  • I Feel Like GIVING UP on Public Land - Hunters united not divided... I wanted to make sure the owner(s) of this camera see that I root for their success. I hope we can help others handle situations similar and share public land. I hope to do a video bow build with the hubby and show that even though there was a misunderstanding, we can still move forward. Regardless if you like or don't like trail cameras, cellular trail cameras, I think the take home message is respect, we all want that. -DS #elkshape

I’m gonna pin this up top… United not Divided. I offered to do a bow build for the husband because he was nice in person. He’s a serious hunter who doesn’t have social media. I liked him. Please learn from this and work towards uniting our small community.

Definitely all noise but I am glad everything got cleared up. It sucks that in this social media age that folks are so quick to judge. Pros and cons of a cell camera 📸 are proven right there.
Good luck 🍀 to you Dan and all hunters who are braving snow ❄️ like that in hopes of getting a whitetail buck 🏹🦌

Bro we are all behind you. We know you wouldn’t do that. You don’t have to. Most of us know what it’s like being blamed for things we haven’t done and it’s sad we live in a world like that. It’s like you said. People will always root against you. People will always want you to fail. I know this first hand and it doesn’t matter who you are it’s part of life. It’s just up to us on how we deal with it and to keep moving forward. Keep your head up. Your community knows you wouldn’t do that.

But that's the thing about public land !! It's not their spot. It's mine and yours as well if we find the same spot. I went back to "my" spot this year over a mile and a half back. And super hard walking as a tornado went through 5 years ago. It's been logged since with tops of trees everywhere. Got back there set up hung my bow and there is a guy in a tree 40 yards away waving at me. so a week later went back but down the creek a little bit farther. and boom there he is again. So I figured it might be this guy I talked to a couple years prior. Turns out it's his buddy so after all of that and the riffle season going by. I bow hunt only but we are meeting this weekend coming up to get on the same page with one another. We all need patience and know it's not our spot it's anyone's who finds it. Seems like a great guy and I'm excited to meet him actually. He has a way quicker way in going through his buddy's property like only a few hundred yards. Lucky guy

Public land hunting is tough in many respects. Many of us have no other options especially hunting other states. Most of us know few folks or have the extra income to pay to hunt private land. I had someone in Montana knock my camera to the ground and steal my memory card a few years ago. Some don’t like trail cameras so they are happy to punish those of us who do.
I appreciate your videos and very ethical hunting standards you set!
I feel like you handled this situation very well! Your situation was a good example of one of the many challenges of hunting public land. However we need people like you to continue to hunt public land to prove that doing so is doable in spite of it’s many challenges!

Good CYA Dan. Honestly regardless of how much money you have how many animals you kill how big your channel gets. No body has the right to do this to anyone. We are all hunters and should do are best to help and welcome others. That’s how we grow and survive! Honestly I wish more hunters where like Dan the integrity he has simply isn’t common anymore.

There are so many people in the woods these days... Less during Archery season. We have to share and get along or we look like dummies to people outside the hunting world.
Great video - love your work. And there is nothing wrong with TRT when it gets low - it helps me keep up with you young bucks in the woods and in the gym!
When you're in Utah - feel free to reach out - you can use my gym anytime, 24/7. It's 6,000 sq ft just 30 minutes north of SLC.

Stay strong..... its funny you mentioned the past misfortune you had. I remember them all and I'm glad you brought them up. You always handle yourself with class. I'm not a hatter and really appreciate you and your style but its a fact that Public land hunting has been effected by the commercialization of hunting, and people like you who have helped fuel it with viedos and tv shows etc. YOUR not the first or the last, but it's a fact that this has directly increased the popularity of it. Your point is spot on about working with one another and trying to help each other out, to bad only half of us want to work like that. I would love to hunt the woods with you !!!

Dan, I have watched your videos and used information from them to help strengthen a shoulder injury, from bow hunting this year. You are no quitter, so stand strong. United not divided. Public land is all most of us have. We all experience things in the woods, most of them are positive. There are three times as many people in this world as there was in the 1960's, with population grow there is less empty space to find. We have to stand together if we want to survive. Glad you met the people involved and I hope they will come out and Blast you with an apology. Your handling of the situation shows the reason people look to you and trust you. Happy Holiday's and good Hunting.

We put out 7 trail cams last year. Home state Idaho. The gated road "that's NEVER open", was opened Sept. 2 with state of Idaho timber thinning. Another area has brush grinders so that the rich "campers" from Donnelly can rip up & down the road on side by sides that are rented from a BIG rental company down the mountain. And Idaho is selling "Public" land too. WTF?! Thank you for bringing awareness that it's not just in Idaho.

Sorry this happened to you. You handled it very well. In my neck of the woods I had to stop hunting and fishing Public because of the greed and unspeakable actions of other hunters and fisherman in front of me and my kids of all things. It's not like it used to be and that is so unfortunate. We will lose it if we don't promote sportsmanship.

Respect the video, glad it worked out the way it did and I hope you film the Lift build. Side note, I don’t agree that Idaho’s system is unfair. Whether I’m hunting “out of state” in Wyoming, Utah, or Nevada I consistently see more out of state hunters in Idaho. I should also say, I’m not against out of state hunting, I do it as well. But hunting in the states I mentioned as an out of stater or talking with friends who hunt out of state in Idaho and compare the systems I feel it’s a fair system.

Yup i used to be a modern firearm hunter. I wanted to switch over to archery for so long. I finally did it about 7 years ago and havent looked back. I got tired of so many people in 1 area at a time. I have been shot at hearing bullets wizing by my head, hearing bullets hitting trees 100 yards in front of me and so much negativity from everyone. I hunt in Washington and if i ever see you hunting in my neck of the wood i will deff shake your hand and let you know where good spots are if you need the help finding one. Keep it up Dan and try not to let people get under your skin. Its hard sumtimes but kill them with kindness and hope for the best. Good luck hope to see more awsome content. Hope to see you at sum 3d shoots

Total BS that you had to endure that Dan. I have had cameras stolen, I have hunted in multiple states and 99% of the time. If you just walk up to another hunter and introduce yourself and say Hi there is an instant bond because we have the same passion and share the same struggles. You are a class act dude and you have another follower. One thing I tell all my buddies who don’t self film. I have been doing it for 3 years now and it makes you accountable for every decision you make. It’s going on film. It’s real, you have to be honest and there’s no way to hide anything so you better be following state regulations and respecting others property and land. You do that and I respect you. This situation really SUCKS. Rumors and speculation often carry severe reputation consequences online. It can be like a wildfire and damage people and their livelihoods. Sorry you experienced this, Dan. I too have had many cameras (15-20) stolen, even had someone cut the tree down to slip my cable lock off on private land. It's infuriating 🤬 to say the least. I can't count how many SD cards have been stolen as well. I used to build my own cameras from Sony digital cameras and had one stolen less than 48 hours after its first set. I had $250 and about 40 hours into that build. If I see a camera, I might wave or give a thumbs up just to acknowledge I see it. That's it.

Dan I know what you are feeling. I have had people in the same camp jump my stand and take my card out of my camera. I have always taken the stance that it is public land and there is a lot of it. You are a public figure in the social media realm and an easy target for trolls that want nothing more than negativity that is not needed or wanted in the hunting world. I think your actions were 💯 understandable. You put out the olive branch and took the high road. A lot of people should take your lesson from this unfortunate incident. Still don’t think pictures posted suggested you stole the camera. ??? Thank you for sharing as a lot of people would avoid talking about such an incident. Hunters should UNITE not FIGHT. Stand tall Dan! Love your content.
