- Reversed cards are not negative, as some readers believe. In fact, all of the fives in the tarot are more positive when upside down. The Devil card, the Tower and the nine and ten of Swords are also better when reversed. In this video, tarot author Paul Fenton-Smith explains the benefits of using both reversed and upright cards in tarot readings.
Reading with upright and reversed cards in the deck allows for shades of grey in life, resulting in more nuanced readings. Reversed cards can be more precise with their answers to Yes / No questions too.
Reversed cards can signify those times when there are delays with a project, or they point to the fact that you have too much on your plate right now and have to drop or complete a task, before you have room to explore new avenues.
Clients are frequently more comfortable with readers who read both upright and reversed cards. This is especially so if the reader doesn’t add another card every time they see a reversed card in a layout.
The more readings you give, the better you’ll understand the meanings of every card, upright or reversed.
