I cannot believe this year is already coming to a close - where the heck did 2021 go!? In this video I take some time to reflect on the year, on the channel and on life. I also leave you with some final thoughts as I prepare for 2022. First off, next year I am going to commit to creating the videos that I normally second guess and talk myself out of. Why? Making vids is about the fun and enjoyment I have creating them and exploring these ideas fosters even greater creativity - PLUS I think a bunch of you are going to have a lot of fun watching them. It is important to follow through on your creativity as it’s just too easy to go down the road of making content that is EXPECTED of you versus content that you are passionate about. This is a battle each one of us creators constantly face. Finally, the largest takeaway and best advice I will leave you with is DON’T follow influence, follow your PASSION. Passion is what gave you the drive and has helped you achieve all that you have so far, so it only makes sense to keep following it! Buckle up because 2022 is going to be a fun one!

There’s a quote that says, “Choose a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life,” but there’s something to be said about when your fun hobby turns into something that you “have” to do.
As RUclipsrs, we often find ourselves forcing out content just to meet a quota or to try to keep our audience satisfied. And when we’ve made the same type of content for a long time, it’s scary to try something new. I can hear the comments in my head before I even start a video.
I hope we can all find the courage to try new things in 2022!

Depends really. Money is the real driver. You start listening to those around because the money is good and you don't want it to stop. Especially in the dog eat dog youtube world. Hence their are creators that only post whenever they feel like it and its usually a 10/10 cause they release when its ready. As opposed to being rushed to hit deadlines.

I think, as a content creator, one goal we all attain to reach, is to be able to do basically whatever we want, and know the audience is there for it. Sadly that isn't the case for the majority, I'd say. I know if I just decided, I'm no longer doing what is expected of me and just doing what I want, the dream of doing it full time, would be over. There is a small chunk of the audience that's there for anything, and those people rock. But a larger chunk would move on. You keep doing you Pete, been here for a long dang time, not going anywhere soon. :)

That doesn't mean you can't make a video you want from time to time and not worry about it not getting great views. Sometimes I do that, put a lot of work in and I know its not going to rank well, but its still satisfying to make.

I agree, RUclips is my creative outlet and I love making videos. I also have a wide variety of interests so trying to balance what my interests are and what's expected of me is a tough balance to maintain. For 2022, I'm full sending it and whatever I feel like creating for that particular week I'm going to try my best to make it stay true to what I've already built but showcase more of my interests.

I’m leaning my whole life towards perfecting my craft in jewelry creation and documenting my journey through RUclips and running my own window cleaning business to fund it all and there’s so many different things to be worried about all the time and I can definetly resonate with a lot of what you said, I often find myself in the same loop of “what would the viewers wanna see” or “how can I make a viral video to grow my following” but at the end of the day it’s questions like that which kill the passion for video creation, thank you for reminding us that it’s still our channel and we’re ALOUD to post whatever we want regardless of what people say. Literally, I have a go-to playlist named "Pete's Best" filled with my favorite videos of yours that I watch whenever I'm feeling down. Not necessarily the tutorials but some of the beautifully-put inspirations and golden nuggets that you spit out just by you being you. Hey Peter, I just wanted to thank you deeply for those last few sentences at the end. They just deeply resonated with me. I find that, with this job, we really can be isolated, and easily influenced by friends/fellow creators/the outside world to follow an « easy path » which everyone follows to make the largest audience happy. And it makes us okay but not truly fulfilled because this isn’t who we are or why we started this.
Just know that I feel exactly the same way and I will follow the same path as yours next year :) Doing what we really love, because whatever you do people will complain and be unhappy, might aswell please those who enjoy you for you. Hell, I’m sure at least 10% of your audience would watch a 10min vid of you just eating cereal and drinking coffee if they could.

I think there is something to be said for enjoying your craft. I always go back to the restaurant analogy: do you want to eat food from a chef that has no passion for what he is making?
Sure, some cook for a living but some cook because they want to share with the world. It's the same with video and finding that balance is key.
Weirdly, I loved the first 5 minutes of this video more than most I've watched in a while. In a platform that is always trying to fit the most amount of information in the shortest time possible, I really felt like we could tune out and just chill with you. I watched this video, "15 minutes of nothing" to quote the man himself, and I loved it. Pete's just that good. He doesn't have to put a lot of effort into it, even just sitting by himself talking about things we'll be enjoying it.

Take photos, have fun while taking them also editing them. But do you know what I do at the end? I watch you. I take a look at the shots you’ve posted on ig and think about how I could take a different one, one day. I watch your videos and feel the companionship. I’ve been in your channel for 2 or 3 years but especially in this year, I see how honest you are. I see the difficulties and fun things, I try to imagine how it is like. Man, so much to say here. You've always been at your best when you go off into those little "Peterisms". I've watched you for the last 4 years and I've noticed the production value improve while, at times, the content seemed a bit like the content you think we expect.
