O ukulele é uma adaptação do cavaquinho. Os açoreanos que emigraram para o Havai levaram o cavaquinho e lá no Havai foi criado o ukulele.

You are, obviously, not aware of the fact that the instrument internationally known as the ukulele, was brought by the Portuguese to Hawai -- where there was no tradition of European-style musical instrument making before the arrival of the Europeans, and their North American descendants. And there is nothing in the shape of a cavaquinho that suggests the influence of a balalaika!

This is a cavaquinho from Braga, Portugal. The Hawaiian ukelele is its "son". We brought this instrument there in our discoveries era. Sad that no one seems to know that and ukulele/ukelele's history.

@@pcvpserra It is quite a well-known story. A ship named the Ravencraft make the journey from Madeira to hawaii. On board, there were two cavaquinho (or braguinha) players and three furniture makers that were also craftmen able to make cavaquinho. They arrived to work in the sugar cane fields. When they arrived after their very long journey, they started celebrating and the musicians got their cavaquinho and began to play. Hawaiians never heard such an instrument and soon, many hawaiian spoke about these portugueses and their small guitars. It soon arrived to the ears of King David, who was more interested in music than in ruling his country (that was already in the hand of american businessmen). He invited one of the player to come to his palace and soon, the craftmen began to build their first hawaiian production. Of course, the wood was different (koa instead of spruce or linden) and they change the metal strings for gut strings (even if maybe the braguinhas are with non metallic strings......I don't know). You have some searchers like John King who wrote a lot about the portuguese heritage or as they say the portuguese gift to Hawaii.
