People who follow orthodox Islam would class the celebration of the prophet pbuh birthday as a bidah=innovation because this was not legislated by the prophet pbuh himself or his companions hence why it’s a new practice and innovations are considered worse than major sins in Islam.

'Milad' normally used to refer time of births, while 'Mawlid' refers to celebration (annual) of Prophet Muhammad's birthday. At my place (Malaysia - Indonesia - Brunei), we celebrate the whole month with State's events and ceremonies. Different place has their own way to celebrate mawlid. ✌️
