No matter what strain of Arabians your're into: Egyptian, Polish or Russian, etc. Make sure their 1) conformation, 2) movement, 4) character and 5) soundness (health) are or will be all *on point* for future breeding and/ or future events like Halter show, Endurance, Hunter, etc. Correct training and having a keen eye is important. Arabians are within themselves very flexible thanks to years of defining and sculpting, it's you as a becoming- successful- hobbyist to make them shine and put things in motion. Don't breed for what NOW is in (temporary want), breed what the discipline is needing (long term need). Look at what and where your horses are lacking something, have lacked something before, study your over time improvements made (see above five points) and stick to your aim- what you believe in.

Or don’t change something that has been perfectly successful for thousands of years? Your AIM as a breeder is to keep them as pure as they were?

    1) don't breed horses with extreme "exotic" features that make them less healthy, less sound, and less functional as a riding animal. If your horse has such an extreme seahorse face that it has dental problems, breathing problems, and can't be bitted easily, then your breeding program sucks (and your horse looks ugly and deformed and does not resemble the horses in old photos of actual Bedouins' horses). 2) don't breed animals with club feet, upright shoulders, sickle hocks, or offset knees. 3) arabians should be able to walk, trot, and canter. If your horse has a pogo stick canter, then your slow motion trot sales video isn't good enough. 4) halter showing is great for young 2 year olds to get them off the farm and used to handling. But halter showing should not be the permanent career for a 10 year old horse, even if that was once an option during the 80's tax-shelter era that the AHA doesn't like to talk about. Arabians are riding horses. If your horse wasn't proven to be trainable and to remain sound in any riding discipline, then don't breed it. 5) if you wouldn't breed a mare/stallion of that conformation if it were a bay, then you shouldn't breed it just because you can get a HA that is a pinto/palomino/black. 6) arabians are not supposed to be 16 hands. Just like a belgian draft is not supposed to be 13 hands.

      IMO
Many Arabian so called breeders have ruined the Arabian breed in many ways, I've owned Arabians for many many years, stop breeding Arabians to have a head of a Sea horse!
Where are the 14.3 hh Arabians? It's ridiculous!

I’d like to say, thank you. Very beautiful to see someone know that the “dished face” is not healthy. I’m arguing on a different comment section because this person isn’t willing to admit their breeding program is abusive (big dished faces)

    • @hhlagen
      @hhlagen 11 месяцев назад +2

Agree with you on the seahorse faces. It’s not natural ; look at the foundation stock. Why they are gelding stallions under 15 hands is ridiculous. The temperament is so important. They are people horses, working and versatile. A halter horse should be able to perform under saddle.

Before breeding do your research and make sure you go back 5 generations not two
    Know your horses before breeding
Study everything dont breed just because you can
It cost just as much to feed a bad one as it does a great one .

I just wish the breeders and show people would get back to the original type of Arabian. I really dislike what I see in the park horse class. It’s as though all of the onlookers and the participants of the class have totally forgotten what Arabians used to look like Galloping across the desert. These horses never had their tails dragging on the ground, and they never looked like saddlebred horses. Now they are more increasingly artificial looking. It’s so sad. Get back to the real Desert Arab with their natural gaits and soundness!

Our mare out jumped warmbloods, out ran thoroughbreds, she out smarted and out preformed any horse in a show or dressage ring? Arabs, the old school, traditional ones, are multitasking? They can literally do anything you ask and with passion loyalty determination grace and skill, they are incredible the pure original arabs, to know one is to love one, with it comes that passion to keep it pure and proper, no inbreeding, no change, they are perfect just the way they are x ours died at 38 surround by everyone she loved, she didn’t die of old age? Cancer got her! Arabs, the old old bred ones live so long!! 20 for an Arab is an insult to the breeding, most live well into the 30’s and our was still ridden in her 30’s by our children? That is normal? The new breeding is not x

11:39 Nope! A great breeding horse should be a great Show horse (confirmation & discipline) and a great riding horse (character, responsiveness, endurance & discipline). Otherwise, why would you even want them in your breeding program as a foundation - in this day and age?? They need to be the Whole Package.

When I began, EVERY ARABIAN was EXPECTED to be versatile. Breed for the solid, entire package. The identical bloodlines led to horses in Hunter/Jumper, trail, competitive trail, halter, reining, English Pleasure (saddle and hunt) depending on what discipline the new owner felt like going after. We showed in halter and performance at the same time. (Breeder/owner since age 16)

Mark Wharton + Lolly Ames = A+. Other IMPORTANT aspects, Arabian DISPOSITION traditionally IS NOT snort and blow. They thrive on problem solving, relationship between horse/rider/handler, and related challenges. I've been "saved" physically and mentally from potential death by the horse I had under me at the time.
Find old GLADYS BROWN EDWARDS material, Understanding and Training Horses by A James Ricci, etc. Time tested, sensible, knowledgable references that WORK.

0:37 This Arabian and any horse should not be doing this for SHAME on this video showcasing a Arabian with STACKS on it's hooves. They are not 'Trained' they are abused. they cut around the horses hooves and put acid on them to make them kick into the air, big lick with wraps or shoe's involved is abusive and the only kind that is not is when a Tennessee walking horse is used WITHOUT ANYTHING BUT IT'S NATRUAL GAIT!
