As you may already know, during my recent trip to Rapido UK I was lucky enough to see the decorated samples of the Highland Railway Jones Goods being put through their paces. Not only were they kind enough to run them but they were also testing out the early versions of the DCC Sound Decoder.
While I featured this briefly in my more extensive video of my visit to Rapido UK, I thought some of you may appreciate this bonus video demonstrating the sound decoders without any music or voice over. The samples on display are the Jones Green livery and the LMS lined black livery.
Please be aware that these are early samples and Rapido already know of several issues relating to the decoration that need addressing - that is the point of these early prototypes after all. Additionally, please bear in mind that the sound has been recorded in an echoey warehouse, processed by both the camera and editing software before being compressed, exported and uploaded to RUclips, who no doubt compress it further. All this is to say - it sounds much better in person with your own ears which a simple video recording couldn't hope to replicate. This is just a teaser to get you excited!
Thanks for watching 😃
We need more Scottish engines in pre grouping liveries!.. Be so cool to see a manufacturer like Rapido make all four of the Scottish quartet of preserved engines.. to which the "Jones Goods" was a member.. Imagine if they made a super detailed Caledonian 123 single.. Gordon highlander.. or Glenn Douglas...
I can dream 🥲
We've definitely seen manufacturers taking more of an interest in Scottish models lately. Hornby did the J36, Rails commissioned the 812, Hattons had their Barclay and now Rapido are doing the Jones Goods so it's fair to say it's growing in popularity. Thanks for watching 😃
Indeed! I have the Jones on order, but I missed out on the Caley 812, so I’m crossing my fingers that Bachmann do another run! We also have the Caledonian Fireless coming from Rapido. I’m hoping we see a Caledonian 123, 600, 439, and the Highland Ben Class! Rapido are spoiling us, and if the 812 was anything to go off of from Bachmann then we are in for some treats from them as well!
@@modelrailfan37Rails have the Caley on offer at the moment, black livery tho
@@Haymarket47 ya they do, I want the blue one tho so I’m gonna hold off for now
And the port of par twins just chilling there. Cannot wait for the Jones Goods, have 2 on pre-order! Thanks for sharing, great to see progress on this!
If you like the look of the Bagnall twins there's some footage of them running in the longer video of my visit to Rapido UK 😉 Thanks for watching 👍
I haven’t ordered the Port of Par twins, but boy am I tempted!
My heavens, this is really an amazing piece of work. Well proportioned, smooth running, and great sound. They'll sell a bunch of these, I'm sure. Congrats Rapido!
They are shaping up to be really superb models - I couldn't stop playing with them when I was at Rapido! Thanks for watching 😃
Oh, and that loco is crying out for a crew
Once the models are released I'm sure plenty of people will be adding crews... Modelu might even do a specific set to fit the model. Thanks for watching 😃
Great video keep it up love the sound of the locomotive
It's great isn't it! Really has a nice sound to it especially with the different modes. Thanks for watching 😃
Okay, you and Rapido got me, I just ordered the HR Yellow one with sound fitted this morning 😂. Can’t wait for these, they are going to be amazing, now we can only hope this won’t be Rapido’s last Highland loco. Personally I’d really like to see the Highland Ben Class after this!
I should be on commission! 😅 They are set to be really stunning models from what we've seen so far. Thanks for watching 👍
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy lol you would be very good at that! Thanks for sharing that with us!!
beautiful !
They're stunning aren't they! Thanks for watching 😃
I think the jones goods looks and sounds amazing, I think rapido have done a really good job with this loco 😀
I have to admit, I have no real need for one of these and yet they’re so good I’ll be getting one anyway! Rule One strike again 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
The wheels are mesmerising on this
Yeah, I was amazed at some of the intricate lining they've managed to replicate on them too! Thanks for watching 😃
Smooth as..ever considered having a water based smoke machine fitted ?
Rapido have already announced they're looking at adding smoke to future models - it won't be on the Jones Goods I think as these are due for release in 2024 but there will be more news later this year I believe. Thanks for watching 😃
Yowza! That’s one gorgeous Scottish engine! 👍
It really is - The models are so much fun to play with too! Thanks for watching 😃
I wonder if I can get the Jones Good here in America some how. The first engine color is beautiful and the sound is awesome. I do N scale but for that one I would do some bigger layout too. Thanks for sharing.
GOD BLESS 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖
Rapido UK is an offshoot of the main Rapido company which is based in Canada I think so I'm sure there must be a way. Even if not directly there are a few retailers here in the UK who ship internationally too if you really wanted to get your hands on one. Thanks for watching 😃
Fabulous, add some figures in the cab for more realism...
These models haven't been released yet. Once people get their hands on them I'm sure plenty will add crews to the cab. Thanks for watching 😃
I wish I could have oun but I have no money
These haven't been released yet so there's still time to save up. Based roughly on Rapido's estimated delivery date, if you put aside around £6.20 a week you'd have enough. Thanks for watching 😃
I cant put a side that much I only get money once a month
But I will try
Mechanical saw working away again along with tinny sounding whistle. Still can't believe people pay so much for this stuff
As I noted in the description, you can't judge the sound based off what you hear on video bearing in mind it was recorded in less than perfect conditions and has been subsequently compressed by RUclips. Much like live music, things always sound better in person.
Personally I would say this is one of the best sounding steam locomotives I've heard, coming close to some of the diesel models available which have much larger bass speakers. Thanks for watching 👍
I don't like sound in model trains, because to me it does not sound good, but this one is different.
The limitations here is your video sound recording, how it sounds on RUclips and my audio equipment.
These locos sounds, sound loud and distorted, but the distortion maybe why to me it sounds better then others, and the audio equipment in the locos is maybe better then others.
There is a downside to the audio in these locos, which is the same to all of them. The locos sounds are always there in the room where the layout is, real trains come and go (unless shunting) and so does the sound and you get the doppler effect too. The only way we can make this close to the real thing is to have a very large room (or outdoors) or have the layout go out into another room.
The sound going round and round a tail chaser will annoy me and if more then one train, more so. I know I can turn the audio off, but you paid for sound.
After all that, I do enjoy your videos, so keep them coming.
As I noted in the description, a recording of a recording processed by camera/editing software/RUclips/etc is never going to match up to hearing it in person.
Similarly models can never attempt to replicate a real steam loco simply due to the size of the speaker. What I will say though is that the Jones Goods is one of the best sounding models I've ever come across and comes close to actually replicating the doppler effect in some instances.
Additionally I've also experimented with automating fade outs/ins on my own layout when a train enters/exits the fiddle yard which has had some satisfying effects so far. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy Thank you.
Hi , just want your opinion, what is best day to go to Alexander Palace Exhibition in your mind , I suppose if anyone wants a Specific Loco ,they might sell out on sat, are you going and what day , Many thanks
It depends what your main purpose for going is. If it's to see layouts you're probably best going on the Sunday as usually exhibitions are a bit quieter on the second day. If you're going to get some bargains though then you'll want to be there bright and early on Saturday morning to get the best deals. I'll be there on the Saturday most likely due to other commitments on the Sunday. Thanks for watching 😃
