You are so much more lively in your videos lately, maybe more confident and relaxed. Anyway, it's a pleasure to watch your videos and I cannot wait for your colourwork tutorial. I've been postponing learning how to knit colourwork and if there's anything that can motivate me to do so and make it look less scary, that's definitely a tutorial made by you. Thank you in advance for that!
I love videos that include the host knitting 🧶. It fascinates me and I love to try new ways , `Florence please do a video with you knitting, especially with colourwork that would fabulous. ❤
I am so honored and happy that you like the Margrethe Mittens - Winter Edition! I really like your ribbing details. What a beautiful version 😍 Great idea with the three color work hack! I hope your friend likes them and maybe you’ll just have to knit another beautiful pair for yourself! You pronounced “Knitlidt” perfectly 😉
This whole video I kept thinking that I must be brave and try out a colourwork jumper and now finding out you'll be doing a colourwork tutorial and I am ridiculously excited!! I can't wait!
Just to add to what everyone is saying… thank you! Excited about your upcoming color work tutorial. Thanks to your other tutorials I have gained so much confidence and made things I probably still would just be wishing I could do, if not for you. You share your skill and knowledge in such a genuine and concise way. Our community is so very lucky to have you!
So excited for your color work tutorial!! Your step by step sweater was my first finished garment and it was so incredibly helpful having each step filmed and explained in detail!
So I casted on my first colourwork project ever to knit while watching your video, then quickly noped and had to frog everything after the first 6 rows. Can't wait for your colourwork tutorial, I love how you explain things and I apparently need one desperately.
Happy new year, Florence. I have decided 2025 will be the year I knit my first colourwork jumper so I am very excited by the prospect of your tutorial. Can’t wait. ❤❤😊😊
Loved this episode. I can’t wait for the colour work sweater tutorial- I was one of the people who said colour work when you asked us on Instagram what we’d be interested in!
i was just telling a coworker today that i couldn't wait to get home, cozy-up in bed, & watch this podcast -- i've been saving it all week. & i was talking about those mittens you made a year ago & how wonderful they are. you've inspired me to take a chance on making them -- but i want to hold off until you release your colorwork video. so excited! also, loveLOVElove your earrings. 😻😻😻😻😻 5/5
the navy blue in the sweater you're wearing is definitely your color! i've actually never noticed your eye color before, but the navy blue complements it so well and brought it out! :o)
Welcome back! I love hearing you speak about your current knitting obsessions. Secretly hoping you'd manifest your love for colour work mittens into a pattern of your own! I recently finished your Mountain Walk Chunky (wearing them right now) and it's my favourite sock to wear ever! Thank you so much for sharing.
I just can’t wait for the colour work tutorial!! I made my first ever jumper following your tutorial, but it’s all I’ve made lol so far I have about 8 now 😂 so I need a change 😊
You have such a great talent finding amazing Selbu mitten patterns! I have looked through Ravelry so much but I can't find the same beautiful ones as you so I have to wait for another one of your episodes so I know which pattern to knit next hahaha
Your post about going back and changing the length of something encouraged me to fix a cardi that really needed to be longer! Thank you, it was worth it 😂
You inspired me to try colorwork mittens and I adore the ones I’ve finished. I also added a Latvian braid because I love the way they look on yours. It was so easy and a fun new skill to learn. I’ll be adding them to everything now. Thank you!
Terrific episode, so fun and fabulous knitting! More colorwork in 2025 is on my list, as well, so excited for your tutorial. Btw I highly recommend ladder back jacquard as a great technique to use instead of repeatedly trapping long floats. Well done, thanks 😊
Happy New Year from Canada! Beautiful knits, I especially love the WIP jumper, Northern Augustins No. 1 and can’t wait to see the finished piece. Oh and mittens make me so happy too! The Nordic floral looking ones you’re gifting your friend are to die for! Happy knitting from Rhonda @knitsbykeyknits
Yey, thanks for a new video! This was perfect for a little knitting session after my lecture🥰 Love your projects! I got yarn for the Northern Augustins No. 4 for my birthday (soft rose and dark red) and after hearing your comments about catching floats I thought about trying ladderback jaquard for the colourwork. Let's see it it will work out! I'm also very excited to see your colourwork jumper design, what a great addition to your RUclips tutorials and how valuable for getting into colourwork! I would have loved that a few months ago when I first started with colourwork.
Regarding the Northern Augustins No. 4, you might like to try ladderback jacquard to manage long floats. It basically creates a double knit backing to carry your yarn across. The backing doesn’t show through like with catching floats. It seems arduous at first, but you quickly become very adept at the process. I’m definitely going to use LBJ when I knit this.
I'm just putting the finishing touches to my first ever fairisle garment, the Wild Rose Vest by Mary Ann Stephens and i bloody love it. Did steeks for the first time, yay. I am all about the colour work too. Next on the needles for me is the Alcott Vest by Mary Henderson. The colours used are stunning 😊
Wonderful makes as always ❤ I like to have knit themes sometimes, for instance I knit in autumn colours in the autumn, also had a shawl period where I studied different constructions. And of course Christmas knitting for Christmas. Maybe I will put beige knitwear on my list 🤔🧐 as I only have a couple! ❤
I've been the opposite - going from colourwork/cables to plain/neutrals. But I'm a lot older than you and been through many phases (including Intarisia in the 80s), so now I think I am just adding balance to the knits. Lots of colourwork still happening, just less outrageous!
Like many others I am excited to hear that you will be doing a colorwork tutorial as that is something I have wanted to do for such a long time but have been far to scared to try!
You look so happy talking about your colourwork projects! It's a pleasure to watch. You mentioned you also like cabled projects nowadays. If you are okay with knitting bottom-up, I can recommend Michele Wang or Norah Gaughan's designs, they look amazing. I am currently knitting Stonecutter by Michele Wang.
Loved watching your podcast! Great details. You’ve inspired me to knit mittens and to knit from my books and magazines. Your earrings are stunning! May I ask where you found them?
Hello, love your videos! :) As an owner of a small business, I just wanted to add my two cents about shipping to UK - if you want to ship to UK, you have to get registered with a UK business bureau, get your VAT number, pay taxes and report your income yearly. You don't have to do that in majority of the other countries (except for Norway and few others). So it gets more complicated, especially since my accountant doesn't even speak English very well, therefore reporting to an English office is almost impossible. It's very sad, Brexit sucks. I know bigger companies can get representatives within UK for their company, but it's almost impossible for a non-English speaker or small business. And of course I'm not sure how big of a company Tukkuwool is, maybe they could afford that and it's sad they don't.
Just discovered your podcast Florence and I love watching you. Your makes are fabulous ❤ Please may I ask which needles you use for colour work jumpers and socks? 😊
for everything except socks, I use seeknit interchangeable needles for socks, I used chiaogoo fixed circular needles (because the cable is particularly good for magic loop)
Thank you for the wonderful video! You mentioned that you like to knit mittens. Have you seen the book, "Mittens From Around Norway" by Nina Grandlund Saether? I picked the book up at my local library. Happy knitting!!
You make amazing stuff! I also knit with seeknit bamboo needles, I like them much more than metal tips (im a beginner and I have trouble splitting yarn with metal tips)
I loved the pale blue and cream colourwork jumper that you highlighted in an inset photo when you were talking about northern Augustine's patterns. Could you tell me the name of the pattern please 😊
I’ve read that a lot of Scandinavian knitters don’t bother catching their floats, especially using sticky woolly wools and I’m wondering whether it was really necessary to catch them in the scalloped section of your Augustins Christmas sweater? Might be worth trying. I’ve done this up to about 9 stitches with no problems.
the floats are probably about 9 sts, but keep in mind that 9 sts at this gauge is a lot longer than 9 sts at a fingering weight or DK gauge I think it’s so long it would be difficult spreading the stitches out on your needle and tensioning the float correctly - but i’m sure some people have knitted it without catching floats!
I love the sweater you are wearing today. You are such a beautiful knitter. You are really making me want to knit some colourwork items again. Since you like the Norwegian mittens, I wonder if you have heard of Sanquhar Gloves? Sanquhar is a small town in Dumfriesshire famous for these gloves. My husband was from there. I have knitted three pairs of these gloves (about 10 years ago) which I gifted. I never made a pair for myself though, so maybe now is the time. When you order wool from Europe, do you have to pay additional customs tax/duty? I haven’t ordered anything from Europe since Brexit, because I thought it would end up being too expensive. ❤
yes, I am familiar with them! I bought a pattern for mittens inspired by them (since I don’t think I have the patience for fingers) which i’d love to make some time and knitting for olive in particular add VAT at checkout, so i’ve never had to pay when it arrives in the country
Florence...I have swatched for the Step by step cardigan and got the correct stitch gauge on 5 mm needles. However my row gauge was 26 over 4", so badly off! How do I adjust for my gauge? Thank you!!
All items you mentioned are very inspiring, and I want to knit all of them which is impossible :) is there any specific reason for ordering KFO from Denmark? I have move to UK and not so familiar with custom rules when we order from abroad❤❤
I think maybe your newfound love for colourwork and cables also comes from you learning more about the craft? Because those basic sweaters, as pretty as they are, lose some excitement, I think, once you have made a few yourself and realise it's quite easy...
Not sure about stockist(s) in the UK but Vuonue do ship to the UK if you want more of their yarns! (I also spotted a Marimekko Unikko apron at the back :") I have a tote in that pattern + colour combination too; too bad I didn't manage to get that 60th anniversary fabric for some sewing projects.)
As for the pronunciation for Laine, it means 'wave' in Finnish and I would pronounce it how it's written. You can try putting it into Google translate and press the sound button.
that’s great news!! I will try to order some for sure and thank you for the pronunciation help! I appreciate it’s a finnish magazine but since it means wool in french a lot of people were saying it’s pronounced like that! perhaps I will never know
@@handmadebyflorence Ah yeah, I'm more familiar with Finnish and Laine is a Finnish company so I've always assumed that's how it's pronounced, but what you said makes sense too. if you went back to the sweater with the bows to lengthen the sleeves I think adding a bow to just about the cuff on each side would be whimsical and cute
Dear Florence, the jumper that you are wearing is absolutely amazing! The all- stranded- design is quite difficult on its own and here the pattern also looks intricate xxx is it ok if I ask a question about your videos - could you recommend an app for video editing? oh yes I agree for sure!! it’s good for folded edges at the start of the piece but sewing looks better for folded edges at the end

It’s a little bizarre listening to a 20-yo presenting person talk about “young people” 😂
I’m definitely young (currently 24) but I guess I’m talking about teens mostly!
