relieve you of your suffering.
    Or, even better, allow them to pick up PCVs and security armor.

    Something that will help to the player is to know if someone of THE ARMY died at the end of a chapter. Like, the game counts the amount of personel saved and tells who died or went missing (without counting the escape ending). I know that will be a pain in the ass, and sorry for my broken english xD

    This is _soooo good!_ I love the scorescreen at the end of each chapter, and the new animations. Your presentations are always so funny haha.
    What happens with the scorescreen at the end of We've Got Hostiles if you help them all escape?
    For Power Up, my suggestion would be this: a big train wagon that the whole platoon can board, it then departs into a new tunnel, and they either show up later at a part of On a Rail where it is not a pain to have them around, or it could be another rescue point.
    Another suggestion I have, if you ever get to that point, would be to have rescuable Vortigaunts in Xen who follow you and help you kill Nihilanth at the end. They all die of course, Gman doesn't rescue them, but "Our life is worthless, unless spent on freedom" to quote the HL2 Vorts.

      Alternatively the Vorts at the end could surround themselves with the purple glow like at the start of HL2 Episode 1, but the Vorts in question are too weak to grab Gordon as well, and GMan intervenes successfully, leading to the usual ending

      @@bruhthatexists I think the simple teleportation (not the purple ritualistic stuff) we see a lot in HL1 is a property of Nihilanth, rather than the Vorts themselves, because: 1. They never do it again in Half-life 2, when there are plenty of times when it would be convenient, like rescuing Eli or taking refugees to Black Mesa East; 2. the Nihilanth is described as the powerful entity holding the portal together, and likely deliberately coordinating some of the teleport-based attacks by his forces.

      @@NiiRubra they could still be teleported, since after Nihilanth death portals became unstable, which caused them to teleport bunch of Xen creatures on US territories.
      And considering scientist got saved from headcrab 2:10, anything can happen in this mod ig

    mayhaps make the barneys 'braver' in any situations that would normally scare the scientists? if its not too difficult atleast
    having the barneys/security have more of a 'role' in saving others may also seem notable

    Finally to see some rescues in half life 1 game where usually many people likes only to kill scientists and security guards, but this is really nice job done and huge challenge. Keep it up, well done and thanks god there is someone that cares about the scientists and the security guards. I hope it will be possible to download this entire mod, and don't forget there is 1 scientist in Nihilanth's chamber.

    Though it may be difficult to modify and bring more model diversity, i like the idea of having scientists that know basic medical needs beyond then just using syringes, maybe taking notes from the Black Mesa Character Expansion mod, maybe some that are paramedics? Might even be good for when there are hurt allies, can be really handy when in combat
    Either way its still a good detail adding the armband to distinguish the CPR scientist from the rest.
    Another but questionable idea would be having rogue H.E.C.U soldiers that defy the orders and actually help out the Black Mesa staff, though that should be chapters beyond the first levels where the H.E.C.U make themselves known, maybe for a good way to evacuate a certain amount of NPCs to give the player more space when there's upcoming levels that are too tricky for having an giant army of NPCs to fit.
    But anyways, good luck with the progress of the mod!

      I think the rebel Hecu could maybe be found in the end of On A Rail, since those are those ones who say they don't want to be killing civilians.

      Sounds not bad, but I doubt they would do that, I think they would more likely just ignore you, say something like: "Go." or "I'll pretend I've never seen you."
      But closer to the end, when the HECU gets torn to shreds by Black Ops and Xen creatures it would make much sense to make them saveable, maybe even make it so some of them would go in front and yell stuff like: "Don't shoot!" or "Lower your weapons, they are with us!".
      Can make some military trucks as evacuation points for all of them, maybe make a Helicopter an evacuation point either.

      @@natsudb4810 Hmm...maybe add the engineer guy too then? Could de-activate some turrets, laser-mines, maybe even restore some armor, like someone suggested with mechanics/Black Mesa Engineers. Not sure here.
      Some of the HECU guys could provide you with ammo, grenades. (Closer to the end game of course, they would be less picky there, in their situation. And considering the reputation Gordon built, a One-Man Army, it would make sense)
      The medic guy is 100% needed there tho.

      @@Le_Heater_Man Indeed! At that point it'd also just give my gear to the one guy that killed Half of a unit's Life. Oddly enough sounds like the HL2 rebels, ofc leaving out the war crimes part.
      Though there should be a desiging feature to distinguish them to those players that are far used to killing soldiers with an army of NPCs behind them.

    I wish Black Mesa would've implemented something like this while it was being developed
    There was already an achievement for rescuing every scientist and guard in Office Complex so this is the next logical step they could've taken

    So during We've got Hostiles, you have two choices:
    1. Wreck the electrified fences, enabling the current employees with you to reach a car park or something and drive off to safety (Might be hard to mod though, I don't know).
    2. Admire your army as it grows even larger!
    If it were me, I'd say that if you choose to forego using a rescue point such as the aforementioned one on the surface in that chapter, the verdict should be changed to "Are you sure this is the right way?" instead or something similar, signifying that you missed a potential rescue point, either deliberately or otherwise.

    It's interesting to see the Rescue Edition in Opposing Force. View The goal originally stood at the military to rescue personnel, after neutralizing the entire complex along with the Black Ops Team. So it will be interesting to see.

      You do start out saved by a scientist, maybe you could rescue your fellow squad by helping the scientist who rescued you, like, spam E on the desired soldier while the scientist performs cpr and just imagine that shepard is helping somehow, maybe search for medical supplies, etc.

    Maybe you could make like a side quest about crawling through some holes in the hills to reach the mortars and to take them out?
    Also I think the escape gates on "We've got hostiles" should have a military truck or an APC as a prop so scientists and guards could escape

    Nice mod =) always sad when i couldn't save them all.
    About scientists in fallen elevator in first chapter - I have couple ideas.
    1. maybe make sure that elevator stops on needed floor, giving some seconds to rescue them, before elevator falling again.
    2. Or increase elevator stopping time a bit, before falling. Then point at elevator and press E in order scientists to come out from elevator, before it falls.

    Have an idea:
    I don’t know if this is possible in half-life source but an idea for the scientist and security guards to have/change weapons.
    Like every time you get a shotgun instead of you converting it into ammo for yourself, you keep it and then you can give it to you a scientist or security guard and this could work for the common weapons you can find

    Suggestions below:
    Makes me glad i lived long enough to see every npc be saveable in Half Life as a huge Half Life fan. Also really funny editing its great.
    I wanna give some suggestions but current one i can think of is like Sven Coop commands i see you have npcs follow you command with crowbar right click but what about "go there" or "fall back take cover" orders.
    I wonder if Scientists can be armed in the future, they have have like less accuracy and firerate compared to Guards, and being able to change Security Guards weapons. So scientists arent just walking medics that heal you under 50 hp. I feel like this suggestion might be too conplicated so im honestly just fine with the ai being able to go through Half Life with me.
    Also Scientists being able to heal fellow friendly Scientists and Guards to keep everyone healthy.
    I wonder about On a Rail levels with the tram like will it just be a really long tram to fit all of them lol. Also man goodluck with the later levels and Xen. Although having an army in Xen would make you unstoppable.

    I do not know where can be used, but if you remember when Rosenberg in Blue Shift helped the player to climb on him to get out of the trailer? What if the one NPC help another to climb, the the one up pull the one from the bottom?

      That would be the solution to save the security guard at the start of We've Got Hostiles, where you have to go into a vent at the same elevator shaft from the previous chapter, albeit slightly modified.

    Suggestion: How about some variability in the approach to going down, for example, scientists do not take risks and use ladders, and the guards immediately jump off (Depends on section, I taked this moment for example 28:10). This will also help speed up the waiting process.

    I'm wondering how you'll do on a rail, since that could get messy. And the part where gordon gets knocked out lol. For that one, since you're basically at the surface already, you could maybe have a separate real exit door to offload your army into the wild. But if you choose not to... maybe sleeping gas? knock out the entire army lol

    I love the idea of a rescue point! That way you can say you saved them and simply move on without the pain of having to baby them throughout more annoying sections. Maybe the next rescue point should be in On A Rail or somewhere near the dam after Questionable Ethics.

    Like my childhood dream when I first time played Half-life and wanted to save as many scientists as possible, but it was impossible due to technic limits of the game. But look at it now. Jesus, what a spirit.

    I have some suggestions: (1) you can save the vent guys by holding down E like you did for the ladder guy, (2) save dumpster guy, and (3) a medic scientist always spawns in the vent after the first rescue point so that you always have a medic scientist in case you saved (or killed) the first one. This way a lot of the wounded Barneys and scientists from later chapters can be saved without making a random scientist a medic scientist. Also, I have no idea how you could possibly save the scientist in the Nihilanth boss fight since (1) he is in a boss fight and (2) the only reason Gordon survived is the G man saved him; there is no reason he would save a random scientist.

      That should be only if you save fallen hecu soldiers (after forget about freeman), as long as a few hecu soldiers are following you, the hecu soldiers will not shoot, but wont follow you. This seems like a reasonable way to go about this idea.

    Now, something that would be great or even realistic would be that when an H.E.C.U grunt is killed by an alien, a CRP scientist can revive him and he becomes friendly to the player as a thank you
    (let's not forget the fact that the H.E.C.U grunts are also humans with feelings)

    This mod looks fantastic! Might be a bit early on to ask but I wonder if you'll let them follow you to Xen? That'd be a pain to do I have to guess
    Edit: I also love that you've gone out of your way to add new dialog to show that your actions really do change the game.

      I dont think there is a reason for them to follow Gordon to Xen story wise. Scientists can stay back and help with the teleportation to Xen and Barneys can guard and protect them. At the end it wouldnt matter anyways since Black Mesa got nuked and Gordon was put in stasis by G-man 😅

    RUclips recommended this to me and I had to watch parts 1 and 2 before I even began to watch this, now here I am. I like the concept! As I also tried my best to save as many scientists as I could back when I first played half life. I still have the screenshot saved of the entire group too! Great mod idea, keep it up!
    Edit: I love the statistics at the end of each chapter, it gives such a sense of accomplishment!
