    It’s funny when people think this in cool new tech. I had a either a 1979 or 1980 toyota celica supra. It did all this almost 40 years ago. ( i owned it around 1990)Pretty much exactly the same. You set the temp in auto mode and the fan would blow high until the car cooled, and it would ramp down lower and lower as it approached setpoint. Used a motorized dampener to mix the hot and cold air as needed. Pretty much worked exactly the same as my 2018 camry does. Virtually the only difference i’ve noticed, is my 2018 has a slow start so you don’t get a blast of hot air in the summer. it starts slow and ramps up fan speed as the refrigerant gets circulating. Same in winter. If i turn the heat on in auto, it actually will do nothing for a couple minutes until the engine warms some avoiding blowing icy air on your feet. Other than that, it’s the same as 40 years ago

    In my opinion, auto climate control is one of the most underwhelming features in new cars. Yes, the idea of it is great. Pick a temp and let it do the rest. Unfortunately "the rest" might include a screaming vent fan as it furiously tries to reach your temp asap. Also, you don't have control over where the air enters the cabin. This is one automated feature I never use.

      If I remember correctly, putting certain cars in Eco mode makes the auto setting reduce the fan speed.

    • @onesujeet
      @onesujeet Год назад

      It does that to reach the set temperature faster

  • @shaobinguo5912
    @shaobinguo5912 7 лет назад +2

    For BMW (for example the one he used to demonstrate the ac system), at auto ac setting, you can set both the temperature and the fan speed. Cooper got the latter wrong.

    • @fargeeks
      @fargeeks 3 года назад

      Yep once it at Target temperature then the fan runs slower and slower to a lowest speed

  • @peppeddu
    @peppeddu 5 лет назад +1

    Also if you want to defog your windshield you can turn on the AC and set the temperature high. The AC makes the air dry and the heater make it warm which is perfect to quickly defog the windshield, no need to *(gross)* wipe it out by hand.

    People up here don't use recirculation. They'll be in rush hour behind a diesel duallie rolling coal and will refuse to recirc. It's so damn annoying.

      Jonas Reno I guess that if you drive a under powered car at city speed it could be about 1 mpg less (0.1 dollars per 25 miles), at highway speed it will be so miner, maybe 1 mile less for every 3 gallons (0.03 dollars per 100 miles), I'm just guessing but one way or another is worthless to not use the ac on a hot day

      So how would that use any gas.

    • @alvilla701
      @alvilla701 7 лет назад +2

      john M but the belt is turned by the motor, that is why new cars have electric steering instead of hydraulic steering, electric steering requires less energy

  • @6rimR3ap3r
    @6rimR3ap3r 7 лет назад +1

    What I really don't get is why some cars don't let you use all vents at the same time. Back when I had my Opel Astra H, you could choose to use all of them at once: windscreen, upper vents, lower vents. Now in both my Toyota Auris and my GT86 you can only combine 2 of 3. Upper and lower, windscreen and lower...

    • @fargeeks
      @fargeeks 3 года назад

      What i dont get is why on some modern cars the system will NOT allow you to run recirculating heat without the ac compressor running, you can only run straight heat without the AC compressor running if your using fresh air
      On a Toyota Corolla from the 90s you can run it anyway you want, as long as the fan work's

    • @niume7468
      @niume7468 3 года назад +1

      @@fargeeks because in winter if you use recirculation mode without ac the windows fog up quick. In my 99 Audi. If I have eco mode turned on(aka no ac compressor) and then turn on recirculation it automatically disables the eco mode.

      you'll notice you're getting tired because of the rising CO2 levels (from you breathing, not the car). Some cars switch back to outside air after a while, some don't. You can't even tell by the windows fogging up because the AC is king the moisture out of the air.
