No one ever mentions what the laser actually does. Is it merely to make it easier to point the detector? If so that seems easy enough to say so why does no one ever SAY THAT?
I understand the Plank curve, blackbody radiators, and general physics. What I don't understand is how an infrared thermometer can measure the temperature of a wall 50 feet away, and look through air that's at the same temperature to do it.
