This reminds me of the 2 vets in my old gym. One was a ranger and the other a marine, and they always went after each other on everything, trying to beat PRs while shit talking each other the whole time.
This is where I run into issues all the time with my fellow veteran and LE friends... ego. They come in and try jiu-jitsu, only to be smashed by Joe the accountant. They are so used to being the "sheepdogs" and it doesn't feel good to be dominated by another human. Reality is that the only way to get better is to train. Strength, athleticism, cognitive abilities, style, and other attributes all come into play, but understanding how to utilize these to your benefit can only come through mat time. In the end, the mat doesn't care about your resume or your feelings. It's a great source of humility and if you embrace it, you will grow. I have a lot of respect for our Special Operations brothers who come to jiu-jitsu. It has to be a huge hit to the ego to be smashed by regular dudes, but I suppose it's that desire to learn that helped them to succeed in Special Operations in the first place. Awesome video and so glad to share the art with you guys.
