I'm a fan of packing light and there are some great tips. Others have commented on weight limits, and I have to say that is the most difficult part. Here in Australia ALL airlines have a strict weight limit of 7 kilograms (15.4 lbs) of carry-on luggage per person. As you are boarding, you will likely have your bag weighed, and they will ask you to surrender it to be checked in below. Make sure you have a small carry bag/satchel to keep the things you need to take out and carry on board with you (ID documents, cards, books, devices etc.). Size matters, but so does weight. Some budget airlines let you prepurchase an additional 7 kilos. Don't wait to do it at the airport as it will cost dearly. Laundromats are fun to visit while travelling. You will meet real people. Plan a laundry day every 10 days or so, and you will manage fine with less clothing. Enjoy it all!
Man 7Kg is low. I've struggled with 10Kg I think from a German airline and 15Kg seems to be the norm for UK airlines. My general amount is 10-12Kg. But they don't usually weigh it if it looks under. Australian airport staff are not hard core though. Israeli airport staff even more so. They scan your carry on and manually sift through it.

I have lived and traveled around the world with a carry-on. I travel ultralight, half of what is presented for men is this video. A packing trick I learned while I was in the military.. One can easily and cheaply often buy things needed in foreign markets and street vendors. I usually keep spare room in my carry-on for newly needed purchased items.

Where the 😮 was this list all my life, this makes so much sense😊 I always travel light (small / mini car, with 2 kids and a big dog, so packing light is a must) but this takes not much space but gives so much more options for clothing. Thank you for sharing this video😊 only thing ive got to add is mountain shoes, we walk to much for these kind of shoes in the video😅 So many tips to use or integrate💫
Brilliant! Love the way you both interchanged so well in your presentation. What you packed and how you packed so much - Amazing! 👏 ✨️ 😍 🙌 Loved sharing this time with both of you. Thanks for great channel 👍 👌 from Denmark 🇩🇰
Thanks so much!! I watched this like an eager student with notepad in hand. You helped me decide to go strictly carry-on and you helped me make decisions regarding my packing list....bring or not!! Super!!
Very useful I was planning to buy two Large suitcases, for the trip to Ireland. But then I saw a video from you and I like, oh duh. But I'm an author and I don't want to leave my books behind. So I'll have to ship them via DHL Express to the Hotel. Because this is a permanent trip to Ireland. Work related.
Yes and when travelling different airlines have different weight and size restrictions. So these bags would be too big and heavy . In Thailand it’s 5kg for carry on luggage and several long distance airlines .
Exactly. Lots of different weights and sizes for cabin luggage to be stored in the overhead locker and under the seat in front of you depending on airlines with some budget airlines charging for cabin luggage in Europe. All the videos I've seen so far produced by American packing carry on, their bags are checked into hold luggage.
You had some great ideas I look forward to implementing soon; thanks. Enjoyed your conversational, interactive presentation. Loved how Nik looks at you with such love and appreciation, too! So sweet! ❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I never knew that dry shampoo powder existed! I was dreading having to wash my hair every couple of days whilst away (I always have to blow dry) but now I don’t have to! 👍😊
Awesome video! despite many years of traveling, I still manage to over pack. I’m seriously going to try to follow your advice and do carry-on only with a backpack.
Awesome video! Thank you! And actually the locking gadget isn’t so much for if your lock doesn’t work as it is for added security. Very popular amongst solo female travelers because you can put it on hotel doors or air bnb doors, both places where someone else has a key that allows access. 😊
@@awaytogether has anyone mentioned taking a rubber door stopper instead of the “bust” lock? I’m a first time long haul traveler and I’m a single female. One “con” was in the case of true emergency it may take too much time to get it off. One “pro” of the rubber stopper was that it can just be kicked away. I am an overly detailed “what if” thinker, yet traveling carryon only. Peace of mind as to my safety while sleeping is paramount, yet I don’t want to over complicate things. Help?
This video was awesome. I haven’t traveled much but my favorite thing is using only a carry on bag because it saves you so much time. When it went to DR, I took a carry on suitcase (researched JetBlue thoroughly for requirements), a backpack that carried other things, and a Fanny pack that carried my passport, phone, etc. to have on hand. My biggest mistake was having the backpack not double as a beach bag. It was too bulky so I ended up bringing a smaller canvas bag in my backpack. The ski mask you had can come in handy if you’ll be doing activities that involves dust/dirt as well!
For hair, I can also recommend cleansing conditioner. This stuff works well if you are in places with less than stellar water pressure as it is easier to rinse out of the hair than shampoo. I have waist length hair, shampoo and I have a contentious relationship on the road... For jewelry, I've learned to take minimal. Earrings, one pair two-tone dangle, one pair each silver and gold stud. I don't take rings as your fingers tend to swell when travelling. I might pack a two-tone chain if I think I'll be going to a fancy place. This fit in a small changepurse I kept with my hair items.
Didn't see the link for the suitcase, but that's not a Carry-on pro, the pro got the front sleeve for electronics. That looks like a Carry-on Plus if im wrong, which might be too big for international carry-on. Great video keep up the good work
Some good suggestions here; however, I'm Australian and airlines have a 7.5 kg carry-on allowance here. I travel to Bali often. My next trip, I will take a suitcase full of things I don't need in Australia, to add to the Bali suitcase that I leave over there. For the second and third trips to Bali this year, I plan on travelling carry-on only. Carry-on will include my laptop, travel essentials, charging cords etc. The things I need to take over and bring back home again to use.
Ok. So get you on the 3 pairs of shoes for women, great choices for the climate your were going to. 3 pairs in Ireland in late Autumn through winter? Black chunky heeled boots on the plane. Nice waterproof PV lug soled chelsea boots and black Skechers trainers in the carry on. Fill them up with socks and underwear and an extra scarf or gloves. Love my Birks and flips, just don't suit all situations. I love and agree with what y'all said. You gave to take the info and make it your own. 😊❤😊 I would Really love to see a cold weather pack hack to see how it compares to what I've been doing for years. I've got my system but, yeah, ALWAYS room for improvement and tweeks!😊❤😊
Thank you for mentioning how many undies and socks you packed. I’ve been watching lots of travel packing videos and no one seems to mention the number of undies. So appreciate it.
I packed for 2 weeks in Europe much less clothing. it worked pretty well, Of course, it depends on what you are planning to do, the season you are going and the place itself.
We too like to pack light and have found laundrettes in USA or NZ /laundries in rural Peru and Asia, or handwashing, no problem. I'm surprised to see no mention of contraception or period products. Personal, but hey we're all adults here and "3rd person" information about different countries can be useful. I believe that contraceptives are illegal in some countries ? And I have found sanitary products can be sized much smaller in some asian countries for the more slender locals. Some travellers use moon cups which gets around the problem of disposal and repurchase off the beaten track / saving the planet.
You need an additional light across the front of the table so we can see the dark objects when you hold them up guys. Thanks for the video. Loved that you packed all that stuff in small cases.
Thanks so much for your tips! I’ll just mention that Tylenol/acetaminophen is not always available for purchase . I searched Italy for it and some pharmacists didn’t even know that I was talking about. I later learned they don’t sell or use it there. There were alternatives, but with my allergies I learned me lesson and now always being some with me. 😊
Compressable down jacket sounds very wise! I am surprised at the amount of clothes that you take. We also only take carry on. Everything, even my backpack of items for the plane ride, must fit into my Rick Steves wheelie carry on. When i land at my destination airport i put everything in my wheelie so i only have my wheelie to watch over on the busy metro ride to our accomadations. We wash our undergaments (underwear and socks) out in the sink each night cutting down on the number of items that we need to bring. For our 4 week trip i brought 3 pair of wool socks, 1 bra and 4 underwear. I carried a Daiso shopping bag in my purse which i used every day.
Thanks for watching! It was a challenge to pack for 6 whole months that would cross both winter in very cold places and summer in very hot places. Plus we were filming 100% of it so there was a little pressure to look cute haha. Appreciate your feedback though!
Hi love your videos. I downloaded your packing list and on the Women's clothing side there seem to be a couple of items left off. 1. a pair of jeans/long pants 2.swimsuit/sun protection top. No need to pack a hairdryer either as the majority of hotels have them in the rooms. Leave the straightener at home! Treat yourself to a blow dry at the local salon
OMG!!! I can't. believe it. When I saw Allie stuff's, I was wondering how she could fit all of that? I practically will fit those things into my checked bag. Wow, it's eye-opening that you can fit lots of stuff in carry-on luggage? Thank you for your video, I clicked your video because I was curious about how to better pack your carry-on with lots of stuff. I always think that carry-on can't fit anything that much. They are just too small. Wow, you guys have proven me wrong! I'm going to try it for my next trip.
Love those microfiber towels. I have a couple in different sizes. They are awesome. The beach sized one is my favorite. I still over pack just a little bit but I am getting better. Thanks for all the tips and tricks.
Aren't they great? The temptation to overpack is still strong with us. I (Nik) probably could have gotten by with a few less things. Thanks for watching!
What was your weight limit? Many airlines have a limit of 7kgs (15lbs) plus your personal item, so I'm amazed at how much you were able to take. I had a trip all planned for 2020 - 2 years in India using carry-on only (Osprey Fairview 40litre) at 7kgs plus small personal bag. Had it all weighed, organised and pared down. Then the pandemic busted those plans (not complaining, as we got off very lightly here in New Zealand). Just doing 3 months at the end of this year, and then longer travel when I'm able to.
I'm also curious about this. What is packed in the travel rolling suitcase plus backpacks definitely look like more than 7 kilos. I'm gonna be in asia for four months (4 countries/24 cities) and a LOT of the little planes there are very strict, I'm told. I'm thinking I'm gonna check my larger rolling case for that very reason, and then carry a small backpack and lightweight travel purse/bag as carry on unless you can convince me everything you showed was under the 7kilo limit. PS. I'm not a skinny thing like Allie - so larger sized clothes also take more space and weigh more (just like me! haha). That also has an effect on the size / weight of the carry ons. Havent seen anyone address this.
Yep, their bags would have been 19lbs/8.6kg. (I do the same pack for NZ) and take a risk. You do a dance with the personal item, but if you get an employee having a bad day you might be in trouble with certain airlines. Great video though.
Ok, one last, thanks for the I brought my makeup bag. ❤😊😊😊❤ So many single carry vids are minimalist on the make up. Like I brought and eyeliner and slightly tinted lip balm. That's cool and all, but I like my makeup, and always pack it. Smaller than what would be athlme, but, yeah, I want a full face so edays, and my brushes. Brill fav are double ended brushes. I pack a small microfiber face cleaning cloth for my brushes. I can't use them on my face, way so irritating. I do pack more skincare in moisturizer from home, sensitive. I love DHC washing powder for my face, super lush and delicate for my skin, dry powder so tsa no bother, a bottle lasts for ages. Great to pack, use and yeah. Recommend❤😊❤
A lot of airlines only allow 7kg carry on , and that includes your personal item ,....I have seen them weigh carry on bags at the gate , so check with your airline , its not always the size of the carry on
Could you show the weight of your carry-on bags once everything is packed? And what airlines are you traveling with around europe and asia? Because the budget airlines around asia and europe, those are not considered carry-on.
🤣🤣🤣 wish Allie was in New Zealand so she could assist with my crew's baggage, packing etc for our 1st trip to Europe in Jan 2024. Great videos thanks. PS..Nik this was for the ladies 🙈🙈
This was a great and informative idea! Thanks so much for walking us thru it. I’m still curious about how you decide to pack what where…. Know what I mean? Like…what do you put at the bottom and hard to reach and what do YOU like to keep handy
thanks for adding links to your purchable items. Would also be nice to see a summary of the number/types of clothing items packed so that I didnt have to go back and rewatch (pen in hand.) Great video tho. Very practical. Thanks
Great tips! For my carry on, i only bring one set of clothes in addition to what i’m wearing. And then i’ll just buy a very cheap clothing to where i’m traveling and just leave it there when i’m leaving. That gives me more mobility.
I’ve heard of people that but inexpensive clothing items from Goodwill, Salvation Army and Savers. They will leave the items so they have room for souvenirs.
I am amazed at how much people are able to pack into carry-on...considering the very limiting weight restrictions and size regards carry-on....I am taking only carry-on and am not able to pack even half!..of what you guys are showing..and I am not even taking a laptop or camera gear!..Also...as for the door lock....I am going to carry a lightweight door wedge....Can push it under any door..(might need to add something underneath to add height depending)..And it stops folks just walking in when you need to have privacy even if they have a key like staff. ..It gives you time to react to someone who wants to enter for what ever reason..And it takes up very little space!.
I will say, we were close to the absolute limit of what our bags would carry. We only ran into issues a few times and it was (you guessed it) due to weight. Specifically in Asia. It was tough to pack for 6 full months and multiple seasons (extremes in temperature). If we'd only gone to one climate or very similar climates it would have been a little less. And good call on the door wedge! Thanks for watching.
@@awaytogether I know it could be annoying to carry things you feel are not being used..Space & weight etc...of course understandable...But you could say the same for a first aid kit...You hope not to use it..And may never use it...But you'd be glad to have it if anything happened...Considering they are not the most expensive things to buy..Here in the UK you can get one for about £4 or less if you look..So you could leave it behind when you need to travel by air..OK it's money...But no more than a sweet treat or snack in most places...so not to much when you really think about...And considering the kinds of countries and regions you are staying it..I would think it would be handy to have when needed...Just my thoughts on it..I am taking one to Japan for the very real posibblity of earthquakes etc...Though I could probably take my own advice, haha! and buy one when I get there to save weight for flying!.....As for the doorwedge..give it a try..see how you feel about it..Certainly lighter than the door gadget you had..and would suit most if not all doors...It just gives you time to react if anyone tries to come in unexpectedly..Not perfect of course, but better than nothing at all...Even if you lock the door...Staff have keys..>Sorry about my typin.

When it was said and done, I preferred the Osprey 40L's. They seemed like they would be more comfortable if we had to do a longer foot movement that we'd like to.
Safe travels!
Congrats on your new little traveller. 🎉
I am so glad I found y'all! I am headed to Machu Picchu and the Galapagos in May. I would really like to only take just a carry on and backpack. I think I am on the 5th video of yours. Yep, I am binge watching and enjoying all of the useful info. Carry on, you two! Thank you for all the helpful info!
5:17 Holy cow that’s a lot of clothing! I can’t wait to see how you fit it all in.
No way you can get away with that in most parts of the world
Just half way through a 6 month travel I wish I’d seen this before we left home. Thank you guys. Very very useful.
Where the 😮 was this list all my life, this makes so much sense😊 I always travel light (small / mini car, with 2 kids and a big dog, so packing light is a must) but this takes not much space but gives so much more options for clothing. Thank you for sharing this video😊 only thing ive got to add is mountain shoes, we walk to much for these kind of shoes in the video😅
So many tips to use or integrate💫
Brilliant! Love the way you both interchanged so well in your presentation. What you packed and how you packed so much - Amazing! 👏 ✨️ 😍 🙌
Loved sharing this time with both of you. Thanks for great channel 👍 👌 from Denmark 🇩🇰
Thanks so much!! I watched this like an eager student with notepad in hand. You helped me decide to go strictly carry-on and you helped me make decisions regarding my packing list....bring or not!! Super!!
Very useful
I was planning to buy two Large suitcases, for the trip to Ireland. But then I saw a video from you and I like, oh duh. But I'm an author and I don't want to leave my books behind.
So I'll have to ship them via DHL Express to the Hotel. Because this is a permanent trip to Ireland. Work related.
A lot of smaller airlines in Australia were weighing cabin bags which included any handbags and laptops and can only now weigh 7kg
So sweet! ❤
Thanks Julie! Really appreciate your feedback.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I never knew that dry shampoo powder existed! I was dreading having to wash my hair every couple of days whilst away (I always have to blow dry) but now I don’t have to! 👍😊
I’m glad you mentioned your “bust”. I was wondering why you were traveling with those things.
Awesome video! despite many years of traveling, I still manage to over pack. I’m seriously going to try to follow your advice and do carry-on only with a backpack.
Thanks so much for watching! I know right? Even with years of experience the temptation to bring more is always there.
Good information. You guys look like you really like each other.
Awesome video! Thank you! And actually the locking gadget isn’t so much for if your lock doesn’t work as it is for added security. Very popular amongst solo female travelers because you can put it on hotel doors or air bnb doors, both places where someone else has a key that allows access. 😊
Great feedback! We'll be sure to highlight that perspective in a future video. Thanks for watching.
As a solo female traveler, I have one and will always take it even if I don’t end up using it. Peace of mind is priceless.
Help?
Absolutely amazing! Well done! Really enjoyed this. Thanks for taking the time to put together such a comprehensive video and list. 👏
Great video keep up the good work
On the way to Portugal in two weeks! Thanks for the info.
Thanks, Nik & Allie❤. You are super helpful!
you bet! Happy travels
I would Really love to see a cold weather pack hack to see how it compares to what I've been doing for years. I've got my system but, yeah, ALWAYS room for improvement and tweeks!😊❤😊
Thank you for mentioning how many undies and socks you packed. I’ve been watching lots of travel packing videos and no one seems to mention the number of undies. So appreciate it.
Girl always have a lot of things 😁😘
Thank you for this very informative video. Enjoy and keep safe always. God bless.
I packed for 2 weeks in Europe much less clothing. it worked pretty well, Of course, it depends on what you are planning to do, the season you are going and the place itself.
For sure! We had to cover multiple countries and seasons. Hope you had an awesome trip!
In Europe they call it paracetamol- But good idea to bring it
Thanks! I wasn’t sure it was the same thing and I have a lot of allergies, so I was hesitant to take it.
Learned a lot! And immediately subscribed. Thank you for the meticulous and helpful detail: team carry on only now!
Great info! Although, I have to say, that you pack waaaaay more than we do!
Good idea putting your puffer jacket into your neck pillow for the plane! 👍
Isn’t that so cool?
So very helpful!!! Great presentation. We leave in a few days and I started watching you several weeks ago. Thank you!!!
Yes, I was thinking about the weight of the bags too!
Awesome video and tips!
Spikey ball is great for tight shoulders and to relieve your sore muscles if you climb hills or carry packs for a while.
Great video! Very helpful to hear from both perspectives!!
I have not looked through the comments, but your running/ski hood is called a balaklava. :) Great videos!
Thank you for such an informative video. I love your energy and honesty. I felt as if i was talking to a friend. So many great tips. Thank you
Everything is on point!
Interesting light packing tips.
This was really helpful! I’m going to Europe go 2 1/2 weeks with carry on only and I’m terrified I won’t fit everything I want to bring 😂
Not that easy to find laundromats in many European cities.
Awesome video! Super helpful!
Thanks for this video ❤
A lot of airlines only allow 7kg carry on , and that includes your personal item ,....I have seen them weigh carry on bags at the gate , so check with your airline , its not always the size of the carry on
Could you show the weight of your carry-on bags once everything is packed? And what airlines are you traveling with around europe and asia? Because the budget airlines around asia and europe, those are not considered carry-on.
your videos are a lot of fun.. and of course, very useful ❤
Awesome , you folks videos very informative and get value for our time in watching Cheers 😀👍
Great list
🤣🤣🤣 wish Allie was in New Zealand so she could assist with my crew's baggage, packing etc for our 1st trip to Europe in Jan 2024. Great videos thanks. PS..Nik this was for the ladies 🙈🙈
Loved all your videos! Hi from South India! You are a practical couple and I am going to do as you say, when I travel. Thanks so much
What a great and useful video. Many thanks.
These are great and creative ideas suggested for packing. 👍🏼
This was a great and informative idea! Thanks so much for walking us thru it. I’m still curious about how you decide to pack what where…. Know what I mean? Like…what do you put at the bottom and hard to reach and what do YOU like to keep handy
great video!! thank you, guys! I'm heading into a 6 months travel and my packing looks very similar!!
thanks for adding links to your purchable items. Would also be nice to see a summary of the number/types of clothing items packed so that I didnt have to go back and rewatch (pen in hand.) Great video tho. Very practical. Thanks
Very, very helpful!!! thank you.
Thank you for the video definitely learned a lot. I’ll be in Europe next month as well.
Great tips! For my carry on, i only bring one set of clothes in addition to what i’m wearing. And then i’ll just buy a very cheap clothing to where i’m traveling and just leave it there when i’m leaving. That gives me more mobility.
Raymond, that is the most hardcore thing I’ve ever heard! Nicely done 💪🏻
This. Either cheap ones or second hand then just donate them again.
I’ve heard of people that but inexpensive clothing items from Goodwill, Salvation Army and Savers. They will leave the items so they have room for souvenirs.
Very informative! Thank you ❤
New subscriber and loved it! Great, practical information and thank you for your honesty in the must/best section.
Thanks so much for watching!!!!!! We are happy to help and hope we can share what we’ve learned through our experience!
Hi! Have you had to check in your Monos carry on’s on international flights at all due to the size?
I also have this question
Where do you find the links you say are below? Can’t find it. Love your RUclips helps with traveling. We are going to Italy in October. Thanks for all of your advice.
Loved this! I love fashion, though, and it pains me not to have shoes for every occasion and the right clothes. 😂 Guess I need to get my priorities straight. Definitely harder for women!
Versatile shoes are a thing! Simple, unpretentious, made of good leather.
Awesome 💯 information

Contacts! I too use daily, tho greatly reduce the use as I have a good pair of prescription aviator sunglasses in a cool rose tint. I find I can get by with just the sunglasses on most days because the tint is so light & I forget they r on indoors & later in the day. Sooo I find myself only end up wearing dailies if it’s raining or I’m going out for a long night.
Heathrow counted my contacts as part of my quart sized baggie limit! O'Hare didn't.
Love your videos thabks for all things you guys always teach us. But one thing, for us in south America thinking on having all that merino clothes it's as expensive as our ticket for Europe. Would be nice to have other accessible clothing.. thank you ❤
Great job y'all. I particularly liked the time-lapse packing part since most videos don't show that.
Quick question: Your fav. adaptor at the end looks like the kind that would get pulled out of the socket when weighed down with cables. Was that a problem?
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful. Nope! Worked like a charm
Great video!!
Awesome idea on the HDMI cable! 🙌
Hi. I like Your videos, I did watch 10. I wish You continue do these videos,if You continue travel and / or home products too.
Very well done-thanks for some good ideas
