What a great story! Thanks for sharing it with us. I've loved "Dirty Jobs" for a long time, but only yesterday did I discover your RUclips channel. Your parents are such delightful people.
FYI, the doctor who developed enhanced musical abilities after being struck by lightning was Tony Sicoria. I have seen him performing his original composition, "Lightning Sonata," right here on RUclips. It's a beautiful song. I don't blame Mr. Rowe for hoping that he too would receive a special talent after lightning struck the building. But hey, a new television from Circuit City is also a very nice outcome. :)
I think Dr. Siccoria actually had an NDE - he did “die” and come back from being struck by lightning…thus, explains his extraordinary musical ability…I don’t think Mike Rowe’s parents “died” from being struck by lightning, thank goodness..lol
Having heard a few examples of your mother's writing and her impressive ability to describe a scene so that my vision of it encompasses the sights, sounds, and smells of the actual event, I get a definite sense for where your own talents and skills were born. Much as I would enjoy a casual conversation with you, I think I would actually prefer one with your parents.
You are a lucky man Mike. True analytical types, like your dad, make the best fathers. I know. I've done the research. I will be happy to send you a copy of the spreadsheet. ; )
Your parents are awesome Mike, Your mom has a great sense of humor. My mom used to watch Dirty Jobs often, but would refer to the show as "Dirty Mike". With a little bit of a Hispanic accent, her recap of your show had us in stitches. She'd say "OOO my gah(god), pobrecito(poor) Dirty Mike.... to-they(today) he was cover in caca!" Every now and then she'll say "I miss my Dirty Mike"
Mike, your parents need to have their own sitcom. I can picture an elderly couple's banter on a weekly time slot at 8! I'm sure they'd be a huge success. Love it!
Oh Mike, if God could have blended my parents with my husband's the result would have been your parents. I lost both my mother and father just a few years ago but it's a joy every time I listen to the stories you share from your mother, as it brings back so many memories of my parents. Thank you for that and God bless you! Cherish each moment you have with them (and their adorable quirks!)
$1.52 per hour.....your Father's commitment and mother's words provided me with genuine amusement and chuckles....Im a fan for life, and I will always appreciate the work that you do and the wisdom that you share....cheers Mike Rowe. (I love your family.)
That brought back some fond memories! Both of my folks are gone now, but they both wrote short stories for our local newspaper and luckily I have all of them. They had the humor and writing ability like your mom. Forever treasured! What a great story that was!
Or Charley Weaver (Cliff Arquette) when he would say “and now a letter from Mamma” & proceed to read a letter from his Mama from back home in Mount Idy.
Mike, your mom is a talented writer who should use her powers for good! I mean, I guess she's already doing that but she needs a grander stage! She had me rolling and laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes! Thank you mom Rowe!
Lol I love your mom. You get your sense of humor from her. Love the pod casts as well. Thank you for sharing her with all of us. Your reaction is priceless. Melody
Your mothers letters are my daily smile, belly laugh! She is awesome and you reading them , well lets just say you two could go on the road with this show! Thank you both:)
Mike, you & your folks are priceless! Thank you! You have kept me in stitches since the Q days. I think we're family by now,. Blessings! Jackie in NY state
It’s stories like this that help us find humor in life, events, and ourselves. Gives us assurance everything is going to be alright. Thanks for sharing this gem! Well written, well read.
OMFG! That was the second funniest thing I have ever heard! The lost purse story is number 1! I just added meeting your mom to my bucket list! Just tell me where to go and who to call. Thanks Mike!!!
I cryed. listening to you read a letter from your parents. ( I'm an orphan and thus have never experienced this. but it was as I imagined. thank you for sharing that letter.)
Really enjoyed your letters from your mom! The lighting story was great as well as Old Blue purse left dangling at walmart. Too funny mike thanks for sharing I really love the way your mother see things so clear and your Dad no mystery there, too funny! Keep sharing , and thanks to my little sister, she shared these moments with me, in an email, go figure...San
I can't even begin to tell the world how honest, to-the-point and true the Rowe family (Peg, John & Mike) is. I wish everyone could experience them on some level - the honesty, character and reasonable attitude we all need especially now.. #LoveThis
Oh goodness ~ I had tears streaming down my face ... your parents are such a hoot! Ha ha! Thanks for sharing. My daughter told me about these a couple of hours ago, so I just had to watch.
I just found you yesterday on RUclips. The men in my family love you and talk about you often, so I'm not totally unaware of who you are, but oh my gosh....you are just too, too funny!!! I absolutely love hearing you read these letters from your hysterical mother! Thank you so much for sharing her.....I haven't laughed this hard in years! My 89 year old father lives with me and I think I might surprise him with her books. Again, thank you from Minnesota!!!!
Mike your mother is hilarious. How cute is she. U are so fortunate to have such wonderful parents. I saw them in one of your commercials. They are adorable. I laughed through your whole story. Mike I just found u today on YT. I subbed today also. I love your attitude Mike . You make my day. So refreshing from all the political turmoil.
Mike, Your mother is a GodSend. A light for the ages! I'm laughing just like you. PS. Your father is gloriously smitten with irony and gufaw! all the best!!!!
Mike, you've outdone yourself again...I can't stop from crying of laughter. .thanks so much. it's real life that's the best story. My wife and I got blasted once but no real enlightenment.. I think I need to upgrade to a lightning rod. then again, All the 70's baked me already!!! We all could use enlightenment from time to time. .Thanks for sharing! !!
Awesomeness! I am Crow Indian & Oklahoma Choctaw, I have been struck directly by Lightning 4 times, twice durings 2 Fasts, we view it as being Blessed!
Great story. I too was struck by lightning while driving my Ford E350 work van on an interstate bypass. It hit my radio antenna, besides scaring the crap out me and setting my ears ringing the only things that was damaged was my antenna of course, just a black spot where it had been mounted, the radio also was fried, and for some reason the gas gauge no longer worked correctly, everything else in the vehicle was OK, I immediately stopped by a quick stop and purchased a lottery ticket, and yes it's true, it is easier to get hit by lightning than winning the lottery.
I would love to have an audio album of your stories... mother's emails.... your voice is soothing, and it beats anything out there in 'entertainment world'. Thank you for your stories, and thank your mom!
Hello Mike-- Chuck from Napa, here-- These 'letters from mom' are a wonderful tonic for whatever ales ya! This one was particularly great and found myself LOLing many times. Sadly, my Mom, Dad and Sister are gone, but these stories bring back some fabulous memories of them and hopefully the promise of things to come. I'm 12 years older than you and am enjoying my age (for the most part-- ha!). Hope to meet you one of these days... CC.... PS - Tom's post from 7 mos ago is a great idea. I would be totally supportive if you brought back Paul Harvey's, "THE REST OF THE STORY", to the airwaves and you certainly hosting and producing it--- all the best to you and the family-- Merry Christmas to all!
Would like to say Mike I have been following you for years, since Dirty Jobs surprised right? I think you are one of the greatest icons out there. Your level headed smart and funny. I know you been busy doing "Returning the favor" which again another great show, every time one come out I watch it. Just trying to show my gratitude for the work you do and continue doing. Not telling you anything you already don't know, your blessed with a great family and I think a great fan base. The things you do does show a positive impact and that what I like. Your real and people see that and its that's what we like, keep it real my friend and keep up the great works.
I love how you and your parents interact. Thanks for sharing those little gems! They always make my day. 😂
I gave my mother an I Pad in the hospital, she has terminal cancer, and told her about your show. Thank you so much for putting a smile on her face.
What's great about this reading... is your reaction. You obviously have a deep love for your parents and their antics.
That was so funny I had to mop my tears of laughter. Yes, your mum should write a book.
Love that you share your mothers letters with all of us! 😁
What a great story! Thanks for sharing it with us. I've loved "Dirty Jobs" for a long time, but only yesterday did I discover your RUclips channel. Your parents are such delightful people.
Your mother is a great storyteller, she should write books. The subject matter doesn't even matter, I'd buy them all.
I was just about to say that exactly.
Oh, I'd buy them in a heartbeat.
She did. Number one on amazon
@@unclejustin7267 She just released another book!
I agree with you !

Thank you for sharing your clever mother’s letter! She is amazing!!

why is this video not NHL?
You are a lucky man Mike. True analytical types, like your dad, make the best fathers. I know. I've done the research. I will be happy to send you a copy of the spreadsheet. ; )
Tom Olofsson
Are you insinuating that you are a great dad? 😉
No insinuation intended I have objective proof. ; )
Tom Olofsson that description nailed me, and I'm not a father yet.
I would say a Mom with a great sense of humor tops that for sure.... Analytical skills are way more common than a true sense of humor.
Your parents are awesome Mike, Your mom has a great sense of humor. My mom used to watch Dirty Jobs often, but would refer to the show as "Dirty Mike". That's as funny as Mike's story....
Mike, your parents need to have their own sitcom. I can picture an elderly couple's banter on a weekly time slot at 8! I'm sure they'd be a huge success. Love it!
their sit com needs to be on at 7pm. Be realistic!

Mike, thanks for the terrific laughs. Watched it twice, laughed till I was crying in laughter both times
Mike, you remind me very much of the late Paul Harvey, have you ever thought of doing something like, "The Rest of the Story"?
Thanks for the show.
Check out his "The Way I Heard It With Mike Rowe" stories
I still miss Paul Harvey! Along with Wolfman Jack.....
