    Her leg flies back when she goes over the jump, it’s just something the rider doesn’t notice until this happens. Used to fly back with me too then I had an incident like this and flew over the horses neck. It’s incidents like this that teach you real quick what you need to work on since you figure out “oh since I have this habit it can cause something like this to happen”. It’s the imperfections like this that lead to improvement afterwards, nice save though Sophie, now you’ll just know what to work on to prevent the same incident from happening again, and you just continued riding, didn’t make a scene, just shows how much you changed as a rider!

    Sophie needs to do more of the 'set the horse up for success'. Take your time and make sure you have all the right aids to tell the horse to canter, sitting trot to go into canter, upward and downward transitions need to not be so let go of everything and happening like ketchup coming out of the bottle. Sophie's form has really taken a nosedive since she has done the jumper, as she is constantly chasing the horse to go and doesn't rely on her fundamental skills. If anything this lesson is an example of how much Sophie uses the outside rein to keep the horse on the rail. Horses don't need that, they naturally want to go straight. I'm curious as to why Sophie rides Sparky with an extra long crop. The one thing that 'almost incident' did was check Sophie and make sure she's not riding with her body forward so much and not make a big 2pt over a smaller fence.

    • @SarahG1183

      @@jrmints80 Couldn't agree more. I suggested Beth Underhill and Margie Goldstein Engel as well. Beezie's awesome too. I have to say I would go the extra step and say that position isn't in the top things period. Both of the girls have some serious form flaws as of late and while the coaches get after them, maybe they aren't getting after them enough. I had a persistent coach and she would nag me till high hell and eventually i would get so sick of it I would change and i would defo integrate into my practice rides more. Honestly, I get that sophie thought jumper was fun but i don't think she can truly handle jumper at the moment. The show they went to that had jumper crossrails, that is not common around me and i was kind of surprised to see it existed.

    • @SarahG1183
      @SarahG1183 3 года назад +1

      @@jrmints80 there many great canadians and I have met them all and had the pleasure of being taught in clinics by Beth so that's why I chose her. Ian is very good from a technical standpoint the one thing is he's so damn tall so any horse he rides looks like a play toy. Ya that's a good point, do they even know the legends? I know that Gabby disliked the Cathy Inch Clinic but Cathy is a legend in the hunter world. I think having a few clinics from different people would help. It's a fresh set of eyes to analyze and correct or reinforce behaviour and actions the girls are doing.

    Also Sophie's left stirrup is still longer than the other, right needs to come down one, really should be checked by your instructor at the beginning of the lesson, that's why she'll be getting cramp in the right leg too when the stirrup is shortens to attempt to make it easier to keep your legs still instead of practicing with correct stirrups to develop the muscle

Sophie should be old enough and experienced enough to recognize when her stirrups aren’t quite right, and she should be able to fix that herself! • @melbowell5601
    @melbowell5601 3 года назад +5

    Good save Sophia 😊 It might just be me, however your stirrups looked a little uneven and short, so that could have been affecting your balance and contributed to you getting cramp. Sparky is a good lesson pony, although he’s not quite as willing as Finn, so you do need to use some leg and work hard to stop him cutting his corners. If you’re struggling to get the canter or the correct canter lead, just take a moment, compose yourself and establish a good trot (which you should sit too) and then ask for the canter again, giving clear aids, Sparky has a tendency just to trot faster, which means you then get unbalanced and it’s harder, but you’ll get the hang of it 👍🏻 Again, I know this wouldn’t be your favourite thing, although some work without stirrups really would help you develop a deeper seat 😊

The Sophie I saw a year ago would have fallen off when that jump went wrong but you stayed on like the amazing rider you are, it just shows the amount of improving you have done and how much you are progressing, yes it wasn't perfect but the once thing about riding is that your never perfect, there's always little improvements to be made and your always learning, whether you have been riding 5 years or 50 years, there's always something new. Well Done Sophie!! Also I loved the music you chose for this video, the lyrics really reminded me of Brandon. Love and Hugs. xx
