6:20 I mean, his "history of Gang violence in the UK" is some what accurate, at least when it comes specifically to Yardie gangs, but it ignores a LONG history of gang violence in the capital going back way before the Windrush generation ever arrived. Some of the biggest street gangs in London right now have nothing to do with the Yardie gangs either, such as the Hellbanianz. The reason London has been known as a hotbed of gang violence for centuries is because it has been a global hub. It is one of the oldest, largest port cities in the Western world and the streets have long been a battleground between different immigrant communities. There were Irish gangs, Jewish gangs, Somalian Gangs, Nigerian Gangs, Italian Gangs, Russian Gangs, Chinese Gangs, Indian Gangs, Balkan Gangs and so on. It's nothing new in London, although with the increased population it has definitely become crazier!

Growing up in South East London, I'm quite grateful. Talking about Council flats ,which is where I group up in the Bromley borough. We got very lucky with where we were placed. Because my mum was about to have me, she got priority and got a couple choices, and although the one we got was not far from areas like Croydon, it was better than what we could've got. I have 3 older siblings, I grew up with my middle brother. Who knew certain things. Even, in the 2010 ish period I used to see things when hanging around him and his friends. As a family, we were used to going to certain places like Brixton with my mum, going to the market, which isn't even there anymore.
When I started secondary he used to tell me , not to hang around certain people, not to smoke, and not look at people funny when he took me to certain areas. Although I got into alot of trouble from a young age (in school) . I automatically seemed to know there was a limit and stayed out of trouble outside of school. As I got older, left school, just from experience from mixing with the wrong people, I learned the type of people who you can be friendly with, but from a distance. I tend to get along better with people a lot older than myself. And keep my distance, bar family, from people my age group. Because I see way too many situations, of people who know this person and because of that, they're automatically involved in something they're not.
Even when I was in college years ago. When I got back, my mum would ask me why my eyes are red ,lol. And ask to see my pupils 💀, luckily had my brother to back me. Still to this day I don't smoke, never have. I'm 22 this year.
I think if you have the right people around you, it learn to think as an individual, which slot of these kids nowadays don't. You can learn alot.
I like to call in street wise.
Even when I was in school, which is a long while now, I remember they'd have the police personally havr a talk with my yr group, which is basically like what you guys call grades. They'd tell us the risk of being caught with a knife or a gun, and the minimum sentence. So yeah, not good.
Most of my family moved out of London yrs ago, they haven't looked back. I've even got an auntie and cousins in the US. Even my mum moved out not long ago, I'm planning on doing the same. I would hate to have to be monitoring my child as they're growing up, to keep them out of trouble.

  • @HAIRHOLIC_1

I’m from Switzerland and moved to London in 2006, back in those days IT WAS SCARY MAN !! Gangs would literally stop random civilians on the streets and just ask them their post code, if you gave the wrong post code you where done!! just like that!! I was so afraid because obviously I wasn’t even from there like, what do I have to do with all this man 😂. It got so bad that the government had to get involved, they threw down many council houses to stop the crime and the gangs gatherings. But all of this was only outside central London. The thing about these Gang wars is that none of them are safe to go out and about, they all stay pretty much confined in their areas, even their family members could get caught in the wrong area. So at least central London was and is safe. I used to go out at night by myself, took the night bus many times and I have never encountered any issues. At one point I was also living in Harlesden which is a run down “ghetto” area, it was also a very dangerous back in those days. The gang members of that area used to literally hangout outside my house. They never bothered me, because they knew I lived there so I was safe. They even saw me coming and going alone at night and still nobody ever bothered me, it’s pretty much between themselves. If you’re not part of a gang or have any family members that are part of gangs you’re safe, there might just be the risk of being a causality but that is very rare too. Overall London is actually a very safe city, what I did in London like going out at night as a female by myself, with public transport, I can’t really do it for instance in Paris or Milan, so in that regard is much safer. Of course if you go to the outskirts it’s another different story. One needs to be streets smart whenever he goes and that applies to everywhere.

back in 2000's it was way worse as a normal civilian/citizen walking around london. Now gang crime is way worse but just between each other instead of targeting everyone and anyone. Although mopeds thieves are a different breed. Its always been a crazy city as someone who was born here in the early 90's. It's just crazy in a whole new way now.

According to the law over here in England, under section 19 of the firearms act 1968 carrying a firearm in a public place can get you a maximum of 7 years in prison. On the other hand there is section 16 which is similar to section 19 but possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life this has a sentence range of 4-22 years in jail.

Also, on the gun thing- certain people can access them and sell them without caring, and certain people have the connection to buy them and use them without caring. It's like anything really- if you have the connection you can pretty much do or get anything. And if you have no fear about getting caught well then there you go. One more thing, a lot of the gun crime in England is committed with ancient guns. Like WWII revolvers or old farming shotguns that people have turned into sawn-offs. It usually isn't something like a Glock, a Mac-10 or a Tech-9.
Edit: and of course the video just mentioned this as soon as I posted 😣😂

Same rules as any city, don't go hanging around areas you don't belong, like peoples estates. They are peoples homes, so they don't want randoms hanging around. Don't flaunt your wealth and basically be streetwise. You will be fine.
Oh, also there have been gangs for a lot longer than the 50's 😁 Look at any Dickens novel and he mentions cut throats and gangs of thieves. They've always been there.

Its a 5 year mandatory minimum for possession of a firearm unless you can prove you didnt conspire to use it on someone or sell it. So about 75% of people who get caught with guns get the 5 year minimum, and about 50% of those people get extra charges like conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm which could add an extra 5-10 years. A lot of people only serve half their sentence though so it varies a lot. If you get caught with a gun youre realistically looking at 2 year sentence, do 1 year (best case scenario), 5 year sentence, do 3 (most situations) or 15 year sentence, do 8 (worst case scenario).

If you are interested in different gang culture across the globe…check out New Zealand and The Mighty Mongrel Mob. It’s weird how the world thinks london is rich and a lavish place because London has always had severe poverty. Think into the 1800s it was a high density population with bad illnesses spreading and lots of crime. It hasn’t changed it’s just the queen is so famous😂she brings this misconception. Also all the big actors from london that are in US films are from rich areas in London like Kingston and whatnot

Most of the ACG/Y.ACG members are from areas like north woolwich(E16) Canning Town(E16) beckton(E6) and East Ham(E6)
only a small minority were from Dagenham and that’s bc they either A) Went school in newham and mixed in with the gang members there or B) they were originally from newham and got moved out due to their block getting demolished ie gentrification, the same could be said for the north side
Barking & Dagenham have their own politics n shit kicking off over there too tbh
Also the PRU’s/behaviour unit schools plays a huge part aswell. U got youts from all different blocks mixing with each other bc the councils have 0 regard for student affiliations or locations which would make perfect conditions for recruitment
