Saracen Mamelukes are terrifying. A short range, quick unit that cavalry archers have more trouble kiting than normal knights, Mams can themselves kite and demolish knights, they kite infantry, they're melee damage and rip apart siege, and they can raid. Heck, the only unit they struggle against is fighting archers for cost, and even then, they have the manoeverability advantage, which is so valuable. One of the strongest single-unit "compositions", they'd be straight broken were it not for their high price tag.

I think Hindustanis and Gurjaras could be swapped, simply by asking what people want from their camels.
Gurjaras hyper focus on the camels' strengths, while Hindustanis make them into a more "all-round" unit. Very different roles from each other, which I think speaks to the strength of the designs of both civs that they can be so wildly different with the same unit.
Indeed, Gurjaras camel has some interesting things about it, for example it stomps Cataphracts, which normal camels cannot do, because extra bonus damage of Gurjaras overwhelms Cataphract anti bonus damage armor.
@@belisarian6429 exactly. They are also created faster, and can be massed earlier. Not to mention you can make them cheaper with Kshatriya.

Small thing not mentioned in the video or the comments (that I can see) about Hindustani camels. They actually chew through house walls and palisades pretty fast. So in early castle age you have a handful camels that are doing surprisingly more damage to building walls than you'd expect, adding to their well rounded nature.
Thanks for the video. I wish i seen it earlier. I played a set in TCC this morning and got destroyed in a all out camel battle, i was Berbers vs Gujaras 😂😂. Good to know for future tho

I actually run the test in a custom scenario. 30 vs 30, 20 vs 20 of post imp battle. Gurjara’s camel came on top of Hindustani in Camel-vs-Camel battle.
I just thought about this now, but one could argue that mallian camels are the beer camels in the game WHEN a fight is won. This is because all ther camels can't do much damage after they win fights, while mallian camels can do a bit more damage, taje house walls down and even take a tc down

Hmm,in some sense camels in castle age require too few techs to be utilized "primarily you only need bloodlones to fight knights with camels"
Armor helps but it is not more important than getting a few camels out as they rely on their base stats and bonus damage
And if spears or mons are added you don't get much out of any upgrades vs those.
Not saying we don't want blacksmith upgrades eventually, but saying chinese tech discount is not really affecting camel play as much as you would think

I'd put the gurjaras over hindustani. That camel beats every single thing on a horse. Even cataphracts. Even War elephants. Also the gurjaras have a more potent combo with the camel - best anti cav camel plus the best anti range unit in the shrivamsha (no CA can kite that). Only weakness left is infantry - for which there are chakrams.
Fun fact: FU CATA beat all camel units in equal resource fight.
Indeed. And Byz can combine Cata and Camels. Catas are basicly second late game bonus for Byz Camels.

@@Phshteve nah, they lose to most cavalries with equal resources-Knight line, Samurai, boyar, leitis, monaspa, coustillier, ratha(melee), mameluk. Even the Magyar Hussars are cost effective against catas.
It's weird that they win against the cavalry(camel) which is supposed to counter them.

i actually disagree with gurjaras Nr.2. There camels are insane in post imp but thats it, berbers and byzantines with theyre heavy discounts can outmass any other camel and cavalry civ in castle age in numbers and quiete often snowball the game from there before gurjaras and hindustanis get the imp techs. In TG situations with full 200 pop late gaem and setup trade the bonuses and full upgrades are more impactful bit in 1v1 i see berbers as Nr.3 and byz as Nr.2, just hindustani camels are another level of power

Saracens would be number one if mamelukes were easier to mass TBH. As mamelukes are the definition of all-purpose unit that has little to no hard counters.
Even camels aee not hard counter to mamelukes if mamelukes are a mass wuth micro.
I think scout should be separated from light cav just like camel scout should be separated from camel rider. Both should be of course only food cost units and be the fastest units in the game. Interesting fact is that once u upgrade scout to light cav it actually downgrade its speed. Similar situation happens when u upgrade cavalier to paladin because paladin attacks slower. And of course camel scout should be available for more than just gurjaras. It should depend whether civ has access to camels or not. Peace AOE fans. ✌🏻

Personally, Teuton Eagle Warriors are dope, even better than Chinese Eagle Warrior.
Camel in itself is weak. It is supposed to be used with siege and gunpowder untis. Camels are for protecting the vital gunpowder and siege units from Cavalry raid. So it is quite weird to talk about camels only without talking about the siege and gunpowders.
I disagree ranking Saracens, it has been YEARS since I have seen a Saracen camel, let alone a Mameluke.
Saracens are an archer civ and quite literally nothing else.
