Like, the everyday life things portrayed so aesthetically.. the dance moves which are actually authentic, the Indian men, women, old people at the wedding, the Holi celebration, the children, the white sari.. it's all so gorgeous! I don't know why people are saying this video is offensive. I, myself, as an Indian don't find this offensive. Yes, the lyrics don't make sense to the video but what do we have to do with it? If you just listened to the song there's no problem right? If you find this video so 'offensive' and 'racist', don't watch it again then. Also, it's not an insult to the Indian culture; if yes, how? Just because they showed the poverty in the start? So what? Indians, if you find this racist; you, yourself know India in at such a beautiful place in some areas right? So If anyone else is showing it or making a comment about it you shouldn't have a problem with it because if you really want to remove poverty and crap from places, don't just sit and comment, do something about it too!
The only racist people here are the ones dismissing true Indian's opinion. If Indian people say it's okay for Azalea to use Indian themes then it is fucking okay for Azalea to use Indian themes.
+Estefanía Izaguirre you're talking about an Indian here who LIVES in India and does NOT experience cultural appropriation, whereas Indians brought up in the West know what cultural appropriation is. It does not make it ok for a white girl to use our religious symbols in the name of a fucking music video.
You're an idiot. One Indian person does not make up the voice for an entire culture. She's completely destroying a culture, and religion be sexualizing it, being vulgar with cursing, talking about drugs and alcohol. One Indian person saying that it's okay makes no difference. Because one Indian person is not a whole culture.
Max Lastra You are an even bigger idiot for speaking for a culture that's not even your own. I wrote that after having contact with *several* Indian people both on and off-line and you can verify what I say just by looking at the comments in this video and paying attention to just how much her *actually Indian* extras are having fun here. It would be "destroying a culture" if this video were some kind of National Geographic documentary claiming accuracy and it only takes the minimal amount of common sense to know that this is _just entertainment_... but of course, after reading your comment I can clearly see you have none of it.
Kavya Sriram Please illuminate me on how exactly is this Cultural Appropriation? Where is she claiming to be Indian and that this is an accurate portrayal of India's traditions? I would understand if she were glamorising some marginalised and oppressed society but what she's doing is literally no different than what Bollywood does so it's not like she's spitting on India either. Don't get me wrong, I think her music is shit but I'd much rather take on the side of a person who's truly living and experiencing the culture in their everyday life than one that has been brought up to believe that everything westerners do they do to offend or make fun of other cultures.
one time in every singers life (mostly) they go through an indian phase. There is always that one song that they are dressing in sari's!!! Beyonce Colplay. Calvin Harris. Iggy Azalea Mø :)
The comment threads here are probably some of the most amusing on Internet. It's literally westerners apologizing for cultural appropriation, then Indians saying no need of apology and then westerners telling Indians why they should be offended and be seeking an apology and then Indians replying that westerners don't understand Indian culture and that there is no need for apology and then the thread devoloves into an insulating contest with westerners insulting Indians for not being offended and then Indians insulating westerners for apologizing. So keeping up with the trend I demand apology because I am offended by Westerners apologizing. Where is my apology now? :P

I hate it how this video was posted 2 years ago and everyone has to come onto the video and hate on her and call her racist. No one knows what's going on her head nor do they know the people that made this video. No one knows that she could of actually respected the Indian culture. What if Beyoncé or Jlo or Ariana grande posted this everyone probably say "such a cool video" but when Iggy does it, it's racist. Leave her alone and let her do what makes her feel confident or makes her happy. She defiantly does not deserve all this hate!
There are many Bollywood songs worser than what they show in this video... Actually this video wasn't offensive in any way, this song was literally awesome.
a few years ago when this song first came out, i thought it was extremely racist cause im indian and thought that dancing with her butt in front of the priests/cussing was inappropriate.... but the more i watch it, i remember that there was some interview that iggy had about this vid, and she said she didn't wanna be racist doing this and had been looking forward to going to india and shooting a video there. she loved the experience, the people, the celebrations, and especially the fricken boss saris!!!
Ananya Pochiraju yeah ok she didnt " want " to be racist but she still did those things and thats still highly offensive whether or not she wanted to be offensive or not. its like if someone cursed u out and hurt ur feelings and said oh well i didnt mean to hurt ur feelings so i shouldnt be held responsible
i kno. i do still think its a little inappropriate, but most people care about the song. i remember posting an extremely complaining comment sayin she was racist and this is disgraceful to all indians, and i got feedback from other indians sayin they didn't care.
i kno. it still is inappropriate, but im sure it didn't mean any harm. that's reality, and that's show business. i don't think someone would try contacting her producers complaining about this song after this long.

Is it weird that I personally loved this video?
Exactly!

White people problems 👀
Don't get me wrong, I think her music is shit but I'd much rather take on the side of a person who's truly living and experiencing the culture in their everyday life than one that has been brought up to believe that everything westerners do they do to offend or make fun of other cultures.
it's just a music video and is meant to entertain people!
we Indians don't mind it!

I love this video its so colorful and bright India has such interesting cultures and traditions. Its really beautiful.
a few years ago when this song first came out, i thought it was extremely racist cause im indian and thought that dancing with her butt in front of the priests/cussing was inappropriate.... but the more i watch it, i remember that there was some interview that iggy had about this vid, and she said she didn't wanna be racist doing this and had been looking forward to going to india and shooting a video there. she loved the experience, the people, the celebrations, and especially the fricken boss saris!!!
Ananya Pochiraju and there are tons more who do care who arent willing to sell out their beliefs for some mediocre white chick
i kno. it still is inappropriate, but im sure it didn't mean any harm. that's reality, and that's show business. i don't think someone would try contacting her producers complaining about this song after this long.

I never know how to feel about music videos like this. One side of me thinks it's cool because it's showing a side of the world that a lot of westerners/americans don't know much about and it's highlighting how cool another culture is, but the other side of me is like wow is she just using another culture to be cool? does she even know much about this culture besides the aesthetics?
