    So, just to put my skill level in perspective, im generally in the top 1% of trials elo with a 1.9 for most seasons (i started d2 at a .88) . And ive helped several of my clanmates significantly improve their kds.
    What ive learned doing that is you can usually break pvp up into 3 broad catagories. Gun skill, reaction time, and information interpretation.
    Gun skill is pretty simple, get a gun you like that's competitive and practice, it's just muscle memory, and that takes time. Some ppl adjust better than others and can adjust to a lot of guns others are better specializing in a few.
    Information interpretation is harder because it's a matter of multi-tasking and experience. My best tips here are learn the radar within an inch of its life, its as much a tool for your information as it is one to give disinformation to your opponents, and sound is your second best friend, change audio settings so you can at least hear jumps, and footsteps if you wanna take it that far. Between sound and radar, you canknow whats going on and where at almost all times.
    Reaction speed is the toughest. It's s. Combination of the first two to make the right decision as fast as possible and be able to execute. And your own personal physical reaction speed, unfortunately, while you can mitigate the reaction time with knowledge and skill, your reaction speed will be a hard limit. I have a friend who has tge knowledge and gun skill but cant process the information fast enough to react to it in real time, though he has improved substantially.
    Of course there's a hundred little things.

      @BahamutBreaker 4 месяца назад +1

      You’re pretty spot on with this analysis. Very well stated.
      I do have unfortunate news for younger gamers: reaction time increases (that’s bad) as you age, no matter how much you practice or how naturally talented you might be. This is true for how quickly one can physically respond to ANY sensory stimulus, whether it’s getting to the brakes to slow/stop your car, or moving the sticks and buttons on a video game controller.
      I suggest players focus on the second of the three key components listed by @razaiel - Information Interpretation. That skill won’t degrade as you age. Reaction time will degrade.

    @18mins, That's one of the best things I learned from watching Gold - how he just knows instantly to run from an engagement. Cut your losses and know when to quit and run, survive more fights. I realize that's part of the reason 'pros' almost never compromise 100 Recovery, and why so many people can never let go of Stompees/Transversives/Dunes. Turns out running away, and getting back in just as fast is one of the key fundamentals.
    I think I got my first few We Rans from re-wiring my brain to do that, and that's when PVP in this game reaaally clicked for me.

    • @JLM7646

      Agree, so many people go on a "mini tilt" moment and continue the push or hold and die. Knowing when to push and when to run is powerful when you combine that with map and radar awareness. I don't always drop tons of kills. Some matches less then ten...but I never pull less then a 2.0 CE and I carry currently a 2.57 Seasonal CE. It's listening to that voice that's says run and drop the pride lol.

      I'm overly aggressive in comp and trials. I can't solo flawless or win more than one or two in a row in comp or trials. Control and the other 6 man modes I dominate most of the time.

    • @BahamutBreaker
      @BahamutBreaker 4 месяца назад

      Well said. Being able to recognize - very quickly - when you’re losing a duel, and *also* being able to escape (either via abilities or just plain good positioning) is a BIG important skill that many players overlook. K/D ratio has both a numerator and a denominator. Increasing your number of kills doesn’t matter if your death rate also increases simultaneously. It isn’t as “sexy” as a kill streak, but a “staying alive” streak is just as meaningful on the battlefield. Every time you KO, you are hurting your team, even if you manage to do something positive in the process.

And then I hear you talking about playing too much pve, leveling, getting gear, etc, and how then you just feel bad at pvp until you go back to spending all your time in it. And I'm dealing with that EXACT same thing right now. Yeah I need to be reminded. That's the great thing about tips like this... Regardless of who can give what advice, the best advice I ever got was to adjust settings to turn on auto punch and shoot on, and the true centre aim adjust setting to on. The rest comes with time spent in the game mode. I only started pvping for iron banner gear literally this past week properly, I've avoided pvp for most of my destiny life as I suck at it, yet shockingly trying to get iron lord and spending hours doing it, I'm sitting around 3.0 - 3.5 each game now from about a 1.5 at best.

    4:52 Is an excellent point. Rapidly rechecking radar in the middle of a confrontation is an actual skill. It can be very uncomfortable for a player to exit ADS posture when he knows an opponent is nearby. Getting past that anxiety, allowing yourself to breathe and quickly check radar, can be a big step forward for some players’ progression in PvP.
    It’s worth noting that Bungie does give players the option to apply a mod to any legendary weapon that decreases the delay for radar returning after exiting ADS posture while holding that weapon. Yes, you have to forego other mods (Counterbalance, Targeting Adjuster, Quick Access, etc.), but for some players, trying out the radar mod can be a good crutch for getting acclimated to more frequent radar checks.

    • @leeroy2752
      @leeroy2752 Месяц назад

      @BahamutBreaker Personal growth is only to a certain extent. Once you reach your peak, if you don't want to loose to other players using the meta, play the meta, or find a way to counter them consistently. So many variables are hard to track versus skill. Did I die to this person because my gun roll was worse, because I didn't have kill clip like they did, because I have a sniper instead of a shotgun, because my build is worse, because they can see me through walls with Kucklehead.

    Yes a lot of this stuff does help in game but the most important part of being a good player is the peripherals that Diffizzle brought up. The game becomes a lot easier when you’re using the best products and have optimal ping/fps/no ghosting. Invest in the best ISP plan for your area. The best and most compatible monitor for your console/pc. And the highest quality router. Pro gamers have the best hardware available and some of the lowest ping/latency in the game.

    1) if you plan on getting better at PVP: you won’t be the same player at the end of your journey compared to when you started. In short; choose meta weapons that are best in slot and fit your play style. You will adjust and be better for it in the long run.
    2) when he mentions cover and escape routes. He means “game sense”
    You get this from hours and hours of pvp. Map knowledge, radar manipulation, and slide shooting and laning are all important things you will get better at the more you play. A lot of times you aren’t losing because the other person is faster it’s cus they’re smarter and have better game sense form experience.

    Best PVP players: Objective game modes, camp the objective to rack up kills. Competitive game modes: Use meta weapons depending on the map and engagement distances with a shotgun, don't peek, and team shoot. There you have it, its really that simple. There are only a few players that dominate content creators and they beginning to arrive on RUclips. The creators we are used to seeing are in the same league as some of these players I have recently discovered.

    There are also other factors like your whole set up. Are you on console or pc? Are you playing on a tv or monitor? What size? Then there are settings for everything. Are you on WiFi or EC? What is your ping? You have to take into account these factors as well everything mentioned in the video as you are competing against players who not only have many hours of experience in the game but who have the best setup too.

    I prefer the firebreak mindset myself. I am a Titan Main of a decade and I try and find the spot I can cause the most damage and hold that position until I die. Some times it works. sometimes it doesn't. However I know I'm a pain in the ass to fight because I've been told I'm "oppressive and unrelenting once I set my sights on a target." And you can't be bad at PVP and piss the enemy team off bad enough for them to chase your ass around the map. It's honestly hilarious because I usually run them into my teammates.

    Idk about y'all, but I feel like sniping has fallen off a cliff this season. Like, I just don't see ANYONE sniping. It's all shotguns. Conditional, matador, Someday, pretty much all I'm seeing are shotguns. Personally, I've tried to use conditional finality, but I just can't jive with it. I always feel like I don't have enough range, and if I were using a matador or something else, I'd have definitely gotten the pick. I've tried to snipe, especially considering I feel like everyone has been SLEEPING on the new Embraced Identity from the pale heart. Enhanced moving target and enhanced opening shot are damn good together, and you can use it with Khvostov. Everyone has had beloved GLUED to their energy snipe if they're not using cloud strike for eons. And other than, like, occluded finality which is its own thing, I feel like Embraced Identity would be EVERYWHERE if shotguns and abilities weren't completely dominating.

    19:28 I know some readers might laugh at this, but I actually think it’s important for Destiny content creators to either stop using the phrase “play your life”, or instead be very specific and deliberate about what “play your life” means, every time you say this.
    I feel like the “play your life” phrase goes right in one ear and out the other for many individuals. They have some sense that the phrase means something akin to “be careful”… but then they just ignore that thought and full-send an aggressive and/or stupid play, regardless.
    I know that “don’t die purposelessly” is the intent of “play your life”… but I also know that does not register for some decently-sized chunk of the PvP population. We really should ditch “play your life”, in favor of something like, “don’t play stupid/recklessly” or “don’t throw the match by acting impulsively”.
    My suggested alternatives stink, but there NEEDS to something clearer than “play your life” for a lot of players.

    My problem - as a good FPS player (like cod or something else) is, that you really have no overview or can make use of your senses - especially sound. You dont hear enemies approach. The radar is not a help at all and that its going away while ads is breaking the whole information flow. Also i dont understand why titan or warlock melees kill with oneshot most times and hunters cant do it with 2. Its not like they are better in all other regards to balance them by crippling the melee. And i like to snipe. But to approach a nice sniperhit - you need a crosshair. But guess what.. you dont have one on snipers while not ADS.. only in ADS. The most weapons i dont like because of the zoom factor. On other shooters you have options for different zoom values to get conftable. In D2 its almost everythime too much zoom for my taste. Im not on a console sitting 5m away from the TV to need zoom just too see something. And i dont need to see the facehair of guardians just when ADS..
    I consider me to bad in D2 MP - and its not like im getting better by margins. While in other fps i am pretty good and had a clan "wars" past.
    I think it could be so much better in another way. But i also understand its a niche approach for FPS MP whicht others are loving - because its so different.
    So i have mixed feelings about it.
    :O

    I asked on an older video today, but saw this one and it touched on it...figured I'd ask here instead.
    Do you recommend altering the ADS sensitivity modifier on mouse/keyboard? I run 800 DPI and 6 sensitivity. Feels weird to drop it down from 1.0 but if it is a good idea, I can practice it, I'm thinking.

    Everyone has something that they need/can work on in their game , i personally was really good mechanicly in both aim and movement but i was pretty much trash in almost everything else , i was the kind of player that would win 90% of 1v1s and be completely useless on everything else for my team , something that i personally found really helpfull was bringing a mentality from League of Legends into D2 PvP of the "annoying prick" , long story short everything you do will cause a reaction from the enemy so you use something like that to manipulate the match into a better state for you and your team even if you are the one to go down first , chip shots - annoying angles - peek baiting- wasting opponents time and my usual favorite of the overachieving kamikaze where you intentionally go into unfavorable fights for you but in that you chunk enemies or even get atleast one kill and make the opponent over-focus you to shut you down thus making them easy targets for your teammates.
    Edit- i dont know if this will help anyone but because i am naturally good at aiming and i enjoy PvP i used to unintentionally play in autopilot , i know it sounds dumb but when you play with intention it makes a whole lot of diffrence , there is a diffrence between getting in the zone and letting yourself play naturally and spawning in and playing as a dumb auto-aim turret

    I never look at the opposing team in trails im banking that their stats are going to be better and its a 3 stack and I am a solo no mic and I had to completely change how i interacted in game trails i would be awe struck an my pride would be my biggest weakness but I really enjoy the ability to observe the way others are running stats or loadouts but I truly play as if I am going to sweeep every team and that aint none of them gonna have a chance lol wish I was better with manifesting that into the real world tho lol

      Reading radar is a big part of that, and also staying next to cover/teammates so even if u have the wrong weapon out u may have a chance to recover

      The radar and SOUND I capitalized it because it’s very overlooked. Those are gonna be the biggest indicators of when to swap those weapons out. I say sound because good players tend to manipulate the radar with slides/clones/ jumping when you expect them to be at ground level as they coming around the corner

      Also, I think many newer players getting into Crucible do not have a good understanding of how the other classes operate... i.e. a new Titan doesn't know Hunter tendencies or Warlock movement abilities. I would suggest watching creators etc but also making sure to watch people who don't play exactly like you do for a reference of how future fights *might* go 🤝🏾

    I think a very important point is that you don't just use the keyboard layout of the professionals just because they can handle it. Assign the keys in the way that is most comfortable for you and then specifically change the assignment that gives you disadvantages in combat. For example, I reload with the right mouse button because I wanted to press that automatically from the start. So I aim with the front side button and just accept it.
