    This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the Audi Q5 and the Genesis GV70. The Genesis offers more power than the Audi, the GV70 base engine is a 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder with with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 300 horsepower, 311 lb-ft of torque. The 3.5L twin turbocharged V6 with an 8-speed automatic transmission has 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. The Q5 has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 7 speed automatic transmission, 261 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The SQ5 has a 3L turbocharged V6 with an 8 speed automatic transmission, 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The Genesis 2.5T base model in Canada comes with plenty of standard features like, a 14.5” touchscreen, an 8” LCD instrument display cluster, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, heated leatherette front seats, a heated steering wheel and power passenger and driver seats. To get the bigger 12.3” digital instrument cluster and quilted Nappa leather seats, you have to move to the top trim of the 3.5T model. The Audi Q5 comes standard with many of the same features as the GV70, but it has a 10.1” touchscreen, a 7” colour driver display and leather seating surfaces with stitching. You have to move up to the Progressiv trim in Canada to get the heated steering wheel and the 12.3” driver display with Audi’s virtual cockpit. One thing to point out is the Audi SQ5 in Canada comes standard with a 12.3” driver display and Nappa leather sports seats with diamond stitching. You don’t have to pick the top trim to get these features like in the GV70.

    Owned (and loved) my 2011 Audi S5 prestige (good ole V8) for 10 years. Just replaced it with a Genesis GV70 3.5T sports prestige (uyuni white + red/black interior). It’s a work of art. I can tell you that the tech is superior in the GV70, the ride (yes, even compared to the Q8, Granted my Q8 was missing air suspension) This vehicle is superior to the Q8 in every category other that size obviously. I really liked the looks and now that I've driven it on a 6 hr trip 12 hrs total I'm extremely pleased. This is my first genesis and if they are all this way I may stick with them. I had no issues with my Q8 but I honestly think this is a superior vehicle other than the smaller size which is what I was looking for anyway.

    The Q5 looks so bland so generic and has hard uncomfortable seats. The GV70 looks just gorgeous inside and out, it is RWD biased so it handles probably better than the Q5. Reliability wise I bet my money on the GV70 and it has better warranty anyway. As for brand recognition that's for snobs. I'll take the GV70 over the Q5 any day. BTW you forgot to mention the Q5 2.0T has a Dual clutch transmission which requires oil changed every 40000 miles.

I think the Q5 is the jack of all trades, and its design while understated, is classy and will never go out of style. Next to the GV70 though, that thing is gorgeous. I can't wait for Genesis to get a few more years of brand recognition under their belts and some sales volume to be able to reinvest.

    Your video was exactly what my wife needed to convince her to buy the Genesis GV70! To us, the Audi reminds us of a VW with slightly cosmetic differences.
    FYI, Hyundai hired Dr. Peter Scheyer who was previously chief of design at both Audi and BMW over 12 years ago. Dr. Scheyer was able to convince Albert Bierman of BMW M-series to join him to work his magic on the company's suspension systems. That said; German design is on full display at Hyundai at an affordable price point.

    • @alexandergoldman
      @alexandergoldman 2 года назад +1

      Great comment; you clearly know a lot about the auto industry. Although I believe Dr Schreyer had retired after becoming the first foreign president in the Hyundai group... I believe the Genesis designs are overseen by former Bentley designers, Luc Donckerwolke (Bently, Audi, Lamborghini etc.) and Sang Yup Lee (Bentley, New Camaro etc..). But yes, hiring Dr Schreyer is what started the complete transformation of Kia, and then Hyundai/Genesis..along with Albert Biermann..

    I live in Vancouver, Canada and just had the GV70 w/ 3.5TT overnight and totally fell in luv with it.
    Its a Luxury CrossOver that has plenty of power. It won't outperform the more sportier Benz GLC 63S AMG power & torque nor the X3 M 40i, or the Macan Turbo but the LUXURY (quieter & smoother ride) and the VALUE Proposition will have you thinking a few times over if the German options are really worth it for the extra cost. GV70 has the edge in my books b/c of the Ext & Int styling PLUS high level of materials used in the Int as top notch. I like to invest my money whenever possible and change out my daily every 5-10 yrs.
    This GV 70 has many Luxury features, new updated interior, that ext styling and enuf power (less than 5 seconds 0-60) to have tons of fun with. Its exceptionally quiet in the cabin and in Comfort mode it really is a smooth ride.
    If ur comparing the GV70 to the Germans you will be blown away with all the luxury standard features (Drivers side massaging seats, front heated & cooled seats, that massive center screen, the move forward & back option on the key fob, massive sunroof & moon roof, AWESOME sound system, all the safety features, etc...) It really does offer an AWESOME VALUE vs the Germans. PLUS the scheduled maintenance for 5 yrs is INCLUDED!!!
    the price in Canada for a full load with the interior CF trim, 360 camera, quilted leather, etc is $75,500 including F&PDI. Just pay taxes and doc fee.
    I'm VERY Very impressed:-)
    Now, do I choose the non latest interior and refreshed exterior G70 sedan which is a little quicker but the rear leg & head room is tighter or opt for the roomier, up to date & latest interior GV70 that soaks up speed bumps & road imperfections that is also much more quieter, but about $10K more cost?
    Fantastic VALUE options either way.
    Cheers from Vancouver.

    In terms of pricing, I believe Genesis’ (Canada) pricing shown on their website includes everything but dealer, miscellaneous fees and GST. With Audi (Merc and BMW), unless you special order yours, the ones at the dealership are loaded with options, and you still have to add freight. So at the end of the day, in most cases, the GV70 and the Q5 will probably cost most buyers the same ish amount of money out the door.

    • @dekeorama
      @dekeorama 3 года назад +6

      By my math, the SQ5, comparably equipped ($79,540 with fees) + Maintenance and 1 extra year warranty vs 3.5T Sport Plus ($75,500). The Audi Q5 (leather, HUD, heated rear seats, drive and park assist, etc) to 2.5T Prestige is similarly 5-7% higher + maintenance and warranty. The question is do you want to be another black Audi Q5, Silver GLC, or White X3? or mix it up a bit with the GV70. Most of the reviews seem to be struggling with the notion that this car is 5-10% less expensive and drives way better than expected, but they just won't concede it's a good alternative. I notice that Acura reviews don't seem to get hung up on the German comparison. I'll give these guys some credit on this one; they give the GV70 more credit here than they seemed to in the long review where they still get hung up on the German comparison. Now, most people buy base models to say they drive an Audi, Mercedes, BMW. I think the market they may end up converting is the Acura, Infiniti, etc market where an RDX Platinum Elite (5-year warranty and maintenance) and GV70 2.5 Advanced or Prestige are similarly priced but the Genesis brings a higher level of luxury for that price. You're not going to convert the person looking for the status of the BMW logo. Now, having driven the 3.5 and the others I like the 3.5, but it's always personal preference unless you're just buying the logo.

  • @horridohobbies
    @horridohobbies 3 года назад +3

    The reason the base engine is so popular is not only because of the price. The base engine gives better fuel economy, and in this day and age, that's a big deal. We need to be more environmentally conscious. We need to be less selfish.
    Moreover, 261 horses (Q5) are a *lot* of power. That's much more than the 225 hp in my 1999 Acura 3.2TL, and at that time, this car was a monster. If 261 hp is not enough, there's something wrong.

    Q5 is the safest choice in this segment. But they are just too common on the road. As much as I love Q5's overall package, GV70 is a delightful surprise in this class. If I am going to lease, Q5 is definitely the one to beat. When Genesis's reputation has been proven in the used market with high residual value, first 3 years of lease then buyout would be perfect for GV70. And Genesis products. If I have to pay cash for high resale value and rock solid reliability, Japanese rivals Acura RDX and Lexus NX are the ones to beat.

    One thing Zack points out in the video, and I think it's definitely a factor that some people ignore: Even though German cars depreciate a lot but Genesis as a new brand with not much luxury brand recognition, and refreshes their car looks every 2 or 3 years completely won't hold good value on the used one too (gv70 is the first-gen, but please search for like a used g80 which is at a similar MSRP price as GV70, either in US or Canada). Especially in this case, it is competing with Q5, which is probably one of the best resell value cars from Audi. As for leasing, I would definitely not go for this car since it is very likely to get a better rate from Audi or BMW on Q5 and X3. As for buying this, I think 2.5T advanced sounds the best to me - the price is not as crazy as the 3.5T, is equipped with enough features, the cabin looks nicer than many competitors.

    • @ezbacc
      @ezbacc 3 года назад

      i love Genesis and this car but youre right on the lease rates. I was comparing the Gv70 to the X3 (and yes the X3 is dated and will be refreshed soon so there are incentives right now), but the point still remains. Over a 4yr lease, you pay for an extra 10% (i think it was) of the Gv70 compared to the X3. So Genesis is obviously aware of their poor resale value and are forcing customers to eat some of that cost in their leases.

    If you compare the features closely, the SQ5 gets more expensive than the GV70 3.5T loaded unit. X3 and GLC are the same way. The top trim SQ5 needs a lot of ticked options to get to same feature level - the Dynamic package for example isn't included and it's a hefty $3750. Heads up display is $1100. The GV70 comes with the differential and the HUD in the top trim already for comparison. Basically, the Germans don't include a fair bit of options on the top trims, so you always pay for them and it reflects in the true apples to apples comparison.

    • @Emet30
      @Emet30 Год назад

      This. The one thing I noticed with this comparison is that it's not a true apples to apples comparison, at least in the US. Fully loaded comparison you're looking at or over $70k US.

    I have a 2021 Audi Q5 Premium Plus with Tech package, warm weather package, and 20" wheels. I think it is the best all rounder. When test driving the BMW X3 I found it drove just fine but actually cost more when you get the options to match the Q5. It also had less luggage space. I also drove the Mecan. Base model has exactly the same engine and a very similar drive train as the Q5. However, we thought it was very stiff riding, got low fuel economy and cost $10K more than the Q5. After 33K miles I do not regret my decision and really love the Q5. BTW on the Freeway I get 30mpg on a regular basis!

    It’s like European fashion and Korean fashion.
    Audi looks like a guy that likes to be simple yet gentle. Doesn’t try too hard to dress and has that simple yet manly aesthetic to himself.
    Where as Genesis, is like the Asian fashion industry where they love their iconic gentle fashion but puts a stylish twist to them. Very chic and pleasing to the eyes. You can’t help but love their sense of style and how they present themselves.
    I lean more towards the Genesis. I Love Audi but I like a bit of flare in my style. Accessories here and there. But as for Audi, even though the fashion is great and will always be a viable manly look, it is boring. It’s sophisticated. Which isn’t bad but personally I want to stand out.
