I was given this drug in the ER for a migraine and it was the worst day of my life…. It put me into a severe panic attack and I’ve never had a panic attack before…I never want to experience anything like that again….they calmed me down with Ativan iv and that still didn’t work completely… it didn’t wear off completely for 12 hours…

I had to go to the ER bc I had the worst migraine due to Covid and they gave me compazine thru the IV. I started to have the worst feeling ever and I was tripping out and they didn’t do anything to help me so I told them to discharge me. They told me to go home and sleep it off. After 3-4 hours being at home trying to relax and it still didn’t go away, so I went back to tell them all my side effects and they just looked at me like I was crazy. They told me there’s nothing they could do bc I told them to discharge me. It took more than 10 hours for the side effects to go away but it felt like forever. Worst experience of my life. I literally felt like I wanted to die.

Similar to many of you, I was given this drug to treat a protracted migraine at the ER (as part of a cocktail including Toradol and Benadryl). Within seconds I started shaking uncontrollably and my anxiety peaked. I felt like I was losing my mind and literally going crazy. It was the most traumatic, miserable experience of my life. Moreover, 6 weeks later I still feel terrible. I've developed chest pain and shortness of breath that is only relieved w/ something like Xanax or Temazapam. Curious if other people have this type of prolonged lingering reaction to Compazine!

Although I have not tried medication from any doctors (I refuse to after what I was given in the ER) I have tried Anxiety Free Tea from a company called cerebral I believe *that helped a lot the first few months as the symptoms were awful... I still have shortness of breath ,chest pain.. In the evening I a sensitive to sounds when trying to sleep, I use to sleep through earthquakes but now If someone drops something or my kids are playing video games it literally jump scares me out of bed ...

Yes, very similar experience with this drug. I was also given a cocktail when in the hospital, and I felt like I was going to die. Heart rate went from 60 to 170 in less than a minute followed by full body convulsions. It was absolutely terrifying. That was 6 weeks ago and I’m still not normal.

Horrible for me, & I guess I'm pretty lucky in comparison to some of the other people commenting here!
I was given this med for dizziness since Meclizine failed. The 1st night...I had the most HORRIFIC, VIOLENT, & GROTESTEQUE nightmare ever, & I've seen a TON of "things" in my dreams~okay!
I waited 5 days before I dared take anymore, especially because just the one night dose that I'd taken (RX is for 3x's a day)...caused me to sleep so hardcore (11hrs), & I had the worst headache for a few days!
The 2nd time I took it, I only took a 1/2 pill=5mg. All that same crap happened again! & Screw these nightmares for real! Plus as much as I LOVE sleep...it's not a restful sleep by any means! It's like being heavily way too drugged, & then feeling like a damn zombie for at least a whole nother couple of days type of sleep.
I would hope that no one else, but especially schizophrenics would not get the horrific nightmares as a side effect too because many times, they go undermined, or not believed. Plus they already suffer enough with trying to figure out what's real, & what's not while awake. I wouldn't wish them to have more trauma brought into, or added to their sleep.

Is it possible Compazine would cause me to have the exact same meltdown /,wig out ,feel like I was on fire / felt like I couldn't control my muscle movements/ran out of the ER in a panic with my IV still in ) that Reglan made me have ? Reglan is listed as a drug allergy for me In my chart with restlessness listed as the adverse reaction. It is far more than restlessness but that's what someone entered in the system years ago . So was at ER for severe headache later diagnosed as bacterial sinusitis. ER Nurse said they're giving you Reglan with Benadryl. The Benadryl will counteract the restlessness.. I said Reglan ? And he said yes but the Benadryl will counteract the restlessness. Within minutes I was completely wigging out and begging the nurse that just came on shift for someone to counteract the Reglan . Resident came in and said you werent given Reglan. I told them the RN told me as he was putting it in that they're giving me Reglan with Benadryl. They ignored My pleading for something to counteract the Reglan
I took off. They stopped me to take my IV out and they let me drive home basically in a state of psychosis . They are now claiming they gave me compazine with Benadryl for nausea. They went back in and added later on after I left that patient complained of being nauseas during her ER stay. I never told them I was nauseas and I was already on Toradol and zofran .according to their notes they gave me zofran with Toradol and less than an hour later Compazine with Benadryl for nausea and I never said I was nauseas. I know they gave me Reglan ,but is it possible Compazine caused me to have the same exact adverse reaction Reglan did the only other time they put me on IV Reglan ? Doesn't seem like Compazine would cause this type of reaction
ER is denying they gave me Reglan and they will not upload the "medications you were given at the ER" part of my AVS on my online chart . They claim it's because I "eloped " but everything else is on the AVS including their inaccurate diagnosis of "facial pain "

I have a severe systemic reaction from compazine. All my muscles twisted and tensed, my jaw clenched, I thought I was choking and my tongue was out of control. I couldn’t talk. They said it was hysteria. I suffered like that for two or three days and then they decided to discharge me. By the end of it, my potassium levels dropped so far down that I was close to having a heart attack. That hospital discharged me I went home and then the next day I went to a different hospital and the RN there knew exactly what was going on right away. When I mentioned they had given me Compazine, and nothing else in the hospital. I was having an allergic reaction to Compazine. It was very traumatic and horrible experience. Especially being that the nurses did not believe my symptoms, even though I was clearly contorted from my muscles spazzing out so bad. Look up a video of severe dystonic reaction. That is what Compazine did to me. so your muscles have reactions from Compazine. Not only that, but it affected my ability to talk as well as do not leave me able to sleep at all for a week

I don't understand why hospitals give this crap out. I have a RN friend who had very bad side effects but she told me it's a chemical imbalance in our body from it and to try to as naturally as possible to cope and let it run its course.. She drank tea and ate almonds and drank water. I'm so sick of drinking water and I've been eating right and trying to workout but I still feel that anxious panicky feeling..My Dr is an idiot , she said Oh it's long gone out out your system and your just stressing thinking it's there ... Prior to this I was not stressed, depressed, anxious or anything in between,I'm usually a happy funny mother who recently moved to my dream home and the one trip to the ER now has me like a complete weirdo.... I hope you get well soon and back to your normal self as well... I feel a bit better knowing I'm not alone that there are people dealing with this crap also......
