      The way you present yourself heavily influences the way the animal perceives you. Predators aren't stupid, they don't risk fights with things that don't look like prey. Humans can abuse that.
      The safest thing would technically be to just not go in shark infested water, but once you're in that situation, what she's doing here is 100% the safest move. Panicking and turning away from the shark only convinces it that you're an easy meal.

      Still attacks are super rare and less people are killed each year by sharks, than by lightning.
      IF sharks would want us, like you said, they would kill thousands each year.

      She understands the risks, it's not a matter of if but when. All it takes is for on tiger shark who has had the worst luck trying to get food for the last week and it's a wrap, that redirection will do nothing from a shark whose actually hungry.

    I’ve been surfing my whole life & have come across a few sharks but this whole redirection is so wild to me lol we call them The Landlords for a reason. It doesn’t matter how you “redirect” them, if they show up to collect rent it’s either pay up or get evicted

      People are free to do as they wish. If something goes south, it goes south, but no human should be told they need to "stop" what they are doing unless it's directly harming others. Right to pursue happiness, and some things like skydiving, whitewater kayaking, dirt bike jumping, firefighting...some things come with risk. It's none of our business

She is swimming with a wild animal capable of killing her, she has been lucky so far but that luck can run out at anytime. I would say a herpetologist is at less risk as they are on land and have mobility. If a shark decides she is a threat she can't get away fast enough. This type of video is also dangerous because morons will think sharks are friendly and jump in to have a swim.
