Thanks for watching! I sailed with a chief engineer who worked on an engine with coil spring exhaust valves, it was a B&W I think. I hope to see one someday.
Hello, quite some years MAN made some generator packages, test ran them, dismantled them, shipped to GRAND CAYMAN POWER COMPANY where they were RESEMBLED and left running there, Not sure if it was a replacement, or NEW ADDITTIONAL ONE, but everything is diesel there, Also was told they recover the exhaust heat, to use sea water for the supply there, Otherwise it’s only rainfall there, for drinking water.🇫🇰🇫🇰🇩🇪🇩🇪🇺🇸🇺🇸
Wow good question. I don't remember the make of the start air compressors. We had to rebuild one but chances are they were Chinese clones, although they did perform satisfactory.
@@FixAndForget Thank you for the reply Asher. Thought I saw something familiar with the Hamworthies I sailed with. They had their first and second stage air coolers integrated in the casting of the cylinderhead which required some attention due to water leakages in way of the pipe plate to outside. The cylinder block casting was fitted out with a safety relief valve, in order to prevent damage to the frame in case a tube of an aircooler would fail. And a chain driven Jabsco coolingwaterpump. During sea passage we never ran them at the max. pressure of 30 bar. At sea compressor stop 25 barg, that safes a lot on valve maintenance. Only for manoeuvring we increased the cut-out pressure to 30 barg.
Thanks for watching! Kinda hard to get a picture of the ship while on it and underway. I snapped the picture in port a few months before making the video. Cheers!
Thanks for watching! This is one of the nicest engine rooms I have worked in, far better than the Sulzer in my other videos. American ships have very small crews and have to do more with less. However the engine room drastically improved in the 7 months I was onboard. There is a good chance that it is spotless by now!
FORTUNATTELLY the people of MAN purchased the B&W diésel engine, in all my life as chief engineer in american LPG tankers knew worst engines that MAN, to complicates and bads
Thanks for watching! MAN has made many different marine engines for many many years. They also bought Burmeister & Wain which was one of the biggest slow speed engine manufacturers.
Did you see the Das Boot movie. The subs used MAN diesels. There is another company with B&W name, Bowers & Wilkins, British loudspeaker manufacturer, often used in studios.
@@klaasbloem Its seems to be a peculiarly american thing. They flags from flag-posts in front of their house also. Maybe they will wake up one day and forget what country they are in? Who knows . . .
Loved the reference to the size of the cylinder liner 😂
Thank you! I thought it would be funny 😆
Nice Little Crosshead Engine .
Good simple design but advanced enough to allow for automation & unmanned engine room.
...such power at low revs is mind boggelling but real brute ‘stuff’!
I have to agree. Thanks for watching!
Yeah! MAN Two-Stroke-Power!
Thanks for watching!
Glad to see something new!!
Thank you, it's been a while!
LOVE OUR FLAG
Thanks for watching!
Yıllar önce gemilerde çalıştım.Ana makinelerin sesi o kadar güzel ki sanki seninle konuşuyor.Bu gemi hala çalışıyor mu?
Could almost have been an engine room from 1958, except for the hydraulic exhaust valves.

What's the torque number? Like a million lbs/ft?
Pretty big. Haha thanks for watching

Nice little engine.
The starting air compressors look like Hamworthy clones?
I agree, it has done well so far. Thanks for watching!

The ship was seen tied to the dock. Then the views of the engine are full speed?

Ever heard of " Before and After " ?
This engine should be spotless, shiny, clean it up.

I've had the same experience with the smaller MAN engines in recreational marine applications. Thanks for watching!
hi i thought M.A.N only made truck and bus engines

Haha my reaction too. Thanks for watching!
What are those us flags good for inside an engine room??
Thanks for watching! The flags help give the crew a sense of home during extended tours thousands of miles away from home.
@@FixAndForget I used pictures of my girlfriend and family for that purpose, strange world.....
@@klaasbloem well not strange to me or the countless other sailors I've worked with. Different world for sure.
