Ohhhh, I'm so disappointed for you about your beautiful Christmas dress! And after everything it put you through! At least you got to wear it on the day and have a lovely little video to remember it by. (I'm sure someday the silk velvet trauma will fade and you can look back on the whole thing without twitching! 😅) Also absolutely love your jumpsuit mashup. Looks so good on you, and comfy! 💙
You sure were busy leading into the holidays! All the making you did in the kitchen and the sewing room, plus the daily Vlogs. Thanks for sharing your time with us. I recommend that you take a peek at the Matchy Matchy patterns for your scrappy top. They have 3 options that might work with the pieces you have. I have made the collage top and recess pants and was happy with both. I feel sad about your Christmas dress. Funny how invested I got in your project. Glad you got to enjoy it for the day and you found 2 winner patterns in your search for what to make with that fabric.
Nooooooo! A Christmas Day velvet dress calamity, after all that work... 😧 At least it made it through the day, and it did look spectacular in the footage you managed to get. I'm sure you can salvage it in some way, but definitely put it away for quite some time before even thinking about a fix or refashion. You've earned a good break from it. I can't believe you almost left out your jumpsuit mash up! It might be one of my favourite things you've ever made. It looks so fantastic on you.
Oh no , your pretty dress😢 I'm so sorry, glad you got to feel beautiful at Christmas! Love your Kantha jacket too! I love the cameron pattern! Splendid 18 sounds like you enjoyed them!
Thank you for the catch up Teresa, you kept me company while crocheting. So sorry to hear what happened to your dress. If you decide to cut it up, and have any unusable pieces, I would gladly buy some from you for doll clothes.
I’m so sorry about your Christmas dress! All that thought, work and sore hands. How about making Christmas ornaments, pillows, or stockings for this Christmas this year? Maybe you can cut out shapes and fabric glue to attach another fabric to the back. You did fantastic on your list of 24! I thought you walked a bunch during Vlogmas!!! You mentioned that you wanted to Block Print in 2025. I’m taking a free, one-week class right now in pattern making for fabric prints. They also have a section on block print in their repertoire, but I haven’t looked into that yet. If you’re interested, I’d be glad to share the info. The class will be done on Wednesday the 15th, but replays are available for 30 days, and I find that’s the best way to do the work! It appears from comments that almost everyone agrees. Thank you for sharing your year with us!
I am so sorry about your Christmas dress. I truly loved your vlogmas videos. I look forward to your 2025 videos. I have been thinking about doing a 25 for 2025 - just need to make time to get them on paper.
Your colourful print dress looks amazing, love that fabric. I’ve had this problem with a dress before, this is how I got around it. It’s a very busy print so everyone will think it’s a design feature. Hopefully you have some fabric still left, make side panels from under the arm down to the waist . Make triangle pieces to fit underarm sleeve and top of the skirt part. This will give you More room. I’m not very good at explaining this sorry, hope you can understand lol. ❤
Re Goldhawk Road - completely agree. I have found one shop which always delivers but I have had very mixed results elsewhere in the other shops. So I still go to G road but only to my one shop!
Totally love that aubergine dress - and also the top that came after. Silk velvet sounds like quite a learning curve. Nicole Rudolph has just posted a video about how standard sizes have disconnected us from awareness of quality. We used to choose the fabrics and then employ a seamstress to fit them to our bodies. Fabrics would be passed on through generations. Now we are lucky if they last a year or two. Some only last a season… perhaps just a night. I know I couldn’t choose a good quality fabric from a bad one. Great video, looking forward to seeing your content this year.
the same type of thing happened with the tie dress I made from Sewing Therepy. The top was so unflattering as to be unsalvageable. I cut off the bottom and made a lovely skirt. I bit the bullet and bought more fabric and plan on making the Penelope blouse from Ellie & Mac as the top. You can't win them all (sigh). Your Christmas dress story is heart breaking. It went from a romcom to a tragedy. Evil silk velvet! Beautiful but evil. I really enjoyed your vlogmas. It was a highlight to my Christmas season.
Great recap. I understand your frustration with the pattern companies. I wish they would add more vertical reference points. I struggle a lot to find the waistline and apex. Two measurements that impact a good fit. Most patterns are designed for shorter people. If I can get the vertical measurements correct, some of the horizontal issues go away
I've had a dog rip fabric and even really luxurious velvet is a little more fragile than a quilting cotton. Suggestion: very very carefully add reinforcement on the inside with a small bit of lightweight fusible interfacing. Apply over the top either a short front waistband (keeping the lovely back bow) or attach a new tie not in the seam but over the seam and tear...maybe a little closer in. I would find something satiny or a scrap of contrast velvet. Alternately, make some sort of cami or slip dress with it because you can wear it alone or with some fabulous wrap (or a funky wrap like your throw jacket) I must admit I am biased-one of my TNT's is the free Marigold Camisole from mood -heavily hacked
Thank you for the review - always enjoy seeing what you have made. And you have persuaded me to take another look at the Sew Over It dress - I much prefer a less-bulky skirt and this looks to be in that line.btw, I think your version looks great notwithstanding your issues 😂
Oh Theresa, what a shame about that beautiful green silk dress. It looked lovely on you too. I’ve no doubt you will find a way to use the fabric as the dress can’t be fixed. Maybe a Christmas cushion or some pretty ornaments. I’m sure you’ll find a use.
You did have a very productive November and December Theresa, it’s a shame about your silk velvet dress, it is a fabric I would love to sew, I will have to be very careful about quality. Thanks for all of your hard work, Deb ❤️
Great round up Theresa! You were so busy. Sorry about your dress, that’s a bummer when something just isn’t right about a garment and your vision for it. I had a thought, what if you spray basted it to batting and then made into one side of a quilted vest? Machine sewn or hand quilted? I love the tactile quality of velvet and it could still work for a holiday outfit.
Since you like the silk velvet feel of the fabric…could you cut it open down the front and make a robe or house coat? Then you get to enjoy the fabric more and if it rips…you are at home 🤷🏻♀️😂 so sorry about the quality of the fabric..bummer. You looked beautiful in it!!
I’m so sorry your Christmas dress tore. You did look beautiful and the color is stunning. If you can’t salvage a garment, would it work for throw pillows?
If you really like the feel of the silk velvet on your skin, maybe a simple robe to wear? A topper or for home. Like the Sylvia robe

Leftover Kantha quilt could make a cool bag of some sort. Or a little waistcoat if you have enough fabric.

The Christmas ornament looks like a peach.

Loved your vlog mas , enjoyed viewing what you were up to.
Those little tree stockings are too cute!! I love the work you did on the hand stitched quilt jacket! 💗

What a great attitude toward your yearly list and sewing difficulties. Topi are a great example and inspiration, Theresa! Happy new year 2025!
So sorry about your green dress. It’s so beautiful. Could you sew yourself a cushion cover with a bow on it? That way you get the tactile enjoyment.

I really don't think that you need 2 size bigger with your Florence dress. It would be too big then. What you really need a full bust adjustment.
Put a knit side panel down the side and sleeve of the too tight dress?
some lovely makes: shame about the Christmas dress. How about interlining the fabric (to strengthen it) and making a waistcoat
On the donut recipe, have you considered halving or quartering it or freezing some?
A year or so ago did you do an embroidered coral reef in a hoop, embellished with beads? If you did, did you finish it? Who sold the kit? Thanks :0)
