Thank you... so nice to hear you like it. After 230 odd vlogs it is so hard to choose music that doesn’t get repetitive and has the appropriate licence!
As a change of pace I'd like a vlog with you guys easing down a canal with only the sounds of nature...the birds, wind, water, tic of the engine and the two of you chatting in the background. It would give us a chance to ride along with you as if we were a part of your crew. Don't get me wrong, I very much enjoy your shows, and thanks.
Part of the reason we don’t do that is the engine doesn’t so much tick as rumble and a conversation is very hard to record on the back even with the microphones. It’s also why I can’t hear people yelling at me from the shore. It’s much quieter up front, and we do incorporate a clip from time to time, but a full video of it is hard to edit together in a way that’s watchable. M
Lovely vlog. The Lancaster canal originally was not connected to the network. It was self contained. So the easiest craft to use was cruisers. I myself had one moored outside my static caravan near Cabus, just outside of Garstang.........oh to have those days again........
I'll say it again because I've seen it before, in an earlier vlog, "Comfortably NUMB" is my theme song. I only remember bits and pieces of the year it came out. When I bought the movie on DVD, I was like, "I don'r remember any of this". LOL. Take care and God Bless, Paul from Florida.
I love your vlogs! So nice to see your take on bits of canal I know well. I'm one of the boat masters on Kingfisher, which is a 60passenger trip boat on the Lancaster Canal. We use the chip shop at Bilsborrow for our 'fish and chip' cruises. We turn at the winding hole just north of the chip shop, then reverse the hundred yards to their mooring/back garden. Always a few gongoozlers out to watch! P.S, thanks for the follow on insta, I was very excited when I saw that you had liked one of my posts - slowboatmarine :)
I'm informed by those in the know that the Lancaster canal is a good choice for a first canal boat holiday, mainly because there are no locks, but also because of its character. From this vlog, that would seem to be the case. Lovely background music by the way.
Ah George, the scene-stealer, it's definitely all about Him! Lovely vlog, but then it is a lovely part of the world, Up North ain't too bad, is it? Take care you three
You where moored by Owd Nell's. I got drunk in there more times than I wish to remember. I was a student at the LCAH at Myerscough (now Myerscough college) for three years and that was the closest pub. Run by an Italian family then but that was in the late 1980's. Good memories. Hope you enjoyed the place as much as I used to.
I did say we may have passed somewhere! My boat is the blue cruiser, next to "Altair", at 8:26, just when Jo starts talking about the number of GRP boats on the canal (Incidentally, my boat is called "Clara Jo"!). I set off on the Monday, up towards Lancaster, so I shall keep looking out for more encounters! There is a really big weed problem on the Lanky and, particularly that week, the water was so low that I scraped the bottom a couple of times, even in the centre of the channel.
Great one guys , lovely country views . Lots and lots of Noddy boats , you must be in tourist/ avid water venturers country . Poor George missed so much marking of his territory . All the best and cheers from OZ.
You showed Jo's subway/train station version of the canal system map several times during the video; which reminds me that yesterday mine came via the US Package Service. Now I can follow along more easily. I quite like the stylized map. Thanks Jo.
I'm guessing that the GRP boats were on the Lancaster while it was cut off from the rest of the system because they were easier to launch and more suited to short cruises.
We met while traveling in Vietnam! www.amazon.co.uk/Away-Gray-Joanne-Morehouse-ebook/dp/B01GZHT3SQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1527852504&sr=1-1&keywords=Away+From+the+Gray
Guys pub is a great stop. Hope you managed to tackle their Steak and Kidney Pudding. Looking forward to the rest of your journey on the Lanky. It will not disappoint :-)
Nice day! Questions: at 8:05, what kind of bird is that? You said that there were a lot of GRP boats on the canal as you were passing some cruisers moored along the tow path. GRP? And lastly, as you were passing a marina, you introduced and finished the introduction with and cute jokers out, then I couldn’t understand the rest. Sorry, I enjoyed the video but finished with a couple of questions hanging (if you don’t mind). Thanks!
Merrylegs - gotcha. Thanks! Odd (to me) to refer to a boat by its shell materials rather than the kind of boat. Is there some drag or something that would typically mean that fiberglass would not usually be there? Or be on the canal? Or is that (GRP) a term used conversationally. English is my native language and I thought I knew boats (dad and his cruisers and fishing boats growing up and a sailor husband who taught me to crew a sailboat) but clearly I have a lot more to learn. Just curious because I cannot continue to tell the grandkids I know everything when there is a hole we just uncovered. They’ll catch me, for sure. They are all old enough that they try to stump me with every opportunity.
@@maobfh There is not really any right or wrong, or particular convention. It's just a matter of personal choice. Some people refer to them as GRP boats, others say fibreglass boats, and some people even just call them plastic boats. It is more usual, however, to refer to them simply as cruisers. It's just really to differentiate them from narrowboats, which are usually built from steel.
The GRP question’s been answered. The bird was, I believe, a Great Cormorant, based on the size and lighter colored chest, but she might have been a Common Shag as well. As for the marina, I couldn’t find us saying anything about jokers, I’m afraid, so dunno the answer to that one. M
Minimal List I appreciate both of you guys taking the time to respond to my questions. I went back and listened again. I heard it wrong. She said “and some cute dogs” playing outside. Yeah, dogs sound nothing like jokers. I can’t explain but that’s how my brain (such as it is) interpreted the input. Thanks again, both of you!
Well, there’s tattoos on both in the same location. The right is Arabic and just says 300211... which makes no sense until you read it right to left as 1/1/2003, which was a moment in my life I needed to remember. The one on the left arm is the Chinese symbols for “compassion” with a Latin phrase inscribed inside them... another especially important life lesson. Basically I’m covered in things to remember where I’ve been and the various versions of me that have happened along the way. M
@@MinimalList I have but one tattoo on my left arm that I embellished myself as a kid with a needle and some Indian ink. Originally, it was simply two letters CP the initials of my first girlfriend at the age of 15. Suffice to say the relationship was fraught and floundered quickly. I then turned the CP into a heart for which remains to this day. When people ask about the blob on my arm I say it's a birthmark. Love your videos, it's therapy to me, calm easy relaxed watching.
A refreshing change of music style. While the music in the previous vlogs was good, it's great to have something different.
Thank you... so nice to hear you like it. After 230 odd vlogs it is so hard to choose music that doesn’t get repetitive and has the appropriate licence!
@ John 259. Seconded :)

Watching this vlog. You just went past the boat we are hiring in September. Little Secret from Ducklings hire. Looking forward too it even more now.

It’s a great song, but funny how many of us forget the actual words! M
We had a GRP cruiser on the Lanc from bout '80 to '86. I wish my uncle had never sold it when he adopted us (long story), as I'd still have it now.
Lovely. I must say that I do like the Northern canals.
We do too. Jo still thinks we might move up North! M
Aw think George just stole the show, so cute. Cheers guys.
He always does! M

It’s definitely a nice, easy canal with lots of miles and no locks! M
enjoyed thanks
Thanks for enjoying! M
Beautiful sky in the closing segment.
Poor George having to ride on board all morning. Hope Michael got his chips. Looking forward to the next vlog thanks for putting them out.
I did get me chips! More coming soon! M
How wonderfully unique and special . Just driving floating at home, all around the country, dream lifestyle barely minimal.
It’s a good way to live, though come flooding season it can get a bit damp! M
Ah George, the scene-stealer, it's definitely all about Him! Lovely vlog, but then it is a lovely part of the world, Up North ain't too bad, is it? Take care you three
Not too bad at all! Shane it’s so hard to understand some t’ bloke! M
About time you changed the music. SHANE FROM VANCOUVER ISLAND.
An Italian friend of mine posed on the stern of somebody else's narrowboat at Foxton Locks, after asking of course. Nothing wierd about it at all!
Not if you ask! It’s the people that just get on and do it that are a wee bit weird! M
Love the Muppet shirt Michael. Jo my map is wonderful. It made it to Denver just fine.
Glad it arrived and that you like it! M
The Lanky is my neck of the woods, hope you enjoyed it! 🙂
Definitely did! M

Sadly I must report we didn’t actually visit Owd Nell’s... sounds like a fun place to drink till you forget it! M

"George! Quit drinking the canal!"
Probably the most random thing I'll hear today. :D
Funny, we hear it on a nearly daily basis! M
Great one guys , lovely country views . Lots and lots of Noddy boats , you must be in tourist/ avid water venturers country . Poor George missed so much marking of his territory . All the best and cheers from OZ.
It’s definitely a prime area for holiday-makers! M
George could never ruin s recording. 💖🤗😂
Ruin, no, but seriously interrupt, certainly! M
YES! I do work for chips too.
Best pay around! M

Lovely part of the UK.......Brilliant vlog music really works with the vlog....thanks for sharing
Thanks for enjoying! M
Again...another great Vlog you Two!!! Loved the Music...Thank You
Thank you! Happy to hear you liked the music as it is a little different to the usuals tunes we use!
You have the best bloopers :)
Thanks! We try to bloop well! M
I'm guessing that the GRP boats were on the Lancaster while it was cut off from the rest of the system because they were easier to launch and more suited to short cruises.
Yeah, and they’re quite inexpensive plus without locks to bang about in their relative fragility isn’t an issue. M
Best fish and chips at Galgate, 5 mins walk from canal under railway bridge.
Ooh, wish we’d known that at the time! M
Loving the vlogs. Plus I have just been reading about your silver propeller challenge in winter edition of Waterways.☺
Glad you like them! And yes, exciting times in the press! ;-) M
Omg ! George looked so funny , hope you find a chip shop open ??
I believe we did! M
The food is nice at Guys Thatched Hamlet (although I'm always a bit suspicious that if I have the duck they've just caught one off the canal)
Hmm... I suppose one benefit of being veggie is that’s never going to have happened! M
Hi guys another good vlog. George looks soooooo sad and so many plastic pigs.
He’s not so much sad as manipulative! M
Thanks for all the effort, and for being such gentle people. Isn't there somewhere a story of how you two met?
Marvin Ellerbe There”s a book, available from amazon called Away from the gray by Joanne Morehouse!

Wonderful : )
Thanks! M
Best ever Minimal List Video :0)
Thank you!
give George a smooch..... Cheers. OOOEEE... "Comfortable NUMB" ... gonna name my dingy after that, its my shore boat to mooring.
Guys pub is a great stop. Hope you managed to tackle their Steak and Kidney Pudding. Looking forward to the rest of your journey on the Lanky. It will not disappoint :-)
We failed on the steak front, we don’t eat meat! 🤣
@@MinimalList 👍
George cam vlog. Now that would be cool to have a go pro mounted on his harness.
We did one of those a while back, after coming off the Llangollen ... it’s cute, but motion-sickness inducing! M
Did you go to Greenlands Farm Village at Tewitsfield?
No, I’m not sure we realized it was there. Plus we arrived quite late and due to weather had to leave earlier than we’d hoped. M
"Captain George" is he in charge? Bless him Thank you all
More often than he should be! M

Damn, we didn't. Sad times.
The Lancaster Canal is so overgrown are they not keeping it up?
