How thrilling to watch this! It is such a delight to have this history of the Cathedral's organ presented by John Bertalot who was 'instrumental' in the wonderful creation that perfectly matched the architecture and liturgy of that glorious building.

I remember seeing that cheque sellotaped to the desk in the offices. Every Monday night a group of musicians met at John's flat in St. Mary's House where he would give us talks on music. One night he took us into the Cathedral as the Cybalstern had arrived to be fitted, it was just on the altar steps but wired in temporarily. What a treat ! Many young musicians like myself owe a debt to JB and I also had lessons from Ronald Frost and mainly with Keith Bond at the Cathedral on a Thursday before we sang Evensong. I once played the Cathedral organ with Blackburn Concert Orchestra performing the Albinoni Concerto. I am still an organist at 70 (JB is in his 90s!) in the town having been organist at nearly every church over the years. I have been organist at St. Alban's RC for this last 20 years. Thanks John Bertalot for your inspiration. ruclips.net/video/VjIA_tXshqA/видео.html

I recall Dr John giving the after dinner speech to the local organ association, near York in the 1970's. A memorable and hilarious presentation about the goings on in the organ loft over the centuries at some of our great cathedrals. What a great guy.
