      One day walkout was a tactic, to make things difficult for the employer & to use as leverage in negotiations while only losing one day of pay. But a walkout makes you subject to a lockout, which the hospital decided to do.

    My baby and I are alive because of nurses at Kapiolani. HELLP syndrome is no joke. They got my baby and I through a very difficult birth. I'm not the only person who can say this about their experience at Kapiolani. The nurses are walking out because the lack of staff is causing burnout, and this is happening all over the mainland, too. They cannot do the job without the proper staffing. Lots of highly experienced people are leaving the medical profession, too. Maternal and infant mortality rates are increasing in the United States because of lack of staffing and low quality doctors and nurses just entering the profession only for paychecks. People need to know before hating on these nurses. We would not be here without them. Hawaii cannot afford to lose highly skilled medical personnel. Wahine and their keiki need excellent nursing care. It's not optional.

    These nurses got me trippin. They walked out for 24 hours and now acting like you guys ready to work? I’m a patient who struggled on Friday with the birth of my son all because of their strike. I’m personally happy that they got locked up because if they were all for the patients, they would be there for the patients and it’s not like they don’t have 4 days off every week for them to voice their opinions. Don’t walk out on a job and be expected to be welcomed back with open arms 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @KeelyKaydence
      @KeelyKaydence Месяц назад +11

      I’ve been here in the ICU for over 3 weeks and these nurses put everything into their jobs. They did more than simple nursing tasks. They had to keep track of multiple rooms and comfort families who just found out their child was diagnosed with cancer. They were out there fighting for the safety of the patients. Better nurse to patient ratios means they have more time to help you in your room without having to leave all the time to check on other patients - and in an ER or ICU setting that’s really important. I’m sorry you didn’t get to experience how amazing they are. The hospital brought in transplants who don’t even come close to the care and aloha our local nurses give. They took ONE day to band together and fight for what’s safe and right for patients and families and they got locked out for speaking up. The hospital is in the wrong here. They keep trying to throw money and short work weeks at them saying they are giving them a “good deal” - keep in mind they are working 12+ hr shifts (they are full time workers). It’s not about the money, it’s about patient safety - when nurses are overworked and overbooked that’s when mistakes can happen - the hospital is being negligent
