    I took the Thruxton R for a test ride - thanks to BikeBiz in Parramatta, Sydney. It only had 100km on it when I rode it. So I didn't get a chance to give it the beans. But I did get a chance to see what everyone is raving about. It was beautiful, handled very well, had fantastic brakes, a lovely sound AND it felt very light. I'm going to trade my bike in on one. Can't wait to ride it every weekend.

    I couldn't bring myself to buy the standard version knowing that there's a R version. It looks so much nicer

    This gorgeous video convinced me to follow through with my pre-order from November and trade in my Street Triple - Everything in this video is true, but the bikes are even prettier in person. They tell me I have the first Thruxton R in Oregon - I rode it off the dealer's Apr 16 - Now it's 350 miles later and I just can't believe my luck ! Fantastic quality throughout - handling and performance in buckets. My God! What a great bike!!

      Curious to hear what you think of the bike after a few weeks of riding. I took a test ride, and have been thinking about it non-stop. My intention was to buy the T120 as a more versatile and practical companion to my 72 CB750, but this thing was just way more fun. My CB has a similar stance, and I've happily taken it out on 500 mile rides. My question is how you feel about the overall comfort/potential for long rides.

    • @looseparts
      @looseparts 8 лет назад +9

      I've had the bike just under 8 weeks and now I have about 2500 miles. I'm not a long-distance traveler, but did just have a 500 mile round-trip down 101 on the Oregon coast - I'm in my 60s so comfort is a relative thing, but I am able to go tank full to tank full no problem - for me, some of the time my shoulders would start to ache a bit as the riding position is less relaxed than my previous bike ('14 Street Triple), but just using some core to lift some weight off for a few seconds was all it took to keep going. I remain in awe of the quality, looks an mostly the way the power is delivered. Coming out of a '30 mile' turn at 50 and roll on in sport mode it just takes OFF !! Fantastic bike.

      What's your opinion owning it after a year? I assume you still have it. I'm completely in love with the design of it!

    Went to the Long Beach show this weekend sponsored by Progressive Insurance..my 4th year in attendance. Fell in love with the Triumph R...97 ponies...love the partial fairing...now to get one in British racing green with just a tad of light yellow pinstripe...my only suggestion is please go back to the traditional Triumph logo on the tank...other than that, a gorgeous gorgeous bike...I hit every possible booth and found myself coming back to the Triumph booth. Cudos to the guys from Southern California Motorcycles out of Brea, CA. I must have driven them nuts with my questions but they answered, intelligently, every question I tossed out. They know their bike intimately.

    Not a bad review. I thought he could have kept his comments neater on the bike and turned off the music. I ordered an R in November when the news broke - with the track inspiration kit - delivery in April sometime and I cannot wait. This is going to be an awesome machine and yes I was tempted by the nineT but this has such class and performance...

    Looks and attention to detail is spot on. With some +25% power, +50% fuel tank volume, -10% weight, -10% price and +100% padding in the seat I would consider one.
    Triumph should have made it rev another 2000-2500 rpm and not redline sub 7K. Now it's in Honda NC750 rev territory, and beaten by the 1000 cc Africa Twin and 1200 cc Super Ténéré, Indian Scout and Victory Octane.

    Just test rode the Thruxton Non "R"...... Pretty lovely bike. Think it may be the one for more reasons than I'm getting old and don't like being crouched over on my R6 any longer. Also, I want the R model with adjustable suspension. It's a more robust machine. Sounds Great too!!!!

    A question for the young man who was the presenter of this video;
    If it were your money, would you buy the Thruxton R, or the new Hypermotard 939SP?
    I would be using the bike as a back road demon, and an around town fun bike. :-)

    Great video, but pretty much geared to the R version. Really want to know how much improved is the standard new Thruxton. I love the R but extra expense, is it worth it? Are the brakes and suspension on the standard model Thruxton good enough?

    • @volt7cooltangs701
      @volt7cooltangs701 3 года назад

      Standard version brakes are not bad at all, suspension is ok on standard, adequate I’d say. Standard looks better to me as is more retro without the garish yellow and gold suspension of the R.

  • @Omar-hm9te

      Steve Luth bought aThruxton R, 6000km later still have a huge grin on my face. My riding buddy just sold his xsr900, rode both and prefer the R. One thing to say about the xsr900, great triple engine, wheelie and stunt machine, on that it is better than the R. I will probably always have the R from now on.

    What about the size ( height ) on the driver who fits on this Thruxton 1200R?
    I was in the marked for the old Thruxton for two years ago but it didn't fit me 100% a little to small. I am 185 cm tall. Some thoughts on this subject?

    Can it beat my 1976 Triumph T140V Bonneville 750 in a cafe road race? No other machine ever has! She has won over machines even those 4 cyl Jap bikes that could do 179 mph. It's not power but rather it is handling that wins on the street. My bike is stock with a few exceptions: I removed the mufflers to get the weight down to around 365 lbs., I removed the seat cushion so I could sit lower in the machine. I changed the cruiser bars for drag bars. No other mod's. Stock engine and air intake system. Stock Dunlap K-70H Tires.
    Never crashed! Never lost! On the back roads and parkways of Long Island NY, U.S.A.
    Won every cafe race from new till 1987 when I got married and stopped riding. I raised a family. I know of no one who has done this. 10 consecutive years of winning.
    Brought her out in 1992 and raced against the new Kawasaki 1100 cc f.i. Ninja and 000 cc Honda V4 Interceptor.
    I still have my 1976 T140V Bonneville and she sits around 20 feet from me as type this. These day's I ride a new 2015 Harley-Davidson FLHP Road King Police with the spring/shock under the saddle for a really nice ride. I am considering trading this FLHP for a new Thruxton R. But the weight bothers me as it's 53 lbs heavier than my stock Bonneville at 395 lbs dry and now that I have removed the heavy mufflers and got her weight down to around 365 lbs there is and 87 lb difference, favoring my Bonneville. 87 pounds is a huge weight disadvantage on a back road where handling and fast responses is what allows for victory, not power. My bike could stop in 111 ft. from 60 mph it's in the official records.

    A future classic that will appreciate in value over the years if owners mind them. I fear though from my Thruxton R shopping (bought a mint 3,100 miles 2016 R last month) that owners are not aware or care that these bikes are heavy maintenance to keep them looking good. All those sparkly bits need plenty of TLC and ACF 50 and don't get one if you don't have a nice dry garage to store it in or have to use in in the rain.

      Gearbox is very good but a bit short in 6th. 6th gear you can use at 50 / 55 to 120mph. Lots of torque so could be taller geared but it’s not a deal breaker.

    What a beauty. Only thing I find jarring is the seam on the bottom of the tank. The Nortons dont have that and look classier for it. It is a mass produced motorcyle though so difficult not to have it. Glad Triumph have built a Thruxton with some grunt and sharp handling. Will sell like hot cakes no doubt.

    • @midas61
      @midas61 8 лет назад +1

      +John Thompson .............Its the same motor, just a different cam and higher compression. All you would probably need to do is change to the higher compression pistons and uprate the cam....

    • @johnthompson9896
      @johnthompson9896 8 лет назад +1

      It's also got a different airbox (Bigger) and a 2kg lighter crankshaft as well.

    • @midas61
      @midas61 8 лет назад

      All the lighter crank does is let it spin up faster, it will still give you the same top end power and TQ with the increase in compression and the cam...

    • @johnthompson9896
      @johnthompson9896 8 лет назад

      I also think the motor will be a good choice for the many performance shops out there after all 79hp isn't much from a 1200.

    • @midas61
      @midas61 8 лет назад

      The T120 is aimed at the more relaxed cruiser/retro type rider and I'm sure it does the job well enough for those who will buy it.

    • @london_biker6177
      @london_biker6177 8 лет назад

      +Pedro Nunes I looked into how much it would cost to insure one of these - the figures I was getting were about the same as for a H2, in other words virtually uninsurable even if money is no issue but that depends where you live. For a first bike I'd go with the street twin, or the older bonnie range.

      +London_biker617 yeah, I've been looking at the twin also. very nice and a good price below 8k pounds and if i'de like to sell later on will be much easier although that inst the plan
