Shibuya Eggman is a very special venue for Band-Maid. When they were just starting out and still struggling, Shibuya Eggman was the tiny venue they played the most. Between 2014 and 2015 they played there 26 times and became very close with the staff there. The venue is located just across the street from a much larger venue called Line Cube Shibuya, where they played in 2020 and videos of their Live performances of Domination, Play, Freedom, etc. were filmed and posted on their YT channel. The story goes that after their gigs at Eggman, the Maids used to look across the street and dreamed of playing at Line Cube one day. When Japan started easing up on the pandemic restrictions and the Maids resumed touring in 2022, they surprised everyone by playing one night at Eggman. Unfortunately the pandemic restrictions weren't fully lifted at that time so the audience members who were lucky enough to have won the ticket lottery for this show had to be fully masked and restricted from raising their voice. Even then it would have been great to see them perform at the tiny venue where they cut their teeth.
Thanks Tim, when I first heard this song I thought how are they going to recreate this live - Duh - fantastically is the answer, this band is just so next level and they're not afraid to take musical risks and to occasionally "challenge" the listener, I can't tell you just how much joy this band has brought to this old Aussie drummer, what a fcken band Po 👍🎼🥁🎸🎤🍻
Vocals......just WOW!! Miku's "Kawaii" voice accentuates Saiki's voice so well, it's like a natural harmony. You love them all. Corallium: Where you get a simultaneous bass and lead guitar solo...... LOVE this song.
Saiki was on fire during all the Eggman show, probably my favourite full concert video/ stream I've seen of them. Another one I'd wish they'd release on DVD/Blu Ray.
I have said many times that BAND-MADE belongs to a Japanese music company with a commercial model based on copyright, and this is related to the release of DVD/BLURAY. Because I'm thinking about it. The company tries to protect the value of released DVDs/BLURAYs, considering them to be company assets. Therefore, the company's legal department monitors RUclips and other sites for copyright violations and requests their removal. If the artist is one of the top sellers in Japan, the company will thoroughly pursue copyright violations to protect the asset value of the released work. However, the company's legal department has its limits, and BAND-MAID, which is a lower-ranking company, often receives copyright violations from overseas, so copyright violations are often ignored. Still, the company does not accept that the asset value of released works will be lowered. BAND-MAID has great past live concert DVDs/BLURAYs such as 2016 at AKASAKA BLITS, 2017 at STUDIO COAST, and 2018 at ZEPP TOKYO. However, the company that BAND-MAID currently belongs to has no intention of allocating the budget to buying those works from their former company and re-releasing them. The 2021 ACOUSTIC CONCERT, which had all the materials, was not released. That excellent 2021 ACOUSTIC has been buried in the darkness. In the case of BAND-MAID, there's a lot of material that most people listen to and think is great, but it's never released. I think this is because the company believes that the asset value of the DVD/BLURAY will be lost due to its spread through RUclips etc., which is a negative factor for the company. The same can be said about the 2021 ACOUSTIC CONCERT. Unlike the works of 2016, 2017, and 2018, there was no need to purchase the copyright from another company, and all the materials were available, but the fact that the company did not release the work was to me was shocking. At the same time, I also thought about BAND-MAID's position within the company. I have no way of knowing who or what kind of work has been released in place of 2021 ACOUSTIC. The simple fact is that when you search for BAND-MAID on RUclips, you'll see direct uploads of songs, not reactions, which is one of the reasons why companies are hesitant to release BAND-MAID's DVD/BLURAY. I think it's true. Some of the unreleased material can be viewed by joining the fan club. However, such methods are used by Japan's unique pop idol industry. However, this method is not a method of spreading music and gaining fans to make a profit, but a method of making a profit by corralling existing fans and squeezing out of them. Rock bands that mainly perform at live houses do not use such methods. I have a lot to say about that, but I won't go into it here.
This is one of the most experimental, complex and fun songs. It's like a musical rollercoaster! Transition, transition and more transition! They're not just talented, they're genius. I also really like your reactions! You never failed to pick up on all the little fills, changes and weird arrangements they do😂
This is one of two songs written by Kanami and Saiki. Both are on this ep. The other being Hibana. Corrallium is the gemstone that results from polished red coral. If you look closely at the ep cover there are a bunch of references and easter eggs. Best hard rock band on the planet.
The way Band-Maid blends genres into very dense yet super integrated music with new guitar tones (Kanami's first run in No God, and Corallium / Influencer, for instance); Akane's drum patterns, fills and beats which go beyond any rock drumming we've ever heard; MISA's second-lead runs, slap/pick/finger techniques, and that tone!!; Miku's unusual second vocal work and lyrics; and Saiki's rapid-fire, powerful singing style... all has Band-Maid if not busting new trails out of their core genre, then certainly setting new trends in rock music for all rock musicians to consider and be inspired by. In short, I'd say Band-Maid is making waves by setting new playing, performance, and prolific work ethic standards that we'll see the results of for years to come. They've upped the game for all to follow! Thx, Tim!
How many bands can play a song this complex so flawlessly…? Miku’s performance is stunning as her backing vocals aren’t simple plus she’s very busy on with the rhythm guitar parts. Amazing. If only there was a way to own a copy of this performance. 🔥🎸🥁🎤🎼😀✌🏼
Great song picks and commentary, Tim! Corallium is one of their more experimental songs, but that's what I like about it and about Band-Maid as a whole. You just can't predict what's going to happen next.
This is my most fav 2021 BM song followed closely by 10 other BM songs, PO🕊💕 My #1 fav album Unseen World was released in 2021 and that tells how much I love this song!😉
Not sure if someone's mentioned it already but MISA-san doesn't drop her pick when she slaps; she just tucks it inside her hand between fingers. In that way, she can do fast switches.
Why you always misspelling Saiki's name? lol I know you have a reason. One thing I know is you are calculated and always ready to fire someone in particular.
I believe this is one of the first songs by the band with lyrics written by lead vocalist Saiki. Usually, Miku- Backing vocals/Rhythm guitar/Red rose, writes all the lyrics. It's a common feature for Misa to cover the melody line while Kanami basically solo's continuously in the back ground. Akane's drumming is just f'n genius- love the skipping snare notes towards the end. Enjoying your reactions-Thanks from the UK.
KANAMI uses the harmonizer/pitch-shifter pedal on almost every song now. Sometimes KOBATO sings at a lower pitch than SAIKI. She’s quite versatile. When you say AKANE, it sounds like, “Akone”
I think they both have amazing range and versatility. In why why why, Manners, Saiki goes super low, also in Shambles when she does the descending vocal run. They both can hit high note either with chest voice, head voice or falsetto accordingly. When Miku goes low it has the different tone from Saiki's, and Band-Maid use the tonal difference in the best way possible. Saiki used to struggle a lot with low range when Alone came out though.
The difference between Miku's and Saiki's vocals: Miku Kobato has a soft voice whereas Saiki has a hard voice. This is why they sound so good together PO!
Yeah! Saiki has a distinctly R&B quality to her voice which seems unusual for Japanese female singers in rock and metal. There was a discussion a few weeks ago on the Gaijin Guys podcast about fadeouts in modern music. Some people have surprisingly strong opinions about that technique. It was used back in the '60s because 45 RPM records had limited capacity so album cuts had to be shortened and the fadeout was one way to do it (and hint that the album version kept going). Nobody does it anymore. They don't need to.
Hello from Japan. SAIKI has been a big fan of Namie Amuro since childhood. Namie Amuro is a charismatic J-Pop singer and dancer based on R&B. I think SAIKI wanted a song that paid homage to Namie Amuro. So she asked Kanami to write a song for her, and she wrote the lyrics herself. That is Corallium. It's a bit unique among BAND-MAID's songs, but it's a song that you can enjoy the most when you listen to it live. Not only SAIKI's singing, but also Miku's accent, Akane's double kick, Misa's bass, and Kanami's solo and guitar work. Everything is amazing. You can see Namie Amuro in the SAIKI episode of the band-maid documentary series (SAIKI, KANAMI, AKANE, MISA, MIKU) created by Ohrenje.
To me, Corallium is BAND-MAID's best song. Not my favourite (it's #3 for me) but in terms of songwriting, as a guitarist myself, i think it's their best. It just has everything you could want in a good song. Also, for creepy/eerie suggestions, the closest to that for BAND-MAID would be Black Hole, i don't know if you've done this one. And i would like to suggest a short one by my second favourite guitarist (my #1 being Kanami of course) his name is Bernth, and he posts a looot of great tracks on YT. The one i suggest is called Nightmare Lullaby. You can find either the live take video (but it doesn't have the name in the title so might be tricky to find) or you can just find it as audio only, in the releases section of his channel. You could also go for another one called Drown, which has a music video. Either way, hope you're well, and peace out!

Yeah Eggman to the Maids is what the Cavern is to the Beatles.
Live version is just awesome.
One of my top 10 BM songs.
Even better live. Gee what a surprise! Eggman was an awesome show.

Saiki did write the lyrics for Corallium, and Hate?, but Miku wrote them for Hibana. Saiki and Miku have co-written a few songs, including Alone.
@@bobespirit2112 Thanks l spoke too quickly. Corrallium is indeed 100% Sai-chan lyrics.
Fantastic - great band - outstanding composition.

Thanks for posting, Tim. I wondered if they would perform this live. Peace

That's the Band-Maid magic. Giving Miku different vocal parts to add the unique flavour and emphasise the contrasting vocals. Pure genius.

Misa does that sometimes, shell write her killer bass licks to psyche vocals

@@Aaronacer I spell it that way specifically to let people know how to say her name in english
Great reaction and MISA has a 4th dimension pick which she can swap in and out when needed.
Miku's "Happy Halloween" song if you can find it......Very spooky also Band-Maid "Why Why Why" because it's Great Great Great !!!!!🕊🍌🍻☕⚾

Asami from Lovebites also have RnB influence from what I've heard.
Band-Maid doesn't know how to do "B" side songs for filler, just "A" songs! "Hibana" is so good from this same EP.
