Thanks for the tips 👍🏼
Thank you very much for your kind words, they are greatly appreciated. Alan used to mow our back lawn and is now doing rather well! These vents can easily look a bit tatty over time, so glad you were able to gloss em up :-)
HatBoyHarvey haha no way that’s great mate can’t believe he mowed your lawn thats funny, yes he’s done alright hasn’t he 😂😂 you sound very similar. Thanks for the great vids, I do love these cars
Hi harvey, how did the bulbs last? Just about to buy them myself and thought id ask knowing your video was 3 years ago. Some say they don't last as long. bit concerning as i still have the factory bulbs which have lasted years. many thanks.
Of course it is posible, but at the moment they have to be E marked and I haven't seen any that are. I expect this to change at some time as newer cars have these fitting as standard. I think the issues are not just the lamp as it is the reflectors in the light unit that need to work correctly with these. The beams, intensity and colour temperature all need to be factored in to be safe. Headlights that are too bright can dazzle and cause accidents so it is not worth doing IMHO. Fitting side light led's only illuminate the car to be noticed so you can probably get away with these if they are (still ned to be E marked) not too bright, not blue and the right temperature.
@@HatBoyHarvey Thanks! For many years I used Osram Siverstar H7 v2. Very good bulbs, bright and reliable. I ask becauseI want to change with LEDs. I was interested in three things: 1) if the space inside the headlight is spacious enough to mount the LED. 2) if there is good ventilation and the bulbs do not overheat 3) if they are legal. I partially understood how it is with LEDs. I don't think they should be fitted to this type of car. Am I right or not?
Hi, sounds like you either live in a humid climate or the seals on the rear aren't doing their job properly. I will have a think on how best to clean the units out, thanks :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey Hi have you done a vid on glass units refurbishment methods that I have missed, links to source the bulbs would help to. Previously asked about sources for M8 nutserts and bolts replacements for door cards, can you recommend somewhere that you trust? You are still the best H with a rabbit!Cheers
I would have another look at it later, maybe you inserted it the wrong way round. If it is loose it may not give the correct beam angle and dazzle other drivers. I know they are a little bit of a fiddle and upside down to look at, but perfection is a virtue not to be sniffed at my friend. Hope you see the light and shine brighter along the road now to Fabia fantasia :-)
Thanks for the offer, but I'll say no for now. Maybe post some video of your car on your channel highlighting the issues with it and I maybe able to offer some advice. Does it run?
Hi Harvey, have you got any clue, if there is some kind of automatic headlights adjustment, in 2001/2 Fabia TDI Elegance (HB model)? I've noticed, that sometimes, while driveing at night, trough wriggly, one way road, lights switch, very fast, off/on, and it seems to me, like an change of focus? Rarely, but it happens, with normal, and "long"lights...
There is usually an adjustment wheel on the side of the dash ext to the instrument dimmer. As for an automatic system maybe you have exenon headlights. Some later Skodas headlights do move around corners :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey Thanks Harvey, will check that, but no xenon lights! Maybe it is only some sensitive connection, due to humidity, but... ...I returned with a car, to that place, where it happened, and i t happened again! It was a downhill part of the road! Thanks again, best regards!
Hi there you mentioned an led indicator bulb Just wondered which one you would recommend? I may as well buy all the bulbs at them same time. And would upgraded bulbs for the rear make any difference?? Cheers
The issue with the rear lights is safety. lights have to have the same red/orange intensity, which means when you will loose colour simply putting in a brighter lamp turning it pale. This will effect following vehicles safety. This is the same for indicator lamps; drivers may not notice you indicating and crash into you. For sure you could change to LED, but you need ones that closely mimic the original colour or enhance it without loosing intensity or over-doing it and blinding vehicles. Because there is a whole array of manufacturers selling these without knowing which ones would meet a good standard or not I haven't wasted any money yet. I'd be happy to review some of these for the channel if a manufacturer sent me some.
OEM xenon lights were fitted to a number of fabias so If I was fitting xenon lights I would look out for a breakers car that had these and use the parts as you need more than just the lamps to be safe and legal. Xenon lights will seriously dazzle oncoming cars and cause accidents if not fitted with the correct reflector unit and axle level sensors.
Good question, to which you will find 'many a different' opinions. All Lights must be E marked for approval, which rules out most aftermarket retro-fit LED lamps so technically you shouldn't use them. Is is important to note that if brighter lamps are used in particular for headlights that are not type approved which would include the reflector surround within the headlight they could become dangerous by dazzling oncoming traffic (not all beam pattern are the same) and cause an accident. Most new cars have led headlights now, but these have been engineered to meet strict standards of safety, but we all know what that means when in my opinion these new lights ARE brighter, whiter and do dazzle, at least me! If you do go down this route it would be wise to find lamps that are E marked, not blue tinted, have a good acceptable white colour and not overboard on brightness. That way you shouldn't attract too much unwanted attention.;-)
In recent time I just have an idea to buy/change my Osram standard H7 front bulbs for some blue-white light, called smth like Xenon look or Cool blue, do you have any opinion/experience about this?? Someone says that these standard yellow light has a better contrast during night and rain?! 🤔 ...and if you can make one video how to change the bulb for plates?
The most modern cars have abandoned standard lighting and gone for brightest LED's, but colour balanced to get daylight white. That is the theory, but I've seen new cars with blueish tint to them so it is a fine line to get right. I wouldn't go for blueish lights as the cops need these to stand out. As for better contrast: I would say that LED's can best offer this with daylight temperature corrected lamps. If you replace plate-lights for very bright led's be careful as the cops see it as evading numberplate cameras :-)
Thanks. I believe the extreme vision and nightbreaker are 3700K for the H7 and H3. The higher the colour temperature the bluer the light. These are pretty white in colour, but there are some with a cooler light colour. Anything above 5000K will have a blue tint to them, hope this heps :-)
