In this video I’m experimenting with Owatrol to see how it can work for your cell activator in the blooms and swipe techniques. I hope this video is helpful and inspiring for you and you enjoy watching this half as much as I enjoyed creating it!
A lot of what you see being created on my channel when ready will end up in my Etsy store. Some pieces if they translate well to digital will also make it to my RedBubble, Society6 & Spring shops so if you see a design you like please check out my links below.👇🏻😊💜

Next is the oil component to add to the above Owatrol Base CA, choose ONE for each recipe, you don't add all three into it unless you want to lol!:
5 drops Owatrol Oil OR;
5 drops Minwax Prestain Conditoner oil based (or an equivalent you have there to experiment with) OR;

Thank you so much for watching and supporting my love of art, it truly means a lot! ❤️❤️❤️

In this experiment I was using products that I was easily able to get and was available to be. You may have access to more or other things I’m not able to try so I don’t know what else will or will not work, I encourage you take it to the next level and experiment with what I started here 🤗.
Since I just did these I don’t know about whether you will have to clean your art piece before finishing. I do know with the Minwax prestain I don’t clean my pieces before varnish or resin. With the Oil Owatrol I’m going to assume the same but I would test it yourself. With the silicone, it’s probably best to clean before varnish/resin or experiment and see what happens. So little is used, you may not have to but I don’t have a definitive answer for anything but the Minwax 🤗
Most importantly, have fun with this, I hope it was helpful and will spark some ideas in you to take this forward 💜💜
Jodi, that was so fun to watch. The depth of the swirl on the second bloom was so COOL! But oh man I love them all. Your experiments are so fun to watch thank you for sharing 🙂
You’re so welcome Cheryl 🤗 I’m really glad you enjoyed it. I’m still dying over that petal myself! 😃💜🌺
Oh, Oh, Oh, I just love experiment day!!! Thank you so much, Jody, for showing us all of the different ways in which to mix different cell activators. This is exactly why your channel is my absolute favourite for paint pouring!🥰🧡💥🧡👍🧡🌟
Aww you’re welcome Cheryl 🤗 I’m so glad I can help you on your art journey 💜💜
Jodie this was wonderful. Thank you for experimenting 😊 gives us more choices. Plus as always you've created some stunning pieces 😍
I’m so glad you enjoyed it Magdalene 🤗 thank you 💜
Jodie thankyou so much for doing this it was really interesting and the end results were fantastic. You are such a good teacher. I really want to be an artist just like you when I grow up. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Thank you Jodie for being here and sharing and being you. Namaste🙏 Love and Light 💜❤💜
Aww you’re welcome my friend 🤗 I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you 🥰🌺💜
Thank you Jodie for all you do for us, when my pantry runs out of that Aussie Floetrol I hope there is something to help us in Scandinavia, you are just so wonderful Thank you so much 🥰❤❤❤
You’re so welcome Lillan, I’m glad I’ve been able to help 🤗💜🌺
Jodie, that was super informative! You have been my inspiration from day one. One of your vids magically appeared in my feed back in October 2020 and what an adventure since! And your 3 testing colors have never failed me. You’re approachable, informative, inspiring and just a shining star. So, many thanks for sharing your time, knowledge and curiosity with us 👍
Oh my gosh thank you so much Mark for sticking with me that long, I truly appreciate that and that I’ve been able to help on your art journey! 🤗💜🤗
Epic!!! Thank you so much for doing this experiment! Now, when I get the room, I might be able to afford to do blooms...yippee! I'm very excited. I definitely would love to see a detailed video of your owatrol CA...that way I would have less of a chance of messing it up😋😊💜🧡💙💜🧡
You’re welcome Tera 🤗 I’m so glad it helped. I’ll get a mixing video up in the next few weeks, it won’t be on my normal day but I’ll get one up soon 💜
This was a crazy cool video and I love that you tried it in so many recipes all in all I have to say those silicone oil cells won in my eyes they were just so cool I had never considered owatrol as a cell activator but it's really neat to see what you can do with it! Every one of the swipes came out perfect loved this video great info great experiment and great work 🤗🥰🎨
Thank you my dear I’m glad you enjoyed it 🤗. I have to admit I enjoyed the silicone ones more than I thought I would haha! I used to fight with silicone back in the day so I discovered an aversion to it but this made me remember how cool it can actually be, I may play more with it I just hate having to clean my pieces if I use it 😂
@@ThePaintedDreamer you clean them anyhow before you resin so it's not gonna be much different but I was the same way I hated silicone oil because I either ended up with bare canvas spots or huge funky cells idk the 1 drop seemed to work perfectly I may try it with something else since I don't have owatrol but you know what a fan I am of testing videos I love trying new products and finding the best ways to use them
Such a fantastic video, my friend. Thanks, as always, for sharing your experiments. Big hugs. 🎶💞🎶
Aww I’m so glad you enjoyed it my friend and I hope you are well! Hugs and love to you!! 🥰🌺🥰
I love your experiments Jodie! They all turned out pretty cool 😎😎😎💕

Good on you missy. U r a master at this. So happy for your success. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥰🕊✌️🚙
Thank you so much my friend 🥰💜🌺
Wowza! These are are so pretty. Great fun watching, too. Wish they were on canvas so you could sell your experiments! (Can you imagine the reaction of a vinyl collector? 😱😱😱) 😄 You really did a ton of work just preparing for the other ton of work you did making this video. You must be exhausted. Great job, kid! Love and hugs! ❤🤗 Get some rest!😴
Experimenting can be a lot of work but I enjoy it when I’m able to and I’m so glad it helps others to be able to do this technique as well 🤗. I’m glad you enjoyed it my friend! I may have to do a fun piece with my left over CAs from this on canvas. Maybe I’ll do a more traditional swipe with it 😃💜🌺💜
What a great video! I have never heard of that product before today. All came out beautifully! Thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you Judy I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🤗💜🤗
In the US, they a
Have a penetrol that is made by Flood, that works well. It's is oil based like the owatrol oil. These are beautiful, and thank you for experimenting for us.
You’re welcome Donna, thank you! 🤗 I have two more experiments slated for this year and that is one of them 😉. After I saw Dave over at Left Brained Artist try it out I was like oh I so have to try that! 😃 I did initial tests and love it so we’ll see what comes of it 💜💜
Wonderful eye candy
Thank you Anne 🤗🌺
thank you for this experiment, im in the uk, very very useful
You’re welcome Kim 🤗 I’m so glad it helped! 💜
OH OH OH Jodie now I see that in the description, you mention everything in detail, dosages and so on. Thanks.
Jodie .. thank you for being the mad scientist to come up with these recipes. Amazing. Also thank you for using your favorite color palette so we could see these compared to your Aussie version.
Jodie thank you so much for the insight you gave us today. Even I, who know very little English, understood quite a few things. Well done and good evening!
You’re so welcome Lamprine 🤗 I’m so glad it was helpful for you! 💜💜
Omg being in the uk. I’ve watched so many videos which are American based, Canadian based, Australian based. I’ve only been able to get Owatrol [at a reasonable price] in uk this was so informative, especially about the owetrol oil. Minwax is impossible to get here. I am new to this and still learning but loving it Thank you
Good to know about the Minwax, thank you Carol 🤗 I’m so glad this helped and works out for you, you’re very welcome! 💜💜💜
Thank you for this video Jodie... I will definitely play with Owatrol now. 🤩🌹😘
You’re welcome Fiona 😃 give it a go, I’d love to see what you do with it! 🥰🌺💜
I love how you are always experimenting ❤ these came out Awesome! That petal is my all time favorite! Looks like a rose!
It totally does have a rose vibe to it doesn’t it 😃 🌹. Thank you Eileen! 💜
Absolutely rose vibe
I love all your modifications in this one!
Thank you for this video! I enjoyed watching your experiments ❤
You’re welcome Erika 🤗 I’m glad you enjoyed it 💜🌺
They’re all beautiful. You have the Midas touch.
Thank you so much Carolyn 🥰
Oh my goodness Jodi this is amazing I have been waiting to find out how to use Owatrol...you Just put the biggest smile on my face I'm going straight upstairs to my studio... Thank you so much for your experimental input You're a sweetheart 😘 Thank you for sharing
Oh I’m so glad Savannah 🤗 I hope it helps and works out well for you my dear, have fun! 💜💜
This is a wonderful video, all test pieces turned out so beautiful. Great job describing the ingredients and how much you used. 😍🥰🤩
I’m so glad it helped Christine 🤗 thank you! 💜💜
Hi Jody, I have been pouring paint for just months, and I must admit I tried to learn from your videos and for a very very beginner if I can understand all the terms and ingredients, but after rewatching you, you have become so much a great source to refer to, so all new people interested in learning this beautiful form of art watch Jody's videos you will soon get all the cool things you WILL want to know , thanks for all your technics and recipes, you have taught me alot
Aww wow Carrie 🤗, thank so much for saying that, that really means a lot and I’m so glad I’ve been able to help you on your fluid art journey 🥰
Such great helpful information on options other than AU floetrol. Such beautiful pieces! ❤
Thank you! 🤗 you know me and experimenting haha! I need a plan b and a plan c in case the AU disappears off the planet 🤪💜
I watched your video, thank you for all your research, saved us a shit load of money & time. I ordered some last night, 16 bucks is a deal. So thank you little lady, with a sweet funny smile & giggle. ❤
Aww thank you so much my friend 🤗 have fun with it! 💜💜
Hi Jodie. The colors were Wowsa. Thanks for this experiment. Awesome to know❤
Hi Lori 🤗 I’m glad you enjoyed it, thank you! 💜💜
Thank you so much for this video! They are all absolutely beautiful!
You’re welcome Denise 🤗 I’m so glad you enjoyed it 🌺💜
Super test! Thank you so much!
You’re so welcome, I’m glad it helped! 🤗🌺
I'll see if I can find something similar minwax here in Sweden, or that owatrol oil looked very promising 😛
I love experiment mode. You never know what your going to get. I think your recipe content is really great for people in this amazing form of art work. Wow, all six paintings are gorgeous. I really have a hard time choosing which one's my favorite. But #2 and 5 were extraordinary. All of the beautiful lacing...fantastic. Oh, but so were the others. You may have made a discovery in letting the cell activators set for a longer period of time. Great idea.
Question? How does the glue add to the painting? Maybe just thickens the mix? Anyways great job. Awesome experiment, Jodie. Thank you so much. I really needed a good paintings video.
p.s. More beauty when dry. Yea.
🤗 I’m so glad you enjoyed this experiment my friend, they really turned out so much better than I even imagined. I was testing them when I first mixed them up on the freezer paper as was like uh oh but letting the sit I swear magic happened haha! The glue acts as an acrylic binder would for paint and for the mixture itself so less chance of it breaking down. Thank you Lissanne! 💜💜
@@ThePaintedDreamer
Oh, that makes a lot of sense. You certainly don't want part of the paint separating while paintings or after. This video was wonderful, Jodie, and you are so welcome.
I would love a quick mixing video.... 🤩 Happy Xmas!!!
Happy Christmas to you Heather 🤗 I did make a follow up mixing video for this, it’s video 241, hope it helps! 💜💜
Thank you so so much for the Owatrol test! 🥰🤩😍
I´m living in Vienna / Austria / Europe and I´ve been trying to do some nice fluid paintings since 2 years.
But the result was ... you don´t want to know.
I didn´t get any cells, everything was washed out, although I watched thousends of youtube-videos.
So I knew, the technique was not the problem, it was the material.
I spent more than 2000 $ for paint, additives, and at least I was disappointed.
Why? Because we don´t get the brands in Europe that you use.
For example its not possible to buy untinted deep base.
If you find a shop the shipping costs are 100$ and more.
Another example - the Australian Floetrol - well I can order it for 120$ or more for 250 ml. 😞
Then I saw THIS video and it was live-changing!
I´m starting over again!
Here in Austria its 5 am, I was working all night and I couldn´t stop, because I was soooo happy with the results!
I did exactly what you told in your video#214 with the exact ratio and the result was amazing!
I got wonderful cells and lacing FOR THE FIRST TIME!
This attempt was with 1 drop of silicon. Now I will order the Minwax Pre-stain and start the next try.
I´m so happy with the experience, that you share with us!
Thanks a lot my dear friend!
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Oh Regina I’m so happy that this helped and worked out so well for you!! Have so much fun exploring 🥰🥰
Thank you Jodie. They all turned out nice. This technique is new to me. Did any of the oils leave an oily residue that needs to be removed before varnishing? Thank you.
They did not, there was no oily residue like when you use silicone
Hi Jody 😊...I really love love your work , you are so talented and your passion is showing through every piece. Once again a stunning piece of art. Many thanks for doing the Owatrol experiment as I am european I can get only this, very hard and so expensive to get US or Aussie Floetrol.I would like yo ask if the pillow paint needs to be water based interior wall paint or it can be any interior paint with additives for either Dutch Poor technique or for getting Cells/ Bloom techniques as in this tutorial? Or maybe Latex pillow paint is better ? Many thanks😊
Thanks Alex, I know this answer is now a year old but still applies, I've been away from RUclips for a long time. I only really do the blooms technique so I use white latex house paint. I know for other fluid art techniques other paints may be used for your "pillow" paint. It's used with the blooms because it is a bit stretchier and allows for a nice cushion for your other paints. That said you can certainly experiment to see what works best for you.
Thank you for this ,being in the uk it’s great to know we can use Uk products instead of Aussie FLOETROL which is so expensive to ship here
You’re welcome Clare 🤗 I’m so glad it helps 💜
Did you build your spinner or is it purchased?
Please give details.
I did not, the link to the spinner is below in the description box underneath the video if you want to check it out 🤗
WHOA....so are you saying you've done these blooms with no deep base/polycrylic or triple thick varathane? Like, I could do a bloom using Owatroel mixed with the paints? (but, did you add any oil/wood conditioner to that mixture as well?...will go to #241 and look to see if that addresses this) I'm like...this is a lifesaver. I moved down to Florida temporarily for the winter and EVERY box/bag got packed except my most important one! Aussie, Jo Sonja, Poly, trip varathane...grrrrr. This will be a life saver for me til I get back up north again some day to retrieve all of this! I THINK I'm hearing/seeing this right...I watched every word of this video (thankyou). Just ordered the 2.5 owatrol and minwax wood cond! Was wondering which you liked the best. I can only get owatrol oil in a large amount so I'd likely have to go with the wood pre-stain cond. However, which did you like and have you used it again since this video? I was trying to search it out on your channel. Love you work and you are greatly appreciated. ❤🎨❤
It did work well and was a fun experiment! 😃 it’s not the exact same as using like the Valspar/ Varathane and then Australian floetrol for CA but it can work really well. I also experimented with US floetrol the same way (a 4 video series under the experiments playlist) if you want to check that out too. If you are going the owatrol route I just mixed the colors with the owatrol (as my PM) and then the cell activator I really liked the one mixed with the Minwax, that one worked well for me or more in line with what I wanted to create. The owatrol oil I couldn’t find a small container either but if you can get the Minwax use that or maybe even experiment with the silicone also. Have fun Carol! 💜
Jodie❤,sometimes you have to answer stupid questions. I only have one. 😊but the answer to it is very important to me. in the description field below everything is written and everything is clear to me .... except for one. it concerns the color medium. what is the ratio of ovatrol to colored paints. if 1 teaspoon of colored paint .... then how much ovatrol is needed.?
There is no ratio it just depends what type of paint you are using (fluid, semi or tube) just add a little bit at a time and see how it goes. I do have mixing videos on this channel that may help you out to give you a visual. It's using different pouring mediums but the idea is the same.
Have a question: what is the tub? That you use to spin your art in to spread the pattern?
Sure, my spinner box is actually just a bunch of cardboard (from old boxes) I duct taped together and then I put a shower liner in it. I have a studio tour on my channel (last year around May I think) and I talk about it a little more before it became caked in paint 🤗
Owatrol is a rust inhibitor. Makes metal rust proof.
@@ThePaintedDreamer Merci beaucoup. Bonne soirée à vous
@@ThePaintedDreamer
I'm a newbie and wanted to ask what do you use for the pillow is it just white acrylic paint??
Read her description where she describes in detail the Pillow paint and all the rest...
Pillow is the PPG Multi-pro (white house paint), I showed it when we started painting so you can see the consistency but also check the end of the video there’s a picture of the can so you can see what it looks like and also like Gil said everything I use for each video will be listed in the description box below the video 🤗💜
Thanks Gil 🤗
@@ThePaintedDreamer thank you - I just wondered if I could use white acrylic paint or gesso??
@@PatsMindCircles Gesso is a primer for your substrates so you wouldn't want to use that, kind of like putting primer on your wall before you actually paint. It helps seal the substrate. You can use white acrylic paint but using it straight out of the tube wouldn't be fluid you would need to mix it with something in order to get it to a fluid consistency so it can carry your other fluid paints. With the techniques I do you want a lot of stretch and buoyancy to your pillow and house paint is perfect for that but you can certainly use something else just know it may act differently with your other paints than what you are wanting it to do :)
I would like to see mixing video
Thank you Brenda, noted 🤗 someone else asked for it too so I’ll get it out in the next few weeks probably on an off day than my normal schedule but I’ll get it out to you soon 💜
