TheThirdErnest you missed the best lyric of the whole song, my guy! Around 3:22 he says, “ I could pull this steering wheel...” It’s amazingly symbolic and dark and beautiful
This is what Tyler has to say about CAR RADIO Car Radio "This is way out in left field when it comes to song structure because there is no chorus, there’s no hook! The verses are talking about a true story of me being late to class, I was in college trying to do that whole thing because that’s what you’re meant to do I guess, I dropped out after that…..the point is, I was late to class and I forgot to lock my door and when I came back out everything had been gutted and stolen out my car. At the time financially I was not able to replace anything that was taken, the GPS, the radio, all my CD’s. When I get in the car my first reaction is to put the radio on and for a while I wasn’t able to do that and finding out that once I removed that piece of me I realised that sometimes music can act as a distraction and can get in the way of where your mind wants to go."
Thank you for posting the quote about the song origin. I always took the song literally and I'm glad to hear that is accurate. Put your cell phone down for a day and see where your mind goes when you aren't distracted with car radio music, TicToc vids, Snapchat filters and Instagram stories. Good luck with that. 2020 style meditation.
@@TheNewAmericanMedia I agree. Music, sm, apps are a distraction from the real world. Last year I went for trekking in the hills. And the place where I was staying had a power cut for almost 18 hours. I was watching a cricket match and didn't bother to even 'save the battery', my phone died. I became anxious that I was not able to use twitter etc. It's really scary how gravely we're dependent on such distractions to a point that it becomes unhealthy... Anyways I really hoped 2020 could be different but here I am, stuck in a lockdown.😅
I’m pretty late. I’m sorry. Just now got into this guy. But this is crazy. Cause most of the time, people need that distraction (music) to move on in life. To keep going. It’s like using it to keep going and seeing it as a distraction just contradict itself. You need music as a distraction to keep moving forward, but it’s a distraction from moving forward.
The whole thing with his mask is also explained in the “Guns for Hands” music video, but that end concert scene is also important because he’s showing himself surrounded by these people who are kind of looking at him, kind of not but he’s so consumed by his thoughts that he doesn’t even notice or ever turn around and look at them. Then at the very end when he’s alone again and the noise is gone, he takes off the mask and he still mimics shooting his brain. Like he’s basically saying there’s no way around acknowledging those demons. You can’t make them go away
I just started watching your 21P reacts and I really like how you actually go into explanation of how you take the lyrics. I think I'll be watching you for awhile dude.
I started watching those too, really neat Neil! Chuck Read, I don't usually spell it out that way, but I dont think it really matters how it's spelled out. Don't be one of those weirdos.
@@gehrig648 I mean their branding is technically twenty one pilots, twenty øne piløts, or tøp. Tyler also mentioned it in an interview once and said that haters could abbreviate 21p in a jokingly way. I don't see how correcting you made that person a weirdo lol
Yo I really dig how into this music you are and how you dig into the lyrics, really respectable brother, this music means the world to a whole bunch of people, hope you really enjoy whatever songs of theirs you listen to next. Also the "car radio" symbolizes how we use music to distract from our darkest thoughts but was also inspired by a real life event in which the radio was literally stolen from his car :)
Car Radio is one of my favorite TØP songs and I’ve listened to it thousands of times, so I wasn’t expecting to hear anything new from your breakdown, but WOW I did!! Great job man!
Sheryl Hockstra I just said the same thing. He does s great breakdown in a refreshing way. And yeah CR is tops for me heard it live last year and was even better in concert
Love your reaction and breakdown! Tyler wrote this after having his car radio stolen. I had a car where the radio broke and I went a long time with no music, unless I brought my iPod and headphones in the car. I thought a lot on those drives and sometimes it wasn’t good! You’re so right about TØP and NF, they love their fans and we love and support them!
You passed over and didn't even play the line that gets me the most "I could pull the steering wheel" in the first verse. That's a big part of anxiety, the intrusive thoughts. I can't tell you how many times I've been driving over a bridge and my brain says "you could just drive off now". Its my favorite part of this song because it makes me feel less alone in that feeling.
I've seen too many "reaction" channels that barely add anything to the original content. You do it right, I love your breakdown and general knowledge of music theory. Hope you get the attention you deserve
Basically Tyler got his car radio stolen out of his car when we was in college, so yes it might be a metaphor for life but it was a literal thing that happened
Ahhh!! This is my all time favorite twenty one pilots song!! Awesome video, but you missed the best lyric of the whole song around 3:22 if you had let it play just a couple seconds later he says, “I could pull this steering wheel...” The symbolism behind it is so deep and meaningful. I’m sad you missed it!! 😢
YOOOOOO! im new to this channel but i have not regretted hitting that subscribe button! you should check out "Kitchen Sink" it features Tyler's brother. I recommend watching the live version! Keep up that good work bro!
When this song started playing when I first saw them in concert, I almost started crying. I relate to this song a lot and being able to sing along with thousands of others that felt the same way truly made me happy

Yes yes yes!!!!! I’m so happy to see another Twenty One Pilots reaction!!! Glad you decided to go on this journey!! I’m promise it’s going to be the best thing ever!!! Twenty One Pilots music makes you think and opens up your eyes to many things and topics that should be more talked about!!! I can’t wait to see more!!! bro i know im three years late on this video just found your channel tonight and i could tell when he started screaming you felt that...i love that bout tyler he makes emotion so attainable, much love ,loving your vids
Nice, bruh. I love this song. This reaction is coming at the right time for me. We had to put our 13-year old pup down Sunday night. I’m a mess still. Sitting in silence has been the norm for the last two days. Thanks for the breakdown, @TheThirdErnest ❤️
1:32 “was I not just believing in the hype?...” I immediately think of the song The Hype by Twenty One Pilots where in the lyrics it’s says “I don’t believe the hype”
Man I’ve been waiting for this since I found your channel. Great job on what is one of my favorite songs of TOP and all music really. It was my first song I heard and was like wait this is different and I’ve been on s journey ever since. I love that he shot that final scene with hair in an empty arena. It gives you the feeling that the rest of the video was the inner workings of his mind.
Ok I'm in Now... subscribing, getting my life together. But honestly "where have you been for the last 9 yrs?" Ok you need to do react to anything live @the fox theatre, -Goner-Trees-- anything live like "the live room" so you can really "get" them more. Peace!
The way you go in depth on the lyrics, man that's something else, I find it hard to believe you don't have more subs. At least your one closer, I'll be checking out your vids for sure.
I absolutely loved watching your response to this, Especially how you really went into the metaphors of what this song means, it's a song that has meant alot to me. It's really nice to see a reaction video where you actually go into the meaning of the song, not just the sound. Loved it x
For me (my interpretation and taking from the song) the song was me and the radio and the music were life and happiness but they (the radio) were taken (depression & anxiety) and I was driving the car (my body) which was just empty and silent inside because there was no radio anymore. All that was left were the voices (anxiety & depression) in my head echoing around and the lack of radio meant that was all I could hear anymore.
The car radio comparison they did is like how you said, how you would feel without your phone, or TV or the internet. If someone steals your car radio, now you gotta go to work in silence, and just deal with your thoughts. In that sense for someone who has a hard time being in their own head, it's the same as if you let yourself just go at it and mentally tear yourself apart. That what I got from it
Man I love the way you break down the lyrics. Keep it up. I have been here since you were around 7k ish subs and from the first video I seen I knew I was going to stick around. You are the only youtuber that I have notifications on for.
It's crazy, you pause the song to share your thoughts about it. I pause you, because I am so impressed about your either knowledge about music and/or about life.

It would be way cool and so worth your time. 😁✌🏻 P.S. I can't believe no one went in on you for the '21P' thing. You have to look that up to get it. Lol.
The fact you actually took time to pause and reflect on the lyrics and decipher them into your own thoughts and came to a conclusion of what the meaning of the song is, thats pretty awesome. A lot of other reactors just listen and jam, which is ok, a lot of requests are bangers and are meant to be through other peoples ears. I dont think there are many who take the time to understand the lyrics as much as you did. Sub'd
