Exactly, Mitchell from Palace had a fantastic season but he was overlooked, Chillwell was decent too but his injury record was held against him in favour of Luke "sick note" Shaw.
And at the outside there was James Justin of Leicester, fantastic during his time in the PL before his injury and again last season....can also play at RB, LB and as part of a three....but he played for an unfashionable club.

In regards to Shaw. Surely they could have sent him back to St Georges park and arranged a 90 minute behind closed doors game for him to get fit. England have all the facilities at home so why not use them. They are only in Germany not on the other side of the world.
To pick Shaw now would just be putting so much pressure on him - if he made any kind of mistake or limped off injured it would invite so much scorn on Southgate

International football and club football are quite different.
International you have 3 group games win 1 lose none or draw 2 and you are through to the 2nd round. Iow win 1 in 3
2nd round do not concede practice penalties and have a keeper on the field or bench who is good at saving penalties that can take you all the way. It is about less errors good defense and some luck.
In club football win 1 in 3 and you will be battling relegation.
From a fan who wants England to win, Southgate should change the style of the England game...step up the tempo, play with intensity, don't play with back pass, side pass or too much passing to goalkeeper. This is what John Stone likes to do...play safe. Be brave and attack with forward running...show a bit more aggressive. Throw caution to the wind.

I was watching highlights of world cup 2018 last night and how different the team was and wow England actually played and wanted to score goals and goals they scored! Such a much better looking amd working team. This tournament has been awful to watch as an england fan
Grasping at Shaws. He hasn't played for ages. He, at the very least, would be classed as vulnerable ffs. We need a manager who is more confident in his squad. Attack minded would be a refreshing change.

He has had pretty favourable draws in all the tournaments. His record against the top nations isnt the best. Very defensive and cautious being the only styles of play. With the squad he has, he should be doing much better.
