I once played a BardBearian who was Bard 1/Moon Druid 2/Barbarian 2. Beefy of course with tons of HP and rage resistance, reckless attacks and throw out inspiration with bonus actions. Mainly though, we up our pun game with Bardbearian.
Ha! Pun game: 11/10
Amazing
that would be a brilliant idea
Welcome Optimizers, today we build something completely different
an optimized pun

Chris & Colby: Have either of you read the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser series? It was one of the inspirations for D&D. They are some of my favorite fantasy fiction novels.
In one of the best books in the series, Fafhrd (a Barbarian) gets religion and tries to convert others to the faith. I think this may have been one of the sources foe Gary Gygax’s idea for multiclassing.
This would be Barbarian Cleric, but it is will still perhaps be interesting to you two just from a historical point of view. 😊
@@alanschaub147 No but they're on my to read list!
"THIS is what peak *performance* looks like, heathen"
*Riffs guitar 🎸
Reading this in Arnie's voice is an added gold plating.
"My character's name? Beric Ügenhagen. Hmm? No, not based on any wrestlers- Wha- That guy's name is Eric Bugenhagen? Wow, crazy coincidence. So yeah anyway I'm doing a zercher deadlift on that Beholder."
*flexes muscles*
*starts soloing*
Character concept: a wild and strangely charismatic barbarian get recruted for a reglion outreach program, and was giving training to both be an idol and a paladin

Barbarian: The bad
Bard: The good
Paladin: The ugly
Fighter: And the stupid
I imagine this character being Val Hallen from Dexter's Labratory.
That's actually perfect
Omg you are totally right
val hallen is such a good character haha
a great fictional example of the Bardbarian archetype is Jack Black's character in Brutal Legend (very underrated game btw)
gonna be honest, i'd flavor this character as a magical girl, where her entering rage is a shiny ball of Anime Transformation Scene
And instead of axes reflavour them as those baton things from sailor moon or cardcaptor Sakura
Ode To Fury
Bellows of pain
And scraping of chains
The echoes they taunt and deceive me
Oceans of blame
And rivers of shame
The fury it never leaves me
Grief in the snow
The winter of woe
Has come here to judge and bereave me
Lock up the rage
It rattles the cage
The fury it never leaves me
Always within
To lurk in the skin
The wounds ever aching so deeply
Try as I may
To hide it away
The fury it never leaves me
Long I’ve suffered the hunger
Long I’ve silenced the cry
Long I’ve fled from the thunder
To ascend
Still I try
To carry the pain
To keep it contained till the end
Pour out the anger and hide it away
Lest it spill to the blameless and lead them to pain
In the steel and the rags I will cover the shame
So the innocent need not be judged in my name
Long I’ve suffered the hunger
Long I’ve silenced the cry
Long I’ve fled from the thunder
To ascend
Still I try
To carry the pain
To keep it contained till the end
Bellows of pain
And scraping of chains
The echoes they taunt and deceive me
Oceans of blame
And rivers of shame
The fury it never leaves me.

Excited to see your take on this. Had an idea similar with ancestral guardians and using magical secrets to do some limited necromancy. He used a bone as a mace, and a shield (drum) to beat out the heartbeats of his deceased ancestors who fought for him (like necromancy in the dresden files "polka will never die").
For your magical secrets at the end of the build I'd take Armor of Agathis, because it upcasts nicely and combos with rage exceedingly well. My other pick is find greater steed but you already picked it
also your steed will get buffed when you cast Armor of Agathis so with rage thats a 90hp buff for you 6th lvl slot
@@liamgray3335 and quite a lot of damage, I could see having 3 or even 4 attacks before the shield is depleted on you and the mount so you're looking at over 90+ retaliation damage
Beginning of the video: Some of the most epic rock music ever pumping you up
Also beginning of the video: One of the most relaxing voices ever relaxing you
Cool! The old music is back!!!
Hopefully you have options for shipping outside the US for the merch.

Was honestly hoping you would fit in Tasha's Otherworldly Guise into this character. I know it's concentration so it wouldn't work with rage, but just imagine this character sprouting devil wings and ripping their enemies to shreds while powerwolf plays in the background and the entire battlefield is swamped in demon blood!
Optimal? No. Metal? Metal.
Randall Hampton's portraits should be the episode covers on Spotify. His work really adds something to the feel, and I would love to see it on my phone as I listen!
My theory was Creation Bard, using some spell slots for Animating Performance, which both does damage and grants advantage. He’s a Dragonborn with a belt of dwarvenkind, making him a Bearded Dragonborn Bardbarian.
Spells: Fire Shield (nope, not a concentration spell), Destructive Wave (great spell, plus it’s very thematic)
how does the animated object grant advantage? i dont see anything about that in the stat block nor in the ability description.
@@TheRobversion1 Flanking.
@@dbrandow ahh. Forgot about that. Most tables i've seen dont use flanking.
Yeah, for a metal Bardbarian, I'd go 5-Barbarian (Ancestral Guardian so you conjure groupies to hinder your enemies) then 5-Creation Bard - taking Dispel Magic, Tiny Hut, See Invisibility, Aid, Shatter, Featherfall, Detect Magic, Thunderwave, Disguise Self, Animal Friendship. With a lute-axe.
For bonus action attack, my PC (greataxe barbbarian) bought a dancing greatsword. It's cool to see a barb with a greataxe and a greatsword. Of course, he can't dual wield both, but he can certainly carry or drag both into battlefield.
Aid is a great option for this character. It's both: support and survive perspective. And it has great scale potential!
Can't wait until D&D Beyond gets those optional spells just added to a class's spell list. Maybe put an asterisk by them or something but I keep forgetting to double check that when doing a character build :).
For me as a metalhead, I imagine the nova round of this character to probably happen, when either the guitar solo or the breakdown hits hard.
Great build as always!
I was kicking ideas back and forth earlier for an ancient Roman campaign, and suddenly realized this would be an *incredible* build to re-flavor as a bacchante (i.e. a cultist of the god of wine, song, and ripping people to shreds in orgiastic mystery rites).
Niiiiice.
The power of the Thu'um.
A nord barbarian shouting everything with his word of power "Smite!"
I just love Skyrim.
Magical secrets: best feature in D&D. The combinations are endless! Find greater steed and armor of agathys would be my go to. The temp HP lasts for an hour and would apply to your mounted steed. then rage and smite on turn 2+
This is your best build. 👌 you take a meme class combo and a meme fighting style and you made an amazing character and amazing build. Just fantastic.
Thank you! :)
I have liked these multifaceted ideas.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to mix artificer battle smith / blood hunter mutant / blade singer to make very hey AC mage tank with extra tricks.
I like the idea of having an ok character that finally reaches their true potential and starts rocking super hard.
I've been waiting for this build!
Song of Rest for this character would totally be some kind of rock ballad. The first thing that comes to mind for me is "Icarus" from the Guilty Gear series.
Thank the D&D gods!!!!!
I have to wait 1hour for check in. This came at the right time to fill in my time of boredom.
Awesome video!
I love builds with barbarian levels because it's my favorite class and it's an underrated class in optimization.
Colby, No man, you're the awesome one and I sincerely thank you of your content! This build once again gave me so much inspiration. Much Love and happy holidays to you and your family and mates!
Thanks! Same!
I can't stop thinking of Shadow of War's poet orcs
"Your fate just went from bad to worse / You fight an Orc, who speaks in verse"
Merch designs of all the builds you've done or most popular would be amazing! Working with Randall more on design eh? I could already imagine some awesome stuff.
Glad you brought the old music back for this one!
Love the show and all your builds man. Merch wise I would love to see a hat or shirt with the D4 network logo and a "Welcome home" on it. I always have enjoyed that little intro
I think the aid spell (on the bard list since TCOE) would be just perfect for the entire career (pun intended) of this character.
As always, amazing work. You rock!
Half-elf also allows you to take Elven accuracy, Barbs get reckless attack for advantage, Vengeance Paladins can get advantage via their channel divinity, triple advantage for crit smiting.
Won't work because of Strength needed for reckless so it is limited to Paladin. I wish it didn't myself because I would love a Longbow Barbarian.
Barbs get bonus damage only when attacking through Strength
Ok so 8 minutes or so into the video. And I'm thinking about this build. And a image kinda appeared with the artwork you showed and he was saying a prayer.
"I've felt the hate rise up in me.
Kneel down and clear the stones and leaves.
I wander out to where you cant see.
Inside my shell.
I Wait and Bleed!"
Yea yea Slipknot fans rejoice!
But it's what came to mind from the art and the feel of the build.
Lmao
Just thought I would share that bit of inspiration.
As my 3 year old poddling romps around noshing to the song.
FINALLY! haha weve thought about this concept for years! nice to see someone actually do it!
As far as merch goes, I think you’re right that the shirt would be better without the colon. Also I’d be interested in seeing designs that had more than just letters on them
This helped me so much. Started a beast barbarian recently. Gunner, grappler and elven accuracy. Throw in collage of whispers...a point blank gun blast with triple advantage blows out the ears of your grappled opponent, while in the midst of this unnatural silence and ringing, a kakophany of whispers slips into their mind like smooth jazz slightly off time.... looking up just in time to see a maw exuding pure glory close over their already bloodied face...
So glad you brought the metal theme back
Bardbaradin. Awesome video man, keep em coming! Plant is looking good and chonky.
I, sir, have a silly build for you to give a look-see! This build I refer to simply as "The Ancestral Swashbuckler". The build is Strength-based with a rapier and shield, and it is centered around 3 levels in Barbarian for the Ancestral Guardian subclass features, and then 3 levels in Rogue for Swashbuckler subclass features. Those three levels in Rogue have incredible synergy with the Ancestral Guardian "taunt" feature. Cunning Action gives our Barbarian the ability to Hide or Dash as a bonus action, and the Swashbuckler features give us the best part of the Mobile feat for free! You can run up to an enemy and hit them, make them have disadvantage and half damage on all of their attacks against your allies, then you just run away! I personally went Barbarian for the rest of the build until 20, but the core is those first 6 levels. I started as a Bugbear for the helpful stat boost, long limbs, and sneaky for that little bit of damage to add to your Sneak Attack. Sneak Attack damage really helps this build when it's missing out on its Extra Attack early on. Anyways, that's all I've got to say! Hope you see this, Critlander!
I love Rogue/Barb combos. This is actually quite similar to the Rogue Tank build I did awhile ago... ruclips.net/video/oOCc5meeqOY/видео.html
@@DnDDeepDive Egads! I didn't even notice this video! Unsurprisingly, the master already has it covered. Such an underrated multiclass. Defense and mobility is far more useful than people realize.
@@zthandrapus.t5685 :)
Dude the arcane trickster ancestral barb is my rogue now lol and to everyone I’m just a rogue 0.0 that can tank!
Ahh! The Rock music intro is back. Love after not having it for a while!
In the campaign I'm currently playing, one of the PCs is playing a bard-barian. Not a singer who rages. He is a WWE style wrestler called the Judge who has a giant gavel as his wrestling prop/weapon.
Awhh yeah, the RAGE!!!!! music is back baby.
His music is the latest RAGE.
Was literally just thinking of this type of multiclass option! Amazing work, thanks for covering this. Skål!
Edit: song of rest would be "Raise Your Horns" by Amon Amarth
I gave the LIKE for the Heavy Metal (1981!) reference.
Keep up the great videos!
Thanks!
I really enjoyed this build. I can't wait for your concept build of the "Luckiest" person alive!! Where their luck can also spread to other people by modifying or re-rolling their dice rolls. Even maybe, "taking" the luck of enemies.
Halfling divination wizard/lore bard w/ lucky, bountiful luck and take guidance, silvery barbs, fortunes favor. Rerolls galore plus the cutting words/bardic inspo to get “luck” on your side/ steal from others (I’m probably missing something)
I like the idea of this character crudely pulling strings up the hilt of a battleaxe and rocking out. It'd be cool to get thaumatergy on them, so for the paladin fighting style I MIGHT take blessed warrior for that.
Love this idea, always fun to see unusual class combos. I would probably go for fire shield and armour of Agathys for magical secrets as they would be able to be set up before combat and don't need concentration. I'd maybe hope to get Agathys on pre combat and use fire shield then rage on the first round. You miss out on a couple of attacks but then you are ready for your burst round and have some nice extra damage when you get hit
Weird place to post this but whatever, I'm excited. I just found out my 10 year old nephew has started playing D&D, I couldn't be happier. Christmas presents; Icewind Dale Trilogy and the Dragonlance Trilogy.
im kinda surprised it took this long but really glad you did bardbarian. probably my favorite build concept. never would of thought of throwing pali in, good idea. wonder if a version with hexblade would work. selling your soul for talent isnt unheard of :D
for merch, id buy some d4 dice :D always need more dice
Awesome build. Love bards. One thematic fighting style idea: Blind fighting. You know: Blind Rage!
Love this build! I'm currently playing a Bard'barian (Barbarian (Zealot) 4/Bard (Whispers) 10/Warlock (GOO) 1). Much more like your alternate option at the end. I took the warlock level mainly for roleplay reasons, but upcasting Armor of Agathys before you rage has been pretty choice if you can get it up before combat, which I usually can. I took Commune with Magical Secrets, one of the spells you recommended.
Also, a Bard'barain's Song of Rest if obviously Beth by Kiss.
the fucken chuckle at the name bard-barian is what convinced me to finish this hour long video you glorious bastard
😂😂
Polearm master w/ quarterstaff the r spear. Auto adds modifier to the bonus action attack. Dueling can be added to it. Can wear a shield with it for +2 AC. And a moderately reliable opportunity attack when creatures enter your reach.
Is just better, can call yourself using exes or w/e you want.
Possible power-build race for this build: Thri-Kreen. It gets a few abilities that really help.
First, obviously, is the four arms. In the build as written, you can change one of your battleaxes to a handaxe to use in one of your secondary arms, and use a shield. You get an AC bump of +1 or +2, depending on if your DM lets you stack Dual Wielder AC and the shield bonus.
The other, possibly better option, is a greataxe in your two main hands, and two hand axes in your small hands. Now you attack once with Greataxe for more damage, including possibly GWM, and then two attacks with the handaxes.
What’s more metal than a 9-foot-tall rocking Barbarian with three axes?
An alternative to zealot is beast barbarian, which gives you a bit more utility on the rage and the claws let you make a third attack if at least one attack was made with the claws. This means you can add on one more smite instead of the once per turn zealot damage, since the claws count as simple melee weapons.
I was thinking Bear Totem, extra damage resistance.
It reads Each of your hands transforms into a claw, which you can use as a weapon if it’s empty. so i don't think you can dual wield and claw?
@@liamgray3335 yup you can't. twf doesn't work with unarmed strikes or natural weapons as per JC.
the number of smites will be the same as you cant dual wield with the claws. using beast barbarian though frees up the bonus action slot so if he took war cleric or was using polearm master he can smite 1 extra time.
I rarely comment on this channel (wrongfully so), but I must do it now to say that I'm thrilled that you're getting sponsored, and I'm absolutely hyped that you're sponsored by Son of Oak. I've been playing City of Mist since they first released the initial Starter Set (there were only 6 characters at the time, and the Core Book wasn't even out yet), and loved it ever since.
I'm currently playing my third long running campaign of this game, alongside other games like 5e, and we're still having a blast.
I hope someone like you talking about CoM will bring more people from 5e to this kind of game (PbtA and the games that followed like Blades in the Dark or City of Mist) because they bring so much things that 5e lack, and therefore helped me and my friends improve our D&D games sooooooo much !
One mind blowing takeaway for me is that magical secrets plays off highest level bard spell known, not merely by highest level spell slots.
My song of rest would be "carry on my wayward son". I am a supernatural fan.
Little surprised to see you didn't grab one more level of Paladin to take the oath of conquest. Great video!
I really like this thematically, it reminds me of all the hybrid classes in pathfinder where the developers essentially made classes of popular things people wanted to multi-class, hence the existence of the skald, a bard whose battle rage actually made allies rage as their bardic ability. Absolute madness when combined with a mob of villagers or martial ally players. And the best thing they did is allow these classes to do things others couldn’t like rage and cast spells.
I once made a Half-Orc Paladin 2 / Sword Bard 18. Feats Great Weapon Master and Orcish Fury.
He was a carry over from a build in pathfinder that used the Scythe in combination with Sleep/Hold Person/Hold Monster to auto-crit.
In 5e, i used Great-axe with as many ways of increasing the critical damage as possible. Ended up with 6d12+10d8+17 times 3 attacks, all Crits from a Hold spell. 333 average damage.
Flavor-wise, he was an executioner by trade, and wore heavy armor(think sauron's armor). In the theater of my mind, he battled very similar to Kira from Bleach. He would use spells with the purpose of chewing through legendary resistences, then Trap the foe into this state of submission where he would chop off their head or cause HEAVY damage.
You and I both know how hard it was to restrain yourself from one more fighter level for Echo Knight and unleash incarnation. Growth, Colby.
I can do hard things.
For the magical secrets, I'd go find greater steed like Colby suggested, and then I'd go steel wind strike. I feel like it's not only powerful, but fits the theme of the character as well
I've always wanted a bardbarian, I just really didn't think it would be viable. Huge props, thanks d&d:o!!!!
Merch ideas:
* dice bag
* Messenger bag for books and laptop
* dice tray for rolling quietly in a contained space
* mini protector (space for 1-6 minis)
* supplemental phone/tablet app
* dice tower
* initiative tracker
* branded play mat
* stein /mountain dew mug
App ideas:
* dice roller (submitting the app takes more time than writing the code to give you a random number)
* sound bank (success/fail/combat/death type sound effects)
* thematic music - I would go in the direction of video game music structure rather than movie music structure. Packs of songs can be released in the future to be purchased as groups or individually. The basics can be background sound effects (think crickets, clanking dishes, lapping waves) for a city, village, tavern, mob, forest, river, ocean. Also some number of music tracks for rest, and combat. The goal for most music is to just be in the background for atmosphere.
* character builder - it may be easier to go low res and retro and do an 8 bit or 16 bit thing. You would want to make sure this exports in a usable format for the modern crop of digital gaming environments.
* something to track magic item usages and capability better than dndbeyond.
I ran a bardbarian focused on Athletics for grapple checks. He was a Lore Bard that used cutting words to lower enemy checks and would frequently push enemies prone before grappling them. You need movement to get up from prone and being grappled takes that away, locking the enemy down and letting everyone wail on them with advantage.
Song of rest: "Warrior's Prayer" ! :D
i’m definitely grabbing a shirt when it’s ready! you should add in a snuggie option ha!
also if you added in baby clothes i would totally dress my 4 month old in your merch lol
So helpful, building a old school doppelganger char. Was struggling with how to make them narratively shifting from a duregar barb to a skinny Dragonborn bard but still b mechanically useful. That extra atk bro ...
I can't believe it. You still had cards at the end of the video! That has to be a first.
Song of rest, Wishmaster by Van Canto.
Also wanted to add I appreciate the work you do and really brightened a bad day for be today. Thanks for making me feel welcome
Yay! Sorry you had a bad day . Glad I could help!
Glad you had son of Oak back to sponsor :D City of Mist is pretty incredible. Super Powers/Supernatural wrapped in a more modern setting (think noir 50s up to modern day or set it earlier as you please) -- steeped in mysteries of the most wondrous and sinister types = it is so much FUN! Run a one shot - I dare you and the crew _not_ to get addicted ! It is pretty awesome! That said -- I was wondering about a SKALD like character so this one got me excited right from the get go!
My (Hard) Rock Gnome (pun intended) Zealotish Bardbarian has a Lute that has two fire starters at the head of the lute to produe flames when she play as well as a Music Box that gives her drums when playing. Only level 3 at the moment, but she will be awesome. Thanks for this!
Not sure if I requested/recommended it yet but a swords bard tank with AC stacking tactics may be a fun build few ppl are expecting. Could also get absorb elements at level 1 via the new strixhaven background feats (also gives you haste) and shield (spell and an actual one) at 2 via a single hexblade dip. Maybe adding battlemaster for goading attacks or rogue for evasion. Food for thought :)
This seems like a really fun character, and as a metal head I really want to give it a go sometime.
I like the thought of using Mystical Secrets to pick up at least one Paladin spell, since you aren't getting 5th level Paladin spells. Destructive Wave could be a great opener in a fight. Run up into combat, Destructive Wave, then BA rage. I would then look at party composition and grab whatever we really need, something like scrying, contact other plane, Teleportation Circle, Awaken, Wall of Force. One of those fun things
Master of Ceremonies is a great title for a referee. XD
Surely the song of rest is Nightmare by A7X. Imagine everyone taking a breath, eating something and trying to relax and then from the back you just hear "NIGHTMAREEEEE!!"
I was visualizing this build with lore bard as a WWF wrestler. Smack talk and flexing!
Song of rest: A Mongolian throat-singer
On the topic of craving variety, I know me, I always end up craving said variety, which is why I tend to build characters with both a support function and a secondary function, be that damage, tankiness, etc..
Having that flexibility is just important to me for the fun of the character, plus I like being helpful to my party in a variety of situations. Even if it means me multiclassing sometimes like a madman.
I like builds like the one presented in this video due to that built in variety and potential story intrigue.
The artwork reminds me of Nathan Explosion from Dethlock.
I actually played this combo in a mini series for a gladiator campaign (we leveled every session, so 1-20) and I went barbarian 8 ancestral guardians, paladin 8 (oath of ancients), and Lore Bard 4. More tanky, but still had some burst potential. Unfortunately not nearly as many slots for smiting, but really great damage reduction for allies. Was a mountain dwarf who basically channeled the power of his ancestors and the grand stories of their heroic exploits in order to defend his allies
I found your content fairly recently but I've now binge watched most of it, haven't seen this idea (maybe just missed it lol) but would love to see a super debuff character! Everything they do is dedicated to making their enemies worse!
Ok, will put it on the list :)
Great fun build. Loved it! Awesome theme. I would never played it cause I know I would die lol
Barbarian Warlocks are a good time too. I had a Dao Genie Warlock/Barbarian with Crusher knocking fools all over.
Ok, so at the point you take the barbarian subclass, go for the totem barbarian and take the eagle spirit. This will make you the ultimate taxi, willing or unwilling.
Basically, you have someone caste haste on you. Precast longstrider for extra effect. Also, be a centaur. That gives you a walking speed of 120ft. Then you grapple someone and make an attack with mobile flurry. Assuming both hit, you can then drag them along with you for 65 feet as a reaction, 65 feet as a bonus action and 65 feet as an extra action. On their turn they may attack you or break out of the grapple. On your turn you can return to the battle with a single bonus action dash, while they would likely need to dash for three turns before being able to enter melee.
basically you're a concentration-less banish spell.
This does require a DM agreeing that mobile flourish lets you use your gained reaction to move anywhere since you end up within 5 feet of the enemy. It also requires a bonus action for raging before you're able to use your bonus action to dash.
Song of rest...gonna have to be Enter Sandman 🧑🎤
You know, if we wanted to be less MAD and have even more classes, a Hexblade Warlock dip could be fun as well. It would delay Extra Attack even more, but give us more Point Buy points available for Dex and, depending on how far the dip goes, invocations could take the utility of the character to yet another level with one or two SR recharging Smite Slots
Hexblade only works on 1 weapon so makes dual weapons kinda pointless
Extra Rage damage and Reckless Attack only work if you use Strength to attack. If you’re doing this, there’s not a ton of purpose in taking Barbarian.
I recently theoried a lore bard that uses the 8 free spells from any class to make a Siren type character that uses water spells and charm spells. You can acquire them all from Druids, who get all the water spells in the game except misty step, if you count that, but that can be achieved with the feytouched feat.
(I decided to swap out water breathing for wish though because I want to use tsunami without the ridiculous cast time)
Anyway, I thought youd like the idea and I hope that you could eventually optimise a build around tsunami. It is easily my favourite spell flavourwise but the aforementioned cast time just makes it so impractical.
Thanks for the content! :D
Will put it on the list!
@@DnDDeepDive Wow, thank you!

Hey Colby. This sounds very much like the Viking Skald. If you had started with the Mountain Dwarf, you could have had Medium armor and Battleaxe at 1st level while being a Bard. I am building mine with Eladrin Elf as a Bard. My rest song is 'We're Not Going to Take It'. Combat song is 'We Will Rock You'. /
This sounds like the Viking skald, crossed with a heavy metal musician.
I like this build, support is frequently overlooked in D&D. Then you become a major damage dealer.
Cody and interesting thing: I've been trying to make both a witchelf (Warhammer fantasy) and wardancer builds (not from Warhammer but can be used as a reference: total war Warhammer wood elves)
The above are references, they don't have to be elves if you could figure out a way to make them work.
The original music is back. All praise the Bardbarian 😂 can’t wait to watch the rest of the video if it’s starting off this good 😊
Yo! Sick concept art. We dig the art and plug to the artistic, and approachable, book by your friend "Randal" (sorry for any misspelling)
The city of mists unboxing was wicked too. Really cool art and considerate package for new and experienced TTRPG players
I made a similar build, with a completely different objective.
Start with a warforged, for +1 to AC.
First level is barbarian, with unarmored defense your AC is 17, 19 with a shield.
At level three pick bear totem, for resistance to nearly every damage type.
Level four gives you +2 con, for a lot of hp and an AC of 20.
Then go for two paladin levels, pick the defense fighting style, for an AC of 21 and get smites.
Then close it off with fourteen levels of swords bard. Pick the duelist fighting style and Cap of Con and Dex with your three ASIs for an AC of 24. At level six you get extra attack. This would make you the weird barbarian who uses Dex on attacks, but it's okay, since reckless attack would give more to your opponents than to you, due to your high AC, also you don't have brutal critical and you rage damage bonus would only give you a +4 with the two attacks, while your AC bonus gives you a +10.
The cool thing is the fourteenth level of swords bard, which let's you use a d6 for blade flourishes instead of your bardic inspiration die.
This means that you have two attacks each round, each deals 1d8+7 and you can add a d6 to one of them, also you have more smites than a level twenty paladin and an AC that fluctuates from 25 to 30 each round (average AC 27/28). In addition to that you are great outside of combat, with six skill proficiencies, four with expertise, jack of all trades and even cool spells to help
