@LordSteinchen: i think this uses the same concept as conventional photogrammetry (extracting 3D data from aerial photos with planes), only its done on a smaller scale with drones

@matchbook69: i dont know... photogrammetry requires the object to be stationary in order to be able to extract 3D information. except perhaps if some better technology is used

If this is based on the tech that Apple acquired, then its origins are with the declassified algorithms used in missile guidance systems developed by Saab Defense. Its merely being re-purposed for helping farmers.

Does it only work with a drone? Or could I use videos taken from a plane, too?

How much do those UAVs cost with the full photo setup? Throw in a 4G card and solar panels and it can fly for a long time while sending pictures to a ground server.

See Nokia Ovi Maps 3D !
It looks exactly like that !

@yaosio "Throw in a 4G card and solar panels"
Absurd proposal given the inefficiency of solar panels. The smalles thing that can power such setup will be several meters large and would be operational in Europe for a month per year, would crash every 10 flights because of strong wind plus flimsy structure and would need to fly at altitude where there is no more cellphone coverage.
You just cannot glue together fireworks, car GPS with roadmap and web camera in order to have cruise missile.

Yandex/Google please make a 3d map of my city using this technique!!!
Also- won't satellite photos from different angles do the same thing??

They decided to dedicate this technology to farmers???
oh jesus christ cmon man...i could have given this tehnology to infinity ward for maximum call of duty gameplay.

I prefer to do it real-time, not post rendered
