There's always at least one line in any Poets of the Fall song that absolutely kills me. "If I soar without grace, do I still soar?" Saaresto is such a great lyricist too.
I don't really like that line at all. Didn't sit right. Probably because it didn't really rhyme, or make much sense, or flow very well.....
@@BigFry9591 It doesn't rhyme in the way we're used to hearing but it does have prosodic flow.
When there's no love in my embrace
Cold blood runs through my veins
If I soar without grace
Do I still soar?
In comparison to "If I soar without grace," which *does* rhyme, "Do I still soar?" not rhyming emphasizes the contrast and makes me notice it more than if it had rhymed.
Anyway, I interpret it as calling into doubt whether or not an action has substance as well as form if done for the wrong reasons. Kinda like how Socrates differentiated between knacks and crafts: Because cooking is done for health and nourishment as well as palatal pleasure, he considered it to be a craft. *Except* if it was something like pastries, which are baked and consumed mainly because people like sweets. For Socrates, that kind of skill was a knack rather than craft.
If he has all the appearance of soaring but without virtuous motivation or any of the internal graceful feelings that flying should produce, is it soaring or is it something else we haven't made a word for yet? Is it skill or is it a knack?
It's also a metaphor echoing the previous two lines: "When there's no love in my embrace, cold blood runs through my veins." Is the appearance of soaring sufficient to define that kind of flying as soaring? Is the appearance of love sufficient to define that kind of embrace as love?
That's my take.
@@ImberNoctis That does not change the fact that it interrupts the flow, and takes you out of any mood the song puts you into. Yes, it stands out, but it stands out like 2 people colliding into each other. Yes, it stands out from the monotonous everyday life we live. But, it hurts in the end.
I suppose this is all subjective. Though, looking back on how Marko has made his lyrics in the past; having this moment not flow, when his words usually do flow, is objectively playing to the weakest point in his lyrical genius.
@@BigFry9591 If you say so.
Yaayyy, I was waiting for another POTF video rewiew 😍😍😍
Marko's vocal tone is so unique. I love it❤️. Good song👍. Thank you!
Hahaa you are now a fan, you actually went and bought the albums 😍 Welcome to the club. Such a shame that more people don't know the band, just because they are missing out on so much. It's easier for me as they are from my country (and I get to see them live 1-3 times a year) 😆
Well, after I first listened to them I knew I had to hear more... Sadly my local record store didn't stock any of their albums... But I had to have them...
All because of Carnival of rust, which is still my favourite track.
I'd love to see them live, I've seen many live videos and his voice is just as incredible as in CD... A rare thing these days.
@@MetalHeadReacts Yeah, that's the crazy thing about them. They are actually even better live!? So professional and at the same time one can see that they really love what they do! The arragements and presence - outstanding. Plus I like that they mostly play on clubs for a few hundres people, so it is kind of an intimate atmosphere. Nice dudes too, talked once with the main guitarist. And they sell personal video messages, I got one for my birthday as a gift 😂
Carnival of Rust is my favourite too, I loved is as a kid when I saw the music video on TV and in 2016 as an adult I bumped into it on youtube and very quickly was through the discography and tickets in hand for a show 😂
Cradled in Love and Moonlight Kissed please. Both very amazing tracks that show off Marko's vocal range.
Especially the live version of Cradled In Love, since you can actually see that there is no editing trickery going on.
If you want to hear him singing songs not from their album , I mean song from videogames try listening to Take Control, Poets and the Muse, Balance slays the Demon from the pseudonym band 'Old God of Asgard'. Has a totally different feel but with the same magical voice of his.
Talking of Bond Themes they Did a Cover of The Casino Royale Theme and It's Awesome, Someone has Already Sent a link to That in the Comments Here.
The discussion about them doing a James Bond song - they have actually covered Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" from Casino Royale: ruclips.net/video/vcjZZIRRBNA/видео.html
I've also heard people wanting Marko to play the Joker.
Also, here's their cover layered over the actual opening for the movie: ruclips.net/video/jxnGJP3Kdgg/видео.html
one of my faves👌🏻
Not a fan of their newer stuff, but this is one of the gems from the recent albums.
A couple of songs by them you may have missed: The Beautiful Ones. And everything they published as Old Gods of Asgard
I'm familiar with old gods of Asgard... However not heard of beautiful ones
@@MetalHeadReacts Beautiful Ones is a VERY secret song by them. It's on no albums, from no games, and is never talked about. In fact, I think the only recording is just a simple live recording, no editing. Still sounds amazing, though.
@@MetalHeadReacts This is the complete version of it. (Some uploads leave out a piece) ruclips.net/video/llQgHSHrZe0/видео.html
Listen to the Alexander Theater sessions... All acoustic, simple and stripped down.
I'd love to see you react to the "most important rock band in Finland at the moment", Ursus Factory!
They are a garage rock duo and have released recently some of their songs re-written in English but I prefer their native Finnish songs, since they seem to be conveying more raw and pure emotion.
I recommend a song called "Eksistentiaalinen biisi" or "Tähdistöön" or "Yhdessä". Or if you'd prefer to listen to a Finnish and English version of the same song back to back then maybe the pairings of either
a) "Sydän on suuri" and "A Great Heart"
OR
b) "Oot pomo" and "Pomo the Master"
Unfortunately, not all of those songs have official music videos. And even if you don't make a video of listening to their music, I'd still recommend to check them out! 😍
If you need translations or context to their Finnish songs, I can provide you with some. 🙂
I will certainly give it a look. Thank you.
