I saw their live back in 2014 in Germany, and hearing this song live is so freaking intense. well, "hearing" is an understatement, it's more like "feeling". The bass "punches" of the solo reverberated in my guts, its like nothing I've ever felt. Mad props to Trent and his genius.

I am absolutely astounded at how the crowd is not just moshing the fuck out of that.

The whole front half of the venue is box seats, which are pretty cramped, so it's difficult to do much more than stand politely.

This song keeps on sounding better and better live. The electronic programming in here is some of the sickest I've ever heard. Trent can even make electronic music so heavy that even Skrillex would shit his pants if he heard it.

GEntertainment I was there, the crowd was not calm, don't worry, the place went nuts. It was my first time hearing this specific song which was exciting because it was the only song in the set I hadn't heard and I think it's super dope to be introduced to your new favorite song in such a powerful performance. Cheers

GEntertainment Agreed. They looked calm as Hindu cows. I lost my ish just watching it. Hope to see it live one day.

megashillyshally I'm not trying to knock NIN and I was at this concert and also make this kind of music so I'm going to guess that during the electronic part that 90% is pre-recorded and that he is putting on a show for just this specific song. I'm 90% sure about that. Things he probably is controlling on stage is tempo, volume, maybe even having parts of the song triggered when he presses a key or muting some parts, maybe transposing the parts into a relative major or minor key. Here is my reasoning as to why it has to be pre-recorded to sound this impressive:
#1. It sounds very much like the album track. A live performance of an electronic song, especially for NIN who likes to change their tracks when performing live, requires a computer, multiple keyboards, a mouse, monitor and editing software. As in, think about how he initially recorded it and that is how one would have to perform it. I know he uses analog machines so he would need at least five synths, and drum machines, samplers, a MIDI controller and 1000 MIDI cables to do this live.
#2. It sounds "quantized" (AKA the notes hit too perfectly to have been performed live). Which makes it sound robotic.
#3. There are way too many different sounds playing to be performed by two people at once, & in sync
#4. The light show goes perfectly with the song indicating it's pre-recorded and not a live jam
#5. Trent Reznor would not allow the song to be performed if it wasn't perfect and the only way for this song to be played perfectly (at least the end) requires it to be recorded.
#6. In the normal song the electronic part is immediately after the harmonized "Destroyer" and it's not here which is likely not a coincidence. It probably has to do with timing a prerecorded song with it's non-prerecorded first two minutes
I think Trent Reznor is a genius and I was at this performance as well as every NIN performance in California in 2013-2014-2015. This was the only time I have seen this performed live and every concert I saw had a completely different Light show which is amazing (meaning, he is aware that the people going to one show are probably going to go to the next so each set is different and exciting).
