As a Steelers fan and lifelong Yinzer, I respect the Baltimore team and fans. One of the greatest rivalries in sports because of the mutual respect between our two cities players, coaches, and fans. Thank you for your respect of this moment in time, looking forward to many more years of match-ups between our teams hopefully some in January's.
@Luke Skyballer It's a nod of modern day respect to the history of their current biggest rival. Sure, they could say , " Not a Steelers fan, but...." Don't take it the wrong way, it's just attempts to pay respect 🤙
RIP Franco.....we loved you as more than a player, but a great human. I remember meeting him at an Eat-n-Park in Beaver Falls PA when I was 10. He stayed until every autograph was signed. Yinzer Legend
My family moved from Italy to Canada, seeing someone with Italian haritage dominate the great american sport they instantly fell in love. Now we're 3 generations deep of Steelers & Pittsburgh fans, all thanks to Franco
My Italian side came through Ellis Island in the 20s and moved to the burg years later Pittsburgh, although I didn't grow up there, means a lot to me. I didn't live the 70s steel curtain era but I didn't need to, to know how great of a guy and what an immaculate football player he was/is. R.I.P. Franco Harris Tell my dad I say hi
I was in the same room with Franco once in 2014, never actually got to shake his hand, but I was in total awe of him just knowing he was so close by. Grew up watching the 70s Steelers and obviously he was bigger than life to me. RIP Paisano.
Finding out about Franco passing really hurt, he’s made a great impact during his time with the Steelers and I’m grateful that he was with the Steel Curtain. RIP 🖤💛
Franco Harris will be remembered as one of the greatest miracle play legends in league history! Everyone will still remember his “Immaculate Reception“ that happened a half century ago!
@@NeweraGolf And Super Bowl MVP. And most career rushing yards in the Super Bowl (partly a function of number of appearances but still). Even as a player, he's sooooooo much more than that one play. As a man, the Immaculate Reception and his football career is an interesting footnote. He did a lot for Pittsburgh. He gave back. He was a great man.
Tremendously sad news. Became a Steelers fan while watching their games on NBC. Dude was a graceful sleek runner. Smart.... Didn't take unnecessary punishment. As a kid, it was his smile on the sidelines. He was happy. Genuinely happy. Class act! Great memories of him and those dominate Steeler's team.
I was at Penn State when Franco and Lydell was the backfield. I shot poll with Lydell and his 'tutor' [who I went to high school with] and met Franco because of Lydell. The first thing I remember about Franco was his smile. Me, a nobody, and Franco treated me like I was a member of the football team smiling the whole time. So when the Steelers drafted Franco, I was over the moon because I knew Franco would be solid...little did I know how solid! I remember the Immaculate Reception like it just happened [and the controversy mostly pushed by Al Davis and 'motormouth' Madden...can you tell I didn't like the Raiders - still don't] And was I ever pissed at the Steelers in 1984 when they waivered Franco - I called the Rooney's ever name in the book. When I heard about Franco passing...a piece of my heart said bye-bye. I know Franco is now flying with his Mom and Dad. I wish Franco's Wife Dana and son "Dok" many blessings in this very trying moment. May this weekend be a celebration of greatness Franco Harris gave to the Steelers and Steeler Nation!
Even as a Ravens fan I always respected that Steel Curtain era, they were the archetype for the modern Ravens. Rest in peace Franco, damn shame he won't have his moment.
As a steelers fan I love when the moments call for it even ravens and steelers fans can come together to pay proper respects. I believe mike Tomlin once said something along the lines of "we respect them because the things were good at are the things they're good at." Truer words couldn't be spoken of the Steelers and ravens. Good to see even heated physically hard hitting rivals can show our respects for each other.
@Luke Skyballer Always give respect to what came before. Without out players like Jack Lambert I doubt we see a guy like Ray Lewis. They're very comparable in the way they played the game and the leadership qualities they provided to their teams.
@Luke Skyballer Now is not the time to disrespect anybody, give respect to Franco and his contributions to the sport regardless of what team you support. It Doesn't make you a douche if you reach across the aisle to give respect to an all time great. In fact it shows humility, even more so with the Ravens/Steelers rivalry. It's just a game but the players are real people, remember that and most importantly; respect that.
I’m to young to have witnessed him play but I grew up watching highlights and rerun games of those 70s Steelers teams he definitely was a HOF great player.
I worked at an AT&T near Pittsburgh, in Robinson mall. Franco came in one day to get a new phone. Friendly as could be to everyone. Shazier came once too, but I wasn't there :(
Franco was a class act! Heart-Wrenching that he passed away before this Saturday's 50-year celebration of the "Immaculate Reception" Where number Franco's number 32 is going to be retired. Rest in Peace Franco, you were truly loved by so many.
I met Franco Harris as a young kid at an event after the OKC bombing. He was the kindest "famous person' i ever met. Up there with Ernie Johnson. Much love Franco. RIP
Going to the game saturday. Crazy to hear this happened right before there was gonna be a big celebration. Going to be an emotional game for the franchise and city.
If Franco wasn’t injured the Steelers would have had five rings In the 70’s. The 76 team had the greatest defense in history but lost bc Franco got injured.
Never got to meet Franco. He and Rocky Bleier came to the Pentagon when I was there to give a talk. I could not go but a buddy of mine got their autographs for me. I am really upset I never got to meet him. My Uncle Sandy was in class with Franco at Penn State. Said he was the nicest man. My whole family became Steelers fans when Franco started playing for the Steelers. RIP.
If you are not from Pittsburgh, you would not understand how much he was involved in the city. My feed is filled with countless stories about restaurants he would frequent, and he would go out of his way to thank every single person working. I would see him around town all the time. This is a sad day.
My dad met him while playing a fundraiser when the Jags got the team.. he signed a drum head for him.. with Boselli and Brunell. Said he was a great guy.
Yesterday was my 48th birthday, one of my earliest childhood memories growing up in the South hills of Pittsburgh was the Pirates winning the 79 world series and the the Steelers 4th Superbowl win and me thinking this is the greatest place on earth! Still is! Franco Harris is a huge reason it was not only on the field but off of it. R.I.P.
My wife bartended at a Disney hotel in the early '90s. The Super Bowl was in Tampa that year and a lot of retired NFL players stayed at the hotel, including Franco and John Stallworth. Knowing I'm a big Steelers fan, she asked them for their autographs, which is frowned upon at Disney, but hey, that's how much she loves me. Anywho, when she looks at his autograph, she realizes his name is Franco Harris, not Frank O'Harris. No, I'm not making this up.
The Raiders were involved in two historical controversial plays that launched two separate teams into their dynasties. The first was the Steelers and the Immaculate Reception. The second team was the Patriots and the Tom Brady Tuck Rule play.
They should rename the airport after him. True Steelers legend and one of my childhood heroes. This loss hurts a lot and its going to be a rough weekend to get through without Franco being there, but rest in peace Franco. You touched a lot of lives!
The standard is the standard. Franco Harris set the standard the all steelers that followed aspire too. The world got a little dimmer yesterday. RIP to one of the best.🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛
I'm from PA in a rural area about 2hrs from the burgh we call in the heart of steelers country. Franco Harris is next to God, country and family around here when he passed you would of thought it was the president they even cut in on the radio broadcast at work that morning. He's a true PA boy and will always live on in our hearts.
Even as young Steelers fan who first really watched the Steelers serious Big Ben rookie year. It’s part of the man hood of being a fan knowing the Greats I’m glad I knew the history and they brought him back a lot! I’ll never forget watching him swing the towel at the Super Bowls!!!
Yeah, he caught it. There's a sideline camera view that didn't surface until a few years ago that clearly shows the ball didn't hit the ground. And as great a player as he was, he was a charitable tour de force in Pittsburgh. He positively affected a whole lot of lives. RIP.
The sad thing was us Yinzers couldn't watch the game live on tv because it didn't sell out 48 hours in advance. We had to listen to it on the radio. Channel 11 got to show a replay of the game at like 1am. Somebody should put out a dvd of this game.
I certainly remember Franco Harris and those battles with the Cowboys. I also remember the Steelers back then knocking the Colts out the playoffs seemed more than once. Among the big names when you think of that franchise right up there with Mean Joe Greene and Terry Bradshaw from back in the day. RIP Franco.
r.I.p Franco Harris!!! If the immaculate reception was subject to the instant replay rules of today history would be halted because we would still be waiting on replay's decision 🤣. So let's just keep this as the iconic moment that it is in NFL History.
Watching nfl network this morning one of the journalists they brought on said Franco told her the statue was only supposed to be in the airport for 6 months originally but obviously it’s lasted a bit beyond that.
What’s wild is they did not win the Super Bowl during the year he made the immaculate reception. Kinda adds up to the Vikings Minneapolis Miracle type deal
The timing of his passing is just surreal..this is inredibly sad news. Will probably be viewed by dbl the numbers everyone was expecting..im in shock.very sad
I love listening to Pat talk about Pittsburgh. He gets us because he is one of us.
