Mike Ness' cover of "I Fought The Law" originally written by Sonny Curtis and performed by The Crickets post-Buddy Holly. Off of his solo album "Under The Influences"
The thing about a true artist is that they can take a song that is already groundbreaking, put their own stamp on it, and send it out to another generation of people. Johnny Cash was/ famous for it, as well as Mike Ness. We all know the link there, groundbreakers.... But this is just coming from a Tennessee boy, what do I know right.
You can just hear the old legends in Mike's music. I was listening to Johnny Cash last night, and I could definitely hear where he had influenced Mike, and how Social Distortion got their sound.
Social D is a great band with a wall of sound. A band that anyone would love to see in a crowded bar and just have a great time. Mike Ness works with so many new bands...Social D is awesome
The original record written by Jerry Allison was straight up country. This is just getting closer to the roots. That said, I've never heard a bad version of this tune - sure sign of undeniable place in the Americana canon.
That moment when you're smuggling drugs across the boarder in an RV and it breaks down so you find you find yourself singing this song at a campfire with a group of travelers, the father of said travelers being in the DEA
For all of you that think Mike Ness and Social Distortion are garbage, you are wrong. Mister Ness is still the same guy he was when he started. He never sold out. He knows where he came from and is still sticking to his roots. If you want to argue about other bands, do it on their videos.
@slot962 okay from the albums warning onwards Green Day have more been playing pop punk, but all the other albums they've done are punk. Have you heard Social D's new album ? Not exactly a punk record more a country rock album . Yet I don't believe that means Social D aren't punk I just look at the bigger picture aka their back catalog. It's the same with Green Day.
@svengaligraves13 im free. i can meet you anytime. im used to travleing to beat someone senseless. give me a day and time. in fact, lets make it worth my time and yours. 1000.00 to the man standing. and lets not start a flame war here, a simple yes or no will do. long live MIKE and the D.
Anyone can make music. Anyone has the right to fucking cover a song. Just because Social D has been around longer doesnt mean no other band has be around 30+ years to cover the fucking song. fuck anyone who has hate on any band.
@@ettnollbajen9945 Buddy Holly never wrote this song Sonny Curtis wrote this song he was a friend who played with Holly but Buddy definitely never wrote it.
Fuck. Green Day was around since 1986 god damnit. They're not a normal mainstream band. I don't know what the fuck is happening with them now but big deal. Social D rocks.
@phoenix15477 Isnt it everyones right to think he is garbage?? i dont se how you can tell some one else what to think and what to like! Adolf hitler tried it, didnt work for him wont work for you!! I like this and not because you told me to like it, i have a mind of my own! its great!! but you are right on one point, dont argue about other bands!! everyone has the right to like or hate any kind of music! ;)
how are they wannabe? are there such thing as a wannabe? I dont even give a shit if they wanna be punk. ITs all about listening to the music not judge the bands backround information. I wouldnt care if Social Distortion was pop, punk, rap, hip hop, country or anything, if they sound good like they do, ill listen to them. Seriously, just listen to the music
I love punk, rockabilly, psychobilly & such etc. the thing that has always amused me is that they have the kinda punk greaser look but not psychobilly & their music don't have the psychobilly sound either. Leave it to mike to figure out how to do that lol.
Danny Gomes thats called rockabilly! its a so.cal.thing. my boy moced out there for a while n came back with greased hair n sideburns! like a 50s greaser uniform! just look at jesse james!! lol
I play this song for my "Country Music" friends and tell them Mike Ness is more country than Toby Keith or Tim McGraw will ever be.
@@fancychannelname Jingoistic is such s fucking stupid word.

Saw them back in 99’ in a bar in SC….suprisee me when a mosh pit broke out and I got caught up in it. What a great band and show.
Mike Ness crushing it with a country spin on a classic. If you want your face blown off check out the Clash live version on From here to eternity.
I've heard both and I think they're neck and neck.
The original record written by Jerry Allison was straight up country. This is just getting closer to the roots. That said, I've never heard a bad version of this tune - sure sign of undeniable place in the Americana canon.
Excuse me, written by Sonny Curtis, first released by The Crickets post Buddy. More straight up rockabilly than straight country.
Great music!
Brilliant version 👍👍👍👍🙏🇺🇲🇬🇧
Great cover!
Incredible
Buddy Holly lives now and forever!!!
Actually this one was written after buddy passed by the Crickets guitarist Sonny Curtis.
when I grow up I wanna be like Mike Ness.

Tudo o que o Mike cantar fica bom
Mike is kind of country - Johnny Cash is one of his big influences.
Long live Social D!
Sing me a song, brothers... Something sweet and low down!!! A dose for my 💜 of hearts... An ounce of pleasure for my pain...
Bravo el Americano roots!!!!

Sonny Curtis of the Crickets wrote it.
This is the best version of this song. Period.
No matter who does it after them, The Clash's version is still the definitive take on this classic!
mike ness plays lead guitar, all these record!
@Bonertronica Rockabilly was in the 1950's, Psychobilly is more like what you're thinking of. Fusing punk, rockabilly, and other styles.
@GentlemanHES Thumbs up to that bro

I think Mike Ness is the only original member of Social D left in Social D, too.
I lost my gun and I lost my fun
