nzcamper2go - say how do you cut the first layer of fiberglass cleanly? I’m asking about the smaller pieces where you provided a clean edge with the blue masking tape.
From memory, the glass was actually oversized and not that well cut. I think it may look it in the video but its not essential. All you have to make sure is the cloth is well soaked in up to the edge where you want to stop. Anything beyond this point will either be cut away with a very sharp knife or sanded if you are worried about cutting into the wood. One thing I hadn't come across when I built the boat but have used since is Peel Ply. Great stuff. Its laid over the resin and any excess resin soaks through the peel ply and once dry can be peeled off (Im guessing thats where the name comes from!) taking the excess with it. It will also leave a finish that is much quicker to sand and way more uniform in depth. Worth investigating if you are not already familiar with it. Hope that helps.
Hi Marcelo. Glad you enjoyed the video and it helps when you start building. You don't need to be a carpenter to build one of these boats. Just patience and attention to detail are all you need/ Best of luck
beautiful job man !!!! I want to build one but I have not experience with carpentry ... I'll make the try ... your video may be so helpfull, thanks for share your passion Marcelo from Miami USA
hello. nice build. i am starting with one from the bare plans. did you fiberglassed the exterior of the hull. or only painted with epoxy and paint. how behave the wood after this years. thanks.
Yes. I would say it is pretty important to use glass fibre cloth on the exterior bottom as this will inevitably be grounded on the beach at some stage. The boat was always stored in doors and washed down after every use so there was no problem at all with the wood.
Hi there. It was purchased through an agent in Australia but that was a few years ago and I have no idea if that company is still around. Probably best to contact CLC Boats in the US to get there current list of approved agents. Hope that helps, Cheers
Hi there. The main web site in the US is Cheasapeake Light Craft. I used an agent in Australia to buy mine. Cape Boatworks. I tried to put the links but RUclips doesn't allow it. Try googling both. Hope the above helps.
Paul - nice job. Beautiful Boat!. I've built a kayak, and this is next.
Thanks Mark. You wont be disappointed. :)
The clamp variety is hysterical.
Well done video of the build steps and bewdy boat.
When you need 150, you have to take what you can get! :). Thanks for the message. Paul

Is the row wing drop-in unit still made/marketed?
Sorry it’s been 12 years since my build but the Chesapeake web site should have all that info. Cheers
Beautiful boat. Congratulations !
Where did you buy the kit from ?
