A small example of his massive influence: In Argentina, 34 years after Reagan's victory, a candidate won the presidency by repeating the same postulates as a mantra (in campaign and during his government). Needless to say, he failed miserably. However, the majority of the Argentine "middle class", in fact, still agrees with many (if not all) of these ideas.
I love your presidential videos because they teach me an overview of what I did not live through. Its usually very interesting and I come away feeling as if I honestly learned something. Its really sad to see this video, since for the first time that I can tell, you've let your own bias rule. Things like "Reagan was the most transformative president ... but not for the better" 0:12 "Government is the problem. This passage will be taken as dogma for the GOP" 0:50 "Like many such children, he learned to live in the denial of reality" 1:37 "Facts are stubborn things, so Reagan simply ignored them" 6:15 "Another example of Reagans Outlandish thinking" 9:57 These things are fully opinion based, and essentially saying that Reagan, and the future of the GOP are morons. Which is just unfair. While this taught me a lot about Reagan, I feel like I can no longer trust it as a piece of education. You belittle Reagan and the GOP countless times in this video, someone who at least half the American population thinks was a great president. They would disagree with many things you said here, since topics like economics and foreign relations are not as cut and dry as you make it out to be. With that being said, Im really worried about your future President videos. Frankly, theyre the reason I keep coming back, and it seems like as you go on, you'll keep belittling republican presidents because of your viewpoint. I know its hard to do, but these presidents are so recent, and its not fair to inject your perspective on something as divisive, complex, and beloved to Americans everywhere. I hope you'll read this and understand why this video got its dislikes. Youre not upsetting angry republicans who always want to hear praise about their party, youre giving us a tangle of your perspective and facts, and feeding it to us like they are simply facts under the guise of education. It seems pretty irresponsible to me to be so negative against someone who is such a complicated mesh of good and bad. I really expected better of someone so engrossed with educating and helping people. This is a sad day for people expecting a fair and middling look at a president ranked as in the top 20 presidents by all major polling stations.
Yeah, he isn’t even trying to hide his bias. Reagan wasn’t perfect, but 9/10 of the Democrats that I know think he was great for the economy. Even though I am conservative, I still try to give Democrats credit where it is due. I just hate that someone as smart as prof Dave could be so lulled into the bias of the current age.
Just because a president is well liked doesn’t mean they were good. Reagan’s union busting and supply side economics have had horrible effects on inequality and workplace democracy

Bush: Foreign Affairs and Deals (1989-1993) Bill Clinton: A Scandal in the White House (1993-2001) George W. Bush: The War on Terror (2001-2009) Barack Obama: First African-American President (2009-2017) Donald Trump: Make America Great Again (2017-2021)
Joseph Biden: A Return to Normality (2021-202?) I think it be a good title for the current president as Trump was a populist and Biden is more establishment.

Many African-Americans who were descendants of slaves have at least one white male on their family tree due to the unfortunate fact that slavers would rape their slaves. It's genuinely haunting how well the video gets into the pig-headed awfulness and villainy of Reagan, and it's without even mentioning his actual worst scandal: the handling of the HIV crisis, where it became unofficial government policy for it to "solve" the country's "gay crisis". Millions of Reagan's fellow Americans got sick or killed as a direct result of that man's homophobia. Just a doublecheck here, but what was Reagan's approval ratings from Democrats and Republicans during his term? I seem to remember that a large portion of the populous supported him. I mean, it's nice to look back on 30 years of history and make 20/20 hindsight comments, but back when I grew up (as a young Democrat), things are recalled quite a bit differently than you portray.
His approval rating is irrelevant to what he did or didn't achieve. History is always going to be viewed in hindsight because it's, well, history. What you recall is what the media you were listening to told you at the time. History however lets you look at the long term effects after the fact, rather than the marketing at the time.

American life improved dramatically under President Reagan. He left the country freer and more prosperous than he found it, and made the world a freer and safer place. Here I quote Paul Greenberg in Bill Clinton's hometown newspaper, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 10/31/1994, p. 4B: *_"To quote the Urban Institute, which is scarcely a pro-Republican outfit, in the 1980s 'on average, the rich got a little richer and the poor got much richer... This pattern may be surprising to the general public, which has been led to believe that the poor were literally getting poorer over the past decade or two, and the incomes of the rich were skyrocketing. This is simply not true.'"_*
@@ncdave4life This is what I thought, i wasn't alive but by all accounts i've heard is that the general populus of poor and middle class had more money in their pockets.
@@kingoffire9373 The problems with reaganomics was never about short-term effects (even though it wasn't as clear-cut as you seem to have heard. Production workers on average kept seeing their salaries decline in the Reagan years, for example). But lower the tax rate for everyone and the only immediate difference you'll notice is that come next tax season people have a bit more money, and that has positive short-term knock-on effects. Sure. But it took a lot longer to notice negative consequences directly following those policies: increased income gap, reduced economic mobility and ballooning national debt (yeah, conservatives don't like to talk about this one, but Reagan tripled the national debt and reversed a decades-long trend of having it shrink in relation to gdp). Ultimately the core principle of Reaganomics that enriching the richest eventually enriched the poorest never delivered on the second half, and anybody trying to sell you that line 30 years down the line is either misinformed or disingenuous.
The number of angry comments on this video compared to previous ones is a stark example of how Reagan's administration is the point at which American Hero worship started to get out of control among conservatives. Looking forward to the Trump video....

Are we not gonna talk about how he ignored the aids crisis and how much of a disappointment the "just say no" thing was or the theory that he put crack in low-income black neighborhoods to fund an illegal was. Where's all that!?
While it is true that wages have stagnated for middle and lower income levels, there is no proof that Reagan’s policies are the cause as this video asserts. I am old enough to remember those years of the Carter presidency, when high taxes, and excessive government regulation strangled the economy, and, in Carter’s words, caused a general “malaise.” Those were the days of stagflation, where we had high inflation and unemployment. Reagan invigorated the economy and caused job creation that was the envy of the world. After Reagan, a number of factors have emerged that are more plausible explanations for the plight of the middle class. The development of the internet and a knowledge based economy put a premium on education. With the internet, educated individuals had unprecedented broad, instantaneous impact, not just on the region they lived in, but the world. Their wages increased accordingly. Those who are less educated continued to have only local impact. Fairly or unfairly, their waves stagnated. The Chinese and others took notice of the economic success in the U.S., versus their own stagnated economies, and freed their economies. After years of isolation, they joined the world economy. Competition from China and other emerging economies was devastating to manufacturing and industry in this country, especially unionized industries that could not compete with the cheap labor. You can’t blame this on Reagan. It’s not like the U.S. was isolationist and then Reagan changed that; the U.S. has always been open for trade. Japan, for example, became a major player in the automotive market in the late ‘70’s, before Reagan took office. To say that Reagan devastated the middle class by lowering taxes, reducing repressive government, and busting unions conveniently ignores the most important trends of our time. If anything, Reagan deserves credit for keeping the economy strong in spite of overseas competition, and ending the Cold War.

I do really appreciate your efforts and look forward to future installments of this series. So thanks will continue to follow, watch a (and hopefully) be able to give you continued financial support!! Good luck and thanks again!
Reaganomics is a mental illness
Thank you history jesus!
I love your presidential videos because they teach me an overview of what I did not live through. Its usually very interesting and I come away feeling as if I honestly learned something. Its really sad to see this video, since for the first time that I can tell, you've let your own bias rule.
Things like "Reagan was the most transformative president ... but not for the better" 0:12
"Government is the problem. This passage will be taken as dogma for the GOP" 0:50
"Like many such children, he learned to live in the denial of reality" 1:37
"Facts are stubborn things, so Reagan simply ignored them" 6:15
"Another example of Reagans Outlandish thinking" 9:57
These things are fully opinion based, and essentially saying that Reagan, and the future of the GOP are morons.
George H.W. Bush: Foreign Affairs and Deals (1989-1993)
Bill Clinton: A Scandal in the White House (1993-2001)
George W. Bush: The War on Terror (2001-2009)
Barack Obama: First African-American President (2009-2017)
Donald Trump: Make America Great Again (2017-2021)
Joseph Biden: A Return to Normality
(2021-202?)
I think it be a good title for the current president as Trump was a populist and Biden is more establishment.
@@theflaggedyoutuberii4311 and that matters why?
@@theflaggedyoutuberii4311 People of African descent living in the United States are African-Americans.
Which I suppose is much better than his 2020 successor, doing the exact same thing but for no reason instead of a bad one.

thank you Ronald Reagan for ending the cold war and soon Donald Trump history repeats people
Just a doublecheck here, but what was Reagan's approval ratings from Democrats and Republicans during his term? I seem to remember that a large portion of the populous supported him.
I mean, it's nice to look back on 30 years of history and make 20/20 hindsight comments, but back when I grew up (as a young Democrat), things are recalled quite a bit differently than you portray.
How much of that hindsight for the people outside were acessible information for the president at the time?
His approval rating is irrelevant to what he did or didn't achieve. History is always going to be viewed in hindsight because it's, well, history. What you recall is what the media you were listening to told you at the time. History however lets you look at the long term effects after the fact, rather than the marketing at the time.
@@dorkangel1076 doesn't mean we shouldn't take into account their perspective. Basically Reagan was Trump before Trump. He campaigned as a populist, would use racial dog whistles to motivate a segment of his base, policies were mixed at best but unlike Trump he was polished. I'm conservative but I didn't live through raegan, so I don't know anything first hand about how life was under his presidency.
*_"To quote the Urban Institute, which is scarcely a pro-Republican outfit, in the 1980s 'on average, the rich got a little richer and the poor got much richer... This pattern may be surprising to the general public, which has been led to believe that the poor were literally getting poorer over the past decade or two, and the incomes of the rich were skyrocketing. This is simply not true.'"_*
@@Jacxb16 That's what my mom says and she was poor but she had more money under his administration.
@@ncdave4life Why did median income go down under Reagan? Why did he send drugs to black neighborhoods as revealed by FBI documents?

I'm still wondering this Prof Dave guy hasn't deleted your comments yet. I'm sure he will delete them in a couple of days.
