Hi everybody,
here is my last lesson from my RUclips series "How to improvise - Part 1 -8", it's over the complete minor II-V-I chord progression Dm7b5 - G7b9 - Cm7.
As always no talking, straight to point, no wasted time and with my step by step system. You will get the best results by using the additional tabs, neck diagrams and backing tracks available on my website.
If you master all the parts of this series of lessons, then you are ready for improvising over complete a jazz standard.
All the best for your playing!
I ordered for the lessons through your Website. I have been following the previous lessons. Could you please avail me of the backing tracks for lesson 1 to 4. Thanks

Obrigado meus amigos, boa sorte com sua prática! Saudações da Alemanha
Any more questions about the mysterious G HM5 scale ? here is the answer:
The G HM5 scale is basically a C harmonic minor scale (C D Eb F G Ab B C) starting with the 5th (G Ab B C D Eb F G),
look at the lesson part 6 ruclips.net/video/TCBgYfVpiPA/видео.html
thank you very much
You are amazing. In the states we call the G HM5 the Altered Dominant, Jamie Abersold calls it the diminished/whole tone scale. Thanks fro your great videos. I'm on my way.
Hi Eric, I know there are different names for the same scale, but I like the HM5 the most, because you see in the name that's the basic is the harmonic minor scale, for me it's easier to remember when the going get's tough. All the best for your playing!
@@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar I think HM5 would not be the G altered scaled. G altered scale would be MM7 (7th mode of Ab melodic minor). HM5 would give us Phrygian-Dominant (also called Mixolydian b2, b6).Both scales are very close (lots of common notes), though. Great tutorial btw!
Hi Akhim
thanks for this great video but at 2:48 you write D Dorian scale and later on you play the D Locrian...I 'm surprise.
Unfortunately a mistake of mine, it must be D locrian over Dm7b5, thanks for comment
Excellent! I wonder what sound he uses...
guitar sound i think
Hi Achim😊
Could you do a walking bass lesson? Please.
Here is my lesson: ruclips.net/video/X7F_BSC1bos/видео.html&ab_channel=AchimKohl
Thankyou that's a great lesson.
Best 👍 Steve
I love it, but what is ghm5?
The G HM5 scale is basically a C harmonic minor scale (C D Eb F G Ab B C) starting with the 5th (G Ab B C D Eb F G), look at the lesson Part 6 for more information. Best regards
Some call it harmonic minor mode 5, others call it phrygian dominant.
