- Vaastav opens with a family performing the funeral rites of a person on a beach. When the young son of the deceased asks his grandmother all about the deceased, she begins to narrate the story.
As the film opens, Raghunath Namdev Shivalkar or "Raghu" and his best friend Dedh Footiya (literally meaning "One and a half feet tall" in Hindi) struggle to find work in Mumbai. Raghu lives in a Mumbai Chawl with his retired father , mother and a graduate but unemployed brother. They decide to run a pav bhaji stall. But Raghu and Dedh Footiya accidentally kill a customer who turns out to be the brother of a notorious gangster, Fracture Bandya . Now on the run, the two of them soon kill Fracture Bandya and his men also, when the latter tries to find them and kill them both treacherously by arranging a meeting through Suleiman Bhai, a middle man in the Mumbai underworld. Raghu and Dedh Footiya now end up in the Mumbai underworld.

Why is no one talking about the smile on Sanjay's face when his mother points the gun at him. Acting peaked there ! That smile right there showed how desperate he was to get out of the life that he lived. At the end, money, power and nothing else mattered. He just wanted to sleep. An absolute master piece this movie ❤

This movie along with Satya truely showed how Mumbai Underworld in 90s used to be. Now not even single Bollywood movie has given a better Dahihandi song. Vaastav puts so many Marathi actors in lime light.
So true vaibhav. Many more tho. Satya was also an excellently made film like this one and everybody acted extraordinarily. But both were equally and highly sad and disturbing. The beginning as to their entry into the world of crime, the various unfair hows and whys of that and the end when the police are closing in on them and get killed in such helpless tragic ways.

this movie was done in a hurry seeing Satyas fame, Mahesh finished it in 6months time.
Satya no doubt was a superhit film & Mahesh Manjrekar copied few scenes altering them to look different in Vastav for ex:
Satya & Biku met in jail then Satya became gangster
here Raghu & Dedhfootya meet Vithalkanya became gangster
Satya loved Urmila who was a aspiring singer wanted to marry her
Raghu sleeps wit a prostitute & starts loving her maries her wit a kid.
Satya takes revenge of Biku & others by killing minister Bhau
Raghu also takes revenge of dedhfootya & his gang by killing minister Babanrao
Satya is finally killed in encounter
Raghu surenders b4 his mother & killed by her
both movies show that crime never pays🙏
the only common face in both films was Paresh Rawal who was police commissioner Amod in Satya & here mandoli badshah Suleiman in Vastav🙏💐
