Watch this video for two techniques to help you start singing in your whistle register.
If you're unsure what the whistle register is, the simplest way of thinking about it, is it produces incredibly high notes.
Think Mariah Carey. Or to go back to one of the originators of the technique, Minnie Riperton.

In whistle voice the vibrating portion of our chords gets shorter, but in other parts of our vocal range as we go higher, yes the chords thin in inferior/superior depth and width but the anterior/posterior length gets longer. As we sing lower, the thickness of the chords increases, but they shorten in length. In addition to lengthening and shortening as we go higher and lower, the vocal chords also increase or decrease in tension in conjuction with the adjusting lengths. All this time they vibrate on their entire length. Then they're is a point when we get up to really high pitches where the Cricothyroid muscle cannot pull on the larynx any father and that's when the dampening process starts and we hit whistle voice. Dampening of the vibrating length does NOT occur in any other part of our vocal range other than whistle register.

I'm sorry, but vocal folds stretch longer on the higher notes. You said that they become shorter, that's not true. You can see it on every laryngoscopy video. It is true that vocal folds become thinner though. That one is right. But not shorter. But I really like your way of explaining the mix: "allow their vocal folds to become thinner". It's very helpful.

No. I whistle up to G7. I have vocal range G0 - G7. But the whistle goes exactly opposite to how high notes are done by vocal chords.

@@eihan3105 Maybe (I'm not sure how vocal folds behave during a whistle tone, because I couldn't find any laryngoscopy video with whistle notes. If you know this kind of footage, I would love to see it.), but Roger was explaining how vocal folds work while creating 'any kind of sound' (1:18) and then he said that on lower tones vocal folds are thicker and longer, and on higher notes - thinner and shorter. And it is not true. Maybe he was looking on this by some different angle (literally or figuratively), but if so, he should explain it.

@@eihan3105 That's because in true whistle register there should be no connection to your head voice (or any lower registers). Whistle is completely disconnected. So it sounds like you're doing it right. Can you post some examples?

In my limited understanding it's not about how long they stretch, it's about what length of them are together and vibrating, the rest of them being apart.

Responding to a few comments here: a coach is someone who can show you HOW to do things because they know what's the better way to do that. No they won't do the legwork for you, you still have to put in the hours/days/weeks of hard work to get to where the coach is pointing you at. Expecting this coach to do whistle voice for your amusement is like asking a running coach to do 100m in 10 seconds. No they won't do it, but they know how to and they know how to teach those that are capable and willing to learn - this is what a coach does.

    • @EarCandyPisces

Not at all. Bad analogy. It's like asking a track coach to show you how to posture your body, and maybe he'll even run a few meters to show you how the posture looks in action. It's like asking a math teacher to show you an example of how an equatuon is used with an example that's already solved showing scratchwork, or one that is solved right in front of you. He doesn't have to show us if he doesn't want to, but not doing so damn sure doesn't make it "better". You could have just let that stand.
